Interesting project. That ash had some nice shimmer on the top. Enjoyed the narration as you explained what you were doing. The groove around the outside is to hold the marbles that you remove from the field as you play the game. The game is played by having all but one hole with a marble, then removing marbles by having another marble jump over them (hard to explain, easy to see). It's like those peg games where you try to get down to one peg by jumping pegs over one another.
Not being a fan of repetitive efforts like marking out where to drill holes, I'd probably mark the hole locations with a laser and then drill where the laser marked the hole locations. If one had a CNC, it could put in the holes and maybe the outside groove, although the groove isn't a big deal to turn either.
