Munna Uppal - He sure was. Of all the shows that I've heard recorded on this tour, Boston is the absolute best show. Gilmour was on fire in every song.
Chris Thomas Yea I just found out. Snowy on bass and Roger on a black strat. I'm confused then. Who played the last solo? It's really amazing but doesn't sound like Gilmour. Could it be Roger or is it Gilmour? :0
With most bands it would be, but this band also did Dark Side, Meddle, The Wall, many others too. Animals stands on its own like all of the best Floyd albums.
My favorite 1977 recording of live Floyd and I've listened to them all. Love the tiny flub at 8:04 by David. The solos absolutely kill. Rogers screaming animal sounds. What an amazing concert it must have been to see. The build up at the end of Pigs, the climactic solo, the cheer at the release of thre inflatable pig...just incredible.
The "Animals " Tour was absolutely brilliant. Pink Floyd at one of their best stages in their career, SO agressive at the time got them the nickname " Punk Floyd ". Anyone that saw the shows will probably agree......However, " The Wall " live shows blew them away. I'm absolutely delighted I had the pleasure to see them live so often. Still got the Programmes, and Concert Tickets in fact........
I'd say 1977 was the peak of Pink Floyd. Every one of them was playing so tight - it's a goddamn sin that there are no official soundboard recordings of the In The Flesh tour of '77...or even a European leg would be awesome. Yes, The Wall was freakin' awesome, but I say they peaked in 1977 because by 1979 everybody fuckin' hated each other. At least we got The Wall and The Final Cut out of 'em before Roger bolted.
Animals is my favorite Floyd album, and this is my favorite cut from Animals. I wish, wish, wish I'd been alive to see them at the time. The last solo of the studio track is my favorite guitar solo of all time. Thanks for posting!
I know it's the most depressing thought! They have all the recordings from the soundboards too. There's hardly even any pictures from this period never mind any video footage either. While the Pink Floyd concerts in 88 and 94 were absolutely incredible they didn't make absolutely amazing live albums. This tour would remedy that no bother!
Most likely for technical reasons. Gilmour has often said that almost every show was flawed in some way or another, from mistakes by the band, to technical issues of both sound and the visuals to Waters losing it on the audience etc. Though I think Waters rants should be included in an official release. Nobody seems to know if any of these shows were officially recorded by the band, though some outside sources say all shows were recorded by the band. I find it strange that 'Animals', from studio outtakes to live performances etc., has never had any official boxed set or release, just endless bootlegs. Even 'You Gotta Be Crazy" (original version of 'Dogs') and 'Raving and Drooling' (original version of 'Sheep') ended up on the Immersion Edition of 'Wish You Were Here'.
@@dunkelstevenson4413 Plenty of other rare Floyd archive material has been released since then, like that box set that came in the little black van box, super rare cuts from 1965 - 1972. So why not a really album like Animals, with all the rare stuff like the Snowy White solo? One wonders why.
best Floyd live performance ever Gilmour just rips the guitar several times awesome i seen them July third 77 at Madison square garden it was good but nothing like Boston gardens also seen them Nov 1rst 87 at the orange bowl poured rain n cold but it was good comfortably numb was excellent check it out Miami soundboard Nov 1rst orange bowl awesome concert right here on you tube
DougZaga there is a copy on RUclips of both of the band and audience being balanced. Musically, I'd say the Montreal version is best. Gilmour is on fire. 100x more than the other Animals your shows. And those last 7 minutes is amazing! Mesmerizing !
SO27FR I'm uploading both sources to my Google Drive right now. Who Was Trained Not To Spit At The Fan and 1st Recorder. I'll link them to you when they are done. You can actually download them from there if you'd like or just listen to them. :)
=*reads description*= "The tour featured the famous character inflatables puppets, and also featured a pyrotechnic "waterfall" and one of the biggest and most elaborate stages to date, including umbrella-like canopies that would raise from the stage to protect the band from the elements." =*-__- why couldn't it be recorded?*=
Legally Arrested somewhere in the world there is footage of one of these shows. They have it for the wall and The Beatles rooftop concert but they won’t release them. No one knows why
Excellent performance by Waters! It honestly makes me wonder if it was playback...not that Rog isn't a great singer, he's fantastic, but he tends to have a very different voice live. Like how they made the song an extended jam track live, as with most of their long suites, but I wish they'd used the chorus section (the dominant 7th chord part) for something else than a continuation of that guitar solo. Like a drum-and-bass part, that would have been perfect. Anyway, great find, and hats off to Roger.
Spiritual Lyrical Miracle it's there on the record i think, but it's more subtle...not leveled at the same volume like they are here. But I agree, so good here!
Whereas Rick Wright's was not present on the album version, Rick's Moog solo works better than the voicebox and the organ solo at the end was something that the album version lacked. Animals I rarely listen to these days whereas live 1977 recordings saw the album BETTERED! Same for The Wall, Rick was on the album but live performances saw Rick's keyboards come alive. David Gilmour loved Animals but Rick Wright hated the album and said although he played well on it, he didn't like much of the music and also called it the start of Roger's ego trip.
I saw Floyd a couple of times in the after Waters years so I never saw them play this live. However I've seen the Brit Floyd play some stuff from Animals and when I heard those songs live I realized there's a LOT going on. I don't like some of Waters' lyrics on Animals but the music is really good..... complex and technical.
Apologies I missed that. I thought the Tele was used exclusively on Dogs. Didn't realise that the studio version of Sheep was the custom Tele too. That must be what gives that song such a heavy sound
17:35 - can someone explain what was happening at the time? Was that the moment the pig came across the audience? There are just zero footage of that tour...
Psanche delic naa sorry if you thought i was meaning it i hate him but i am a bigaas floyd fan probs like yourself, anyway who would post something like that for real on hear with all us floyd fans coz well just rip em out
Gilmour was feelin' it that night. Great tone, great solos. The jam in the last 7 minutes is so awesome.
I believe that was snowy white
Ulysses M. - Nope. Snowy was playing bass for this with Waters playing the rhythm guitar. Snowy only played lead guitar on "Pigs on the Wing"
+Chris Thomas (Xtreme55) You're a bit wrong, Snowy White played lead guitar with Gilmour in Dogs, same concert.
Roger sounds REALLY good in this show ... I always liked his live voice though, but this is very good... All of them are really killing it!
Who wouldn't love David's backing vocals and his amazing guitar solo?
Stone deaf people..
Underrated Floyd album.
Agreed. It's arguably their best album.
I can't help it... My favorite album is always the one I'm listening to at the time!
With most bands it would be, but this band also did Dark Side, Meddle, The Wall, many others too. Animals stands on its own like all of the best Floyd albums.
And their best one
Nathan Parsons I absolutely love this album!! It is so underrated, you had dark side, wish you were, animals, then the wall

Tom - A good friend of mine was at this show. Talks about it at least once a month on average over the last 40 + years

Couldn't have said it better if I tried.
Why isn't a live album from this period? What a gig!

Incredible...i think that song is incredible! And i'm sad that doesn't exsist an official live of animal's tour!!
Gilmour in fire, what a spetacular guitar solo!
This album must have been really difficult to play live, probably their most technical work.
Jonatan Olsén I would say the wall live has to be the most technically difficult album ever
Echoes probably wasnt very easy either.
Melker Sennelöv In fact it’s all pretty difficult, which is why they are them and I am me.
Atom heart mother that song is tricky live..
which makes it a shame theres no high quality audio of it actually being played live
How many people like me, want an Animals immersion/experience edition? I think many do here's hoping for 2013.
Sadly that's a no, and I feel after all this time it's unlikely to come
lol

well…we’re getting a reissue
The guitar work and keyboards along with Rogers vocals on Animals makes this their best work. Thank you!!!
20 minutes in space, eargasm.
Paul Lightman 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Damn, Pink Floyd also manages to step their songs to the next level in their concerts.
That ending, so fucking intense at 18:19
"I don't believe it... I don't believe it." How jealous I am.
Rick wright at the end is incredible
holy shit, this is a most powerful song i hve see....
urtado
So perfect.
13:50 - 14:30: intensity overload.
Best part: 13:45
I'd give anything for soundboard recordings of this show. Devastatingly aggressive.

Finally a version where poor Roger’s voice isn’t all cracked
Roger's brain was a beautiful thing....
+MrAitraining still is
Was? 😂
@@golfingcub02 yeah 'was'
now his brain full of shit, Like Politics, Supporting Dictators and more stupid stuff
He's still alive, you know...

Thank you, HanSixDsTemmEr
"I DON’T BELIEVE IT" - Witness of God
Fuckin pink Floyd!!! I don't know what I would do without this band in my life
best live version of this is montreal on july 6, 1977. this is amazing though
Ulysses M. Only if you like hearing the audience more than Pink Floyd!
DougZaga there is a copy on RUclips of both of the band and audience being balanced. Musically, I'd say the Montreal version is best. Gilmour is on fire. 100x more than the other Animals your shows. And those last 7 minutes is amazing! Mesmerizing !

+MarioMario753 he had an inconstant voice (even though i think he's a great fucking feeling singer), but I don't think that's a playback. He rocks!
Excellent performance by Pink Floyd
el pieno de Wright maravilloso
Saw them a week later at MSG!!!!
20 minuti di pelle d'oca.....!!!!
wow I'm amazed the Roger didn't meltdown here with all the fireworks
Oh trust me, his anger was building. Really makes The Beatles sound like jokes. Had to throw that in there.
GREAT! Thanks for sharing.
Is Beatifull
Why didn't they have the "charade you are" harmonies on the album? They're so good.
Spiritual Lyrical Miracle it's there on the record i think, but it's more subtle...not leveled at the same volume like they are here. But I agree, so good here!
It would be marvellous!
one of the few bands that in my opinion actually sound better live than they do on recording
7:25 OH YEAH

DougZaga that's a federal offense
CJ I hear ya. So mad I never saw them. She did late on let me go to MSG to see Zeppelin in 80 but sadly Bonzo passed.
And Doug - We all know much to well what happened to the 1977 Boston Garden Zeppelin shows.
I wish they put out a live concert dvd from this tour I wanna see a pig fly across the arena and blow up!
5:52 David Gilmour in his prime right here man
Yeah that following lick is one of the best I've ever heard him play. Insanely good!
3:50 summarizes Roger Waters's thoughts on Margaret Thatcher. XD
*Ahem* He used the Strat on Pigs. The Tele was Dogs and Sheep(album only).
gibbygano actually it's a strat on Sheep too
