I made it to all 4 shows at the sphere. It was absolutely the most amazing sonic, musical experience I’ve ever had. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever heard or seen.
According to Treys guitar tech, they had thought of having the gear on stage, but due to the PA system in the Sphere, they moved everything under the stage. They were only going direct through the Trainwreck with the effects, etc… all the amps were enclosed and far away, so everything on stage was being heard through the in ear monitors. Trey and Mike are also standing on vibrating pads that help you feel the bass and other frequencies which is cool. What’s interesting is that Trey has carried this set up on his most recent TAB tour. We don’t see the famous carpet or amps. Just the new stand and his pedal board. Wondering what the 2024 Phish tour set up will be like. It’s nice seeing the gear… who knows.
First of all you need to check out the Bathtub Gin Sphere video, it really showcases the venue and has a great ensemble jam. Regarding the sound it was the best sounding room I've even been in. You could hear each instrument perfectly, it was like having really good over the ear headphones on. Run don't walk to catch a show there.
If you get a chance, watch their version of pillow jets during the run. It’s a really good tune, but what actually makes it stand out is the visuals are absolutely off the freaking charts.
