- The full Drive & Sound test with the all new 2014/2015 Porsche Macan S Diesel powered by the VAG 3.0 TDI (258 hp, 580 Nm) mated to Porsche's 7-speed PDK. After driving the first few kilometers with then new Macan I was already impressed by how good it is. Three things that I observed right away where the perfect suspension (very agile, yet comfortable), an awesome steering giving the feel of a light sports car, and the quietness in the cabin. Of course I need to mention that this car was equipped with pretty much all possible options including Porsche's PASM incl. air suspension, that definitely is a new level for this class. Yes, you can feel the large 21 inch wheels here and there but from a comfort perspective there should be no reason at all to downgrade to smaller wheels. Engine-wise up to 150 km/h the car feels very powerful, with the performance that you would expect from a Porsche. Going up to 200 km/h you begin to feel that this is "just a 3.0 TDI" and the aerodynamics of this car (including those 295 mm tires) are starting to slow down the rush to top speed. Overall especially the torque of the Turbo suits this car very well, as you are easily able to overtake and the responsiveness of the engine is like a naturally aspirated engine when you are in Sport Plus mode. On the other hand the consumption is very fair since I never exceeded 10 liters/100 km, mostly having and 8.x on the clock while doing the video. PDK is awesome
I've had 12 older Porsche 911s, but that was 13 years ago. I just learned that the Macan Diesel is available with the PDK Transmission, this sounds extremely interesting. I never thought I would own another Porsche, but this may change things! I need to find a used one to Test Drive. I'll need some Towing capability however.
To be honest, with diesel engine isn't true PDK as with petrol engines, it's something like modified S-tronic from Audi

+GluboGrine Die "Sport"-Taste ist Standard. Für die "Sport Plus"-Taste braucht man das etwa 1100 Euro teure Sport Chrono Paket. Dann bekommt man auch die Uhr auf dem Armaturenbrett.

+William Smith Puh...hard to say. The petrol one sounds a lot better and has a more sporty character, definitely is quicker. But if you just want a car for long trips with style and you don't care as much about performance, the diesel is a very good choice as it doesn't sound like a diesel.
Diesel in my opinion, torque benefits, also surely people are not looking for ultimate sport in a car this size

Nein, in diesem Fahrzeug nicht. Was bedeutet, dass er im Innenraum wie ein normaler (laufruhiger) 6-Zylinder klingt, von außen allerdings im Sport-Plus Modus sehr bassig, da sich scheinbar eine Klappe in der Abgasanlage öffnet, für einen Diesel schon ziemlich cool.
+Automann-TV Aber verbaut ist keine Sportabgasanlage oder? Also die originale meine ich.
Istanbul-1453 Ja, die Serienmäßige Anlage für den Diesel S, es gibt ja noch eine optionale Sportabgasanlage die dem des Benziners ähneln soll. Ob das dann gut klingt weiß ich (noch) nicht.

may1787 Totally different vehicles, price and quality/performance-wise. The Macan surely is two classes above!
+may1787 We have a Macan, my father is on his second Evoque. The Evoque is a nice car, but nowhere near the power or agility of the Macan. The Macan is also quieter in the cabin. Drive them both and pick the one you prefer.

Is the Macan similar in size to the Audi Q5 and/or the VW Touareg? I never considered the Macan. I love it! Don't know much about it though. I'm 6' 2" and the Audi Q5 (before 2013) feels tight for me.
I've been waiting for a German auto maker to bring out a strong diesel SUV (more than 450 ft. lbs of torque). The BMW X5 has that twin turbo diesel in Europe, but it's not coming here. The Europeans seem to get the the higher torque diesel motors. The Touareg 3.0L is a bit weak and is well over $60k here in US. The VW has well-known issues with quality and their diesel in my opinion, should be much stronger for that price point. The Q5 diesel has similar power numbers to the Touareg.
I waited for a while for the 2015 BMW X5 Diesel to come out in the US and they decided to cut the power for US bound vehicles. It has a bigger interior than the well-made Q5, but similar to the Q5, it has it's irritating iDrive (without touch screen) like the Audi's horrible MMI. I've used both interfaces and from your video, the Macan has a MUCH more user-friendly, touch-screen interface with reliable buttons! (Good demo!). That's important for me. I just won't consider the Q5 at this time (Audi's new Q7 is not here yet), because their MMI is impossible to use quickly. I hate it. I love Audis but they won't compromise. Their quality is impeccable but they are ruled by technocrats.
I'm a power junkie and I've owned a big, modern diesel Chevy Duramax pick-up in the past while I lived in the cold mid-west. The Duramax is a very powerful and trouble-free motor. Diesel is unmatched. I want an SUV with big torque reminiscent of the last generation Touareg V10 diesel that had over 500 ft. lbs of torque. Why did they stop making that amazing motor?
After seeing this video, I believe Porsche has risen to the occasion and produced a solid diesel SUV paired with an intuitive interface and Porche's seemingly potent DNA. I am shocked at the performance but not surprised it is a Porsche. From this video, perhaps Porsche will lead this segment and will prompt me to check it out.

dzlfnatk Appreciate your feedback! Yes, the Macan is "based" on the Q5 therefore has a similar size. I will also be presenting the 2015 BMW X5 (M50d) in a Drive & Sound video within the next days and that's also a great car. But overall, the Porsche is better and worth its money!!!

ich bin mega enttäuscht von Porsche, antatt einen Motor zu nehmen der des Namens würdig ist, beispielsweise den aus dem SQ5 mit 313 PS (von Porsche aber gerne auch gepimpt) nutzt man wieder das alte Aggregat.... Sorry aber so ist der für mich nciht kaufbar! Ziert halt ab Februar ein SQ5 von MTM (MTM Chip 313 PS ..>360 PS) die Gerage.
der Q5 sieht aber Kacke aus,hol dir lieber den Macan und lass ihn für kleines Geld chippen , geht locker über 300PS
Diesels do not work well here in Colorado or in places where it gets really cold... Heck.. In North Dakota, they even have to plug in Gas Cars it gets so cold there.. Yikes !!
@ 0.39 secs that engine sounds very rattly - not what I'd expect from Porsche. I presume it's because it's a diesel.

hdidane00 no incorrect. The car is 30% Audi Q5 and 70% Porsche parts. Rumour is they spend £1billion on developing and would have been easier to build from scratch and that is what they will do with the 2020 new model coming in to production. Late this year 2018 or 2019 they will have a facelift

we buy diesel because we can not afford fuel and its porsche... IF u can not afford the fuel buy smaller car and cheaper petrol engine and get sound... but no people take credit bank and paying everymonth 1200 dollars and to have for fuel bill.. and they don't even have for food... I have diesel because i have no money for fuel. Not because of fuel economy. When i had money before i had petrol. SImple. U buy petrol porsche if u are rich.. Where is the logic to spend 200.000 grand and to have diesel ? Really logical.
