The spice of life when it comes to fruit is all the different flavors, mangoes have many different flavors very similar to other types of fruits, I have 25 different mango trees but three of those are exactly the same and they are my favorite, but I love all mangoes, especially being that they all differ a little in flavor , PS. Have a nice weekend 👍
Best one is the one you’re currently eating ;) I have yet to try pina colada but it must be very good. Since it’s a seedling of Dot and dot has a very strong, rich flavor that is hard to describe. I enjoyed a fruit punch and Cac mango recently. Cheers
We are close to the ocean so i don’t have personal experience on the varieties that do well in rainy, humid areas but from my own research the ones that do well are Rapoza, Cac, Cat hua loc, Duncan, Dupuis Saigon, Frances Hargrave. They are not all top notch in taste but they have very good anthracnose resistance. Pina Colada doesn’t grow bushy like Carrie or with thick canopy like Lemon Zest so due to its growth pattern it hasn’t gotten anthracnose at our garden.
Tommy has lots of fibers, but the taste is nice. I’m surprised why in other countries Tommy is gaining so much popularity, probably because other colorful varieties are not as well known? Or maybe because of thick skin and long shelf life. Tommy can taste very good, i have a huge tree in my neighbors’ yard and they always share them with me knowing how much i like mangoes. If properly ripened off the tree, the taste is comparable to top tier varieties. The only difference is, Tommy has more fibers in the flesh and around the seed than the top tier varieties. If tree ripened, the taste deteriorates and tastes bad. Haven’t tried the other one, but judging by the parentage it has classic profile flavor.

Wow, you want Sensation so much that you even wrote it twice in your list 😁 but seriously, there are much better newer varieties, it’s an old Florida variety that has some fruit health issue, and a seedling of Haden. Look into newer varieties, watch tasting videos before buying something that is a bit obsolete. There are more advanced options available, with interesting complex taste and better health.
My top 5 will do nothing to you because our flavor requirements might be completely different. If you are looking for the sweetest mangoes, this taste profile isn’t the most popular now - here in Florida everyone is going for citrus flavored mangoes that contain a large bit of acidity and dont necessarily look good on the tree (we have a big pest problem so red and purple mangoes on the tree are not a good thing for us, we go for varieties that can be harvested almost green and don’t develop much color when ripe). Egyptian varieties are the sweetest ones in my experience, and they also have a good level of complexity of flavor. I really like Piña Colada, Coconut Cream, Ugly Betty, Taymour, E-4, O-15, White Pirie, Super Glenn because they have complex flavors. But that might not be your case, try to get your hands on the fruit of as many varieties as possible before buying trees…
You have more variety in life:) more complex flavor, more spark in the taste. If all mangoes just tasted like mangoes, there will be no point in breeding hundreds of new varieties. If you are ever in one of the places that breed special “designer” mango varieties, like Florida, do taste from the best growers, and let me know what you think!
Well, that is you. There are millions of people who enjoy new mango varieties, the proof is insane demand for all the newer top tier varieties here in Florida. As i said in my disclaimer to this video, and to every tasting video, tastes are individual, and there is no point arguing about them.
Thanks for the Video always enjoy your videos.

We tried Dot yesterday, and the flavor was very different. Is it confirmed that Dot is a parent of Pina colada?
Yes, according to Chris of truly tropical. She has a video about pina colada mango and in the description it states that it is a seedling of Dot.
I will ask the Zills next time i see them.
How well does Pina Colada do with anthracnose? Also, what mangoes do you suggest for anthracnose resistance? I am in a humid and rainy area.

So more like its parent Dot when fully ripe?
No Dot tasted a bit different, but yes both can get intensely deep taste. I didn’t know about its parentage.
