    Don’t be resentful to your chair. It’s such a lovely thing you’re doing by being supportive to the large community of people who have wheel chairs. I work in the medical field with the physically and mentally disabled and I was looking for guides on the best ways to clean chairs because I handle incontinence and sometimes people pee in their chairs and they get pretty unsanitary over time. The lack of professional guides is overwhelming. It’s great to get a guide from someone who uses a chair. Also great thing to do with the oils is I like to surface clean with them. I get a sponge and water in a bucket and wipe my surfaces down. Makes the whole house smell very safe and clean. The smell sticks a lot when diluted over large spaces. I struggle a lot with anxiety too, and I recommend breathing techniques. They help a lot and they’re free.

    Thanks for all your videos. Very helpful. I broke my femur so I am now using a wheelchair. One thing that sucks is going out and them having to brush the wheels out before going inside the apartment. I really want a hack for cleaning them faster.

    Happy Easter to you all, hope you have had a good weekend.
    My wet room is very close to my front door so if I’ve been out and my chair is really dirty then I wheel straight into my wet room, transfer to my shower seat then I can clean my chair. Very often I will remove the wheels and shower them then I have a special old towel I just use for drying my chair. Then all I have to do is wipe the frame and casters.
    I also use scissors to cut the hair that gets stuck around both casters and the pin which connects the wheels (I’m sure it has a technical term but for me it’s a pin).
    Other than that I only clean my chair when I look at it and feel ashamed.

      I forgot to say my hands get really dry and cracked too, so much so that sometimes they bleed. I try to remember my wheelchair gloves out but usually I forget until it’s too late. I’ve tried all sorts of stuff but will have to give the hemp cream from BS a go.

    I love opening up my ROHO cushion and a load of unknown dust and junk comes out🤯 my tires are wore like crazy but it feels better on my palms which are already have calluses on them. My main mess on my chair is dog hair, I have a long haired doge that her hair gets in the small wheels all the time! I learned the hard way when I went to the beach!!! Sand was EVERYWHERE!!! I regretted the colors I choose the first time I transferred in my car and scratched the hell out of the paint😂 So I haven’t tried the oils yet but I’ve been experimenting with weed, it seems to chill me out and helps with spasms as well! This video has put me in the mood to clean thank Gem🤙🏼

    I clean down my chair while sitting on the toilet, because I can’t get up off the floor, and my only other option is cleaning it while sitting in the seat of my van, so the toilet it is! Lol 😂 I use baby wipes too to wipe down the frame and everything and wash some of the fabric parts in the washing machine. The tiny scissors for the front wheel hair is a great idea! (I bet mainly only wheelchairs users understand that sentence lol)

    I carry a travel size pack of wet wipes in my handbag, along with a couple of ‘nappy/dog poo’ bags for cleaning on the go. Came in really handy when a man let his dog lift its leg on my wheels - I kid you not! I was so gobsmacked I couldn’t challenge him or ask him to fetch some wet paper towels to wash it off. I wonder what he’d say if I peed on his feet and rubbed his hands in it. I know it sounds a bit ‘so what’ but I was going to get it all over my hands and so would my husband when he lifts my chair to put it in the boot of the car.

      We have carpet. my husband loves vacuuming. and we brought a really high end dyson. which works really well. But the carpet has really had it. its so old and always looks dirty. we have a dog and child. xx

      @Chelle1214 6 лет назад

      Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard yes the carpet in the bedroom hides it a bit better. Understand the kid bit I'm not sure what's worse at tracking the mess in the my two boys or the chair. Dysons are fantastic I have had a big one for years and bought a stick Dyson a couple of years ago before my walking went. I can't use the big one anymore but can manage the stick for little bits at a time.

    Clean my wheels and chair with a wet cloth, dry with a dry cloth. Cloth part of chair will need something like a carpet cleaner and a brush. Finish off with a damp rag, let dry. No strong chemicals needed.

      I Would be very carful with your tires, just warm water, and maybe some baby shampoo, or gentile washing up liquid, but not too regularly. I Used anti bac wipes for the frame. This is just a recommendation, anything you use you should check with the manufacture first. xx

    Hello Gem, this video made me giggle, i wish we could tip my chair on its side to clean it LOL, Mine is Electric with specialised moulded seating so not possible. You finding the grass under your cushion reminded me of when hubby cleaned my chair recently and found out why my chair had been rattling, under my seating was a empty old print cartridge LOL.... I have a question for you, at our home we removed all our carpets to put vinyl down as my wheelchair just destroys carpet.... how do you keep your carpets so clean, especially when you have been out and come back with muddy wheels? I would love to have carpet again. But mud seams to be my nightmare LOL. TC Stacey K @ RawAbilityLife

    • @ecologist_to_be
      @ecologist_to_be 6 лет назад +2

      Raw Ability Life I know manual chairs you can get wheelchair slippers lol wish they did them for powerchairs I have mud coloured carpet so I can't see the mud as much. I couldn't afford wooden floors lol

    • @RawAbilityLife
      @RawAbilityLife 6 лет назад +1

      mine are not wooden as i couldn't afford them either i have that vinyl umm laminate stuff LOL the cheaper option i dont know which it is vinyl or laminated i just know it was the cheaper of the 2.. But i had to get a grant to help me fund putting them down. I was able to get this for other health reasons as well as the wheelchair being better on it than carpet. That is really cool about the wheelchair Slippers, YESSS they need to make them for electric wheelchairs to. My hubby is forever having to shower down my wheels LOL, Thank you Sarah for answering my question! Was just interested. As Carpet does look so much nicer!

    • @Wheelsnoheels
      @Wheelsnoheels  6 лет назад +1

      We don't. Our carpet is discussing!!! its so old, and just gross. Its got be be well over 17 years old, as it was already here when we moved in. (the lady who lived her was in a w/c too.) we have a dog and a young child. the beauty of having carpets you don't care about is, you don't have to worry about the dog, w/c, or kids spilling stuff. I would like to get wooden floor as carpet is so much harder to wheel on. But its all cost. :(

      I will send you some links to places you can apply for Grants to help you get the flooring, you may need to get note from Doc or OT to help get the grants... i am in mist of doing my form to transfer from DLA to PIP so if i forget to send you the links please please message me for them. I am awful forgetful LOL

    Be very careful what cleaner you put on or near your tyres. Many cleaning agents actually perish the rubber in the tyres and at a minimum will reduce the lifespan of your tyres. At worst they can cause a slow puncture or make a sudden deflation possible.

    • @Wheelsnoheels
      @Wheelsnoheels  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks for that. This spray is very weak but it’s worthing knowing 🤗

    • @ecologist_to_be
      @ecologist_to_be 6 лет назад +1

      The Real Mythril I think it more of an issue if you soak the wheels in a cleaner rather than a small spray and wiping it off

    • @TheRealMythril
      @TheRealMythril 6 лет назад +2

      Sarah Camley I was warned by my chair retailer and servicer, that many of the sprays that are available now all have some quantity of solvent in them and the majority of those solvents, even in small quantities can significantly reduce the lifespan of rubber tyres. Rubber is one of the most easily compromised materials that even leaving them in direct sunlight for extended periods of time will damage. It’s not an issue if you can afford to regularly change your tyres but when the rubber is exposed to even minor amounts of solvent it will increase the sheer rate on the tyres. I’m not trying to make you fearful, but it is something which can mean that your tyres may last you longer if you can avoid as much contact with those sorts of things as you can. It’s not always possible, such as when you end up wheeling over the deposit from a doggy who’s owner doesn’t pick up! But reducing exposure, reduces the rate at which you need to change your tyres. And at £50+ exc vat each, every little helps!

    • @Wheelsnoheels
      @Wheelsnoheels  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks it does indeed. Warm water, and maybe a tiny amount of baby shampoo? or just warm water if poss? xxx

    • @TheRealMythril
      @TheRealMythril 6 лет назад +2

      Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard even water and washing up liquid is a better option than any of the harsher cleaners but yes warm water and a simple soap like bubble bath, washing up liquid or baby shampoo is what was suggested to me for the tyres, if it’s safe for your body as a cleaner, it’s safe for your tyres. It’s so frustrating because you want to soak them in everything that will kill germs after rolling in something nasty, but it’s finding the happy medium. You can bet big 5 litre tubs of antibacterial hand wash from cash and carry type places and that’s what I use for the dog poo days!
