  • I was sent a pair of Earth Runner sandals to review.
I do believe walking barefoot and developing this sensitivity is one of the best things we can do for our health, and so I have gone through many different styles of minimalist footwear.
Of course the best solution is to be barefoot as often as possible, but sometimes it's good to have a bit of protection for the foot.
I am wearing the Circadian Model in a US mens size 10, and I was mistaken about the price(ranges from $70-$84).
I find the thickness of the sandal a good compromise between ground feel and puncture protection. I have taken then on the city and on the trail and they have held up well.
The lacing takes some tweaking to get right, but once you set it up they do fit quite well. I also think they look good when worn.
One last unique feature is the grounding plug and conductive lacing, as opposed to standard shoes that insulate.
Overall very high quality sandal; hand made in California. These are going to be top choice of footwear for the time being, until the weather gets a it colder.

I've worn these exact sandals everyday (almost exclusively) for about 1 year. I used them for walking and everyday wear for about half that time I'm primarily concrete and half the time rocky natural dirt. The first thing to wear down has been the traction on the soles and the copper stud has shaved off so now it has about half the diameter (the size of the rod of copper that goes through). I don't know how this affects the grounding capacity. The straps are fraying on the bottom of the sandal but look like they have a ways to go before they break. As for earthing benefits, over time the difference is certainly subtle and I don't notice it. I might notice it if I went back to normal shoes and then put these on again. Overall I still love them. The only thing I don't love is that they shed rubber and little nylon threads out into the wilderness. Also the clasp hurts when you wear them and sit cross legged on the ground, but the rest of the time they are reliable and convenient. I'm mostly looking up reviews on these shoes because I'm wondering if there is something better out there I'm missing. Grass is always greener, right?

yeah makes sense as to how they would wear over time.
I like them a lot as sandals for doing stuff like hiking. for general purpose lounging sandals I prefer the xero shoes genesis because they are easy to slip on and off, but they don't ground you

Yes, was wondering about how the nylon straps held up on the bottom of the shoe because it seems they would wear quickly because they are in direct contact with the ground while walking

As someone who is not remotely sceptical of the benefits of grounding I'd be curious to know if you've noticed any effects when walking in these when compared to other non-grounding shoes. Is there a similarity between wearing these and barefoot walking? Or is the effect is more subtle? Thanks for your video :-)

In general I try to walk barefoot as much as possible, so I don't notice a whole lot of difference.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking into them because my pair of Unshoes are dying.
What do you think about the grounding capacity with the copper stud? Is it real? As in, has it been tested to actually ground you?

I've seen videos where it has been tested, but I have not tested itt personally

I just received a pair that I ordered. I am not happy with the craftsmanship or the engineering design of the sandal. I thought the copper plug would be a thick plug that could wear down gradually and still retain its durability and especially the connection to ground. Instead, the copper is a thin disc that seems like it will bend and wear down rather quickly and puts in question whether the grounding purpose of the sandal will always be met. The copper disc seems to be less than half the the width of a penny and it might be 1/4th of the width.
The copper plug is a composite assembly of some silvery metal ring that is mechanically attached to the vibram sole and a black material between it and the copper disc that might be insulation or conductive, one would hope conductive. On both of my sandals, the black material is only half installed, the lack of material exposes a gap between the copper disc and the metal grommet underneath. I can see that copper lip catching on stuff and especially wearing down quickly.
On one sandal, that whole copper disc pad is even protruding about a quarter inch beyond the vibram sole, whereas the other sandal seems flush. I worry that the protruding plug will be even more prone to wear and dysfunction; as well as an impediment to the comfort and ergonomics of wearing the sandal itself.
The nylon anchor to the sole near the heel is flush on one side, but the other reaches around the edge of the sandal and creates a situation where the nylon and metallic thread can wear faster' as well as make an uneven and variable surface for your foot to contact the ground. Do we have to worry about how that unevenness will affect our knees and hips as we wear these sandals?
The stainless steal thread used in the nylon webbing does not seem to me like it would hold up well. It seems like it could break or wear and makes me wonder how long the grounding effect would be present in the strapping. I plan to return this pair that I received and I am not sure I would even try to reorder a replacement.

Most uncomfortable shoes I’ve worn in 15 years. Tried ever possible adjustment. ‘Massaged’ and ‘pinched’ the lace as they suggest. Am I alone here?

Nice review about this sandals. I'm thinking about getting a pair of these. I'm just wondering about how wide are they. I have big very very wide feet sz14 4 EEEE with fat wide toe. They don't make shoes wide enough for my feet and the only Footwear that I can wear is flip flops which gives me a lot of problems putting them on because my feet are wider than the flip flop straps. There are some days I cannot get my flip-flops On My Feet and I have to walk around barefooted👣 for the day. There's sometimes I have my flip flops on I take them off for a little bit and try to put them back on and I can't get them back on my feet. It is embarrassing when this happens around my friends. They get a real good laugh out of it but they really help me out cuz they understand my foot problem. It look like the sandals might work for me because the straps are not in the front area. Would you recommend these sandals for someone who has a very very wide foot. It really sucks having big wide feet like this. I wish I had normal feet like everybody else. They are some cool looking sandals.
