BTW go look at my new post!!! I finally fully restored my Western Cullen Hayes railroad crossing Bell polishing the aluminum!! and it shines like a mirror!
Most GS type 2s will sound like this if circumstances are right. So this GS Type 2 is basically a Type 3s smaller brother where as the Type 3 is the Type 2s bigger brother. (Please note: Type 3s are now manufactured by a company called Siemens, I do not condone getting one for small railways, more rather for bigger and actual crossings that get used.)
I do weekly inspections to ensure the safety of the warning devices I cover. I cannot prevent certain failures as that is just part of signals aging. The reported malfunctions have always been cleared within a few hours of original notice. I can’t do any better.
I did not bother filming them as it took 10 seconds to shift them back to their original position. I had to do other jobs before it got dark as well and so I did not spend time setting up a tripod for a 10 second clip.
Q #1) is there a timer thing inside of the relay case that decides how long it takes for a gate to drop? Q #2) how many volts would an average crossing take if it had, 4 incandescant lights, a gate mech and 3 incandescant gate lights? (Its ok if you can't answer)
Yes, I can easily answer these questions. Q #1) what accomplishes the slow delay for the gates is either a slow drop relay or a solid state board in the crossing controller. The slow drop relays range from 2.75 to 4 seconds slow drop time and you can use two slow drop relays to double the delay time. Q #2) The crossing components use 12 volts. The voltage does not change for how many lights you have or gate mechanisms but the amperage matters. You will need at least 20 amps to run a whole crossing signal (including incandescent lights). (Just a suggestion) I would not attempt to wire up a crossing signal if you don’t know how electricity works as it can easily damage the components you are trying to power up, if it is used incorrectly.
@@RailroadSignsandSignals Thank you. I currently don't own a crossing or any components, but there is a railroad crossing replacement going on in my area. When it comes to that I'm gonna try to get at least the gate mech. Edit: if you want to see the crossing it is on my video called CSX 3125 manifest or something like that.
i come across that before while i was drivin on the expressway & them damn things the fuckin gate would lower & raise & lower & raise & them lights flashin like hell & every damn thing else. i didnt know wtf to do. i said "motherfucker is there a fuckin train comin or not!?"
It widely depends on what the issue is. A malfunction could be replacing a blown out gate light to having to replace a whole railroad crossing signal. It is usually easy to fix but time consuming to fix issues as finding the issue often takes longer than fixing the issue.
You (the regular public) have no way of fixing a problem like this one as it requires to replace a specific part that has gone bad on the inside of the signal. It is always best to report a problem or emergency directly to the railroad associated with that crossing as seen on the blue info sign on the signal even if you think that you are able to fix it as chances are, the problem will reoccur after the next activation anyways.

The actual cause is still unknown until I check out the hold clear device coils. The electromagnet coils were not engaging with the steel plate so it was replaced with a new one.
What kind of gate motor is that? It's not a Western Cullen is it?
No. It is a Safetran.
@@RailroadSignsandSignals I kinda figured by the looks of it! Good work 👍
WCH is on the opposite side
What type of bell is that? (the signal with the malfunction)
A General Signals electronic bell.
the gates were just saying hi by waving back and forth lmao

I love that bell

i love the type 2 bell 😊
Did You Replace That Mini WRRS Mechanical Bell With An NEG E Bell?
It is a General Signals bell.
Was It A GS Type 1 E Bell
I am not quite sure.

Yes, it was realigned.

NEG-E Bell for the one close to the camera, and either a WCH or WRRS Mechanical bell for the other signal.
It sounds like the crossing is saying hello
yea
Railroad Gates always know when there's a train coming this railroad game is there a train there's not a trained wait there is a train
I miss electromechanical bells.😢
Won’t be seeing them for much longer on my signals. Eventually they will be phased out when I get enough replacement bells.
At least the crossing gates are working good weird malfunctioning crossing

Why is there an e-bell and leds?
That was what I had at the time when the signals were installed.
@@RailroadSignsandSignals didn’t you have a whole bunch of other bells or something?
I have a few that need to be restored. I have shown every bell I have in my videos already. The others are going to different signals.
At first the signal sounded kinda scary to me but then when it got fixed it was not that scary.

It is connected to the same relay as the lights. If the lights come on, so does the bell.
