- A tribute to Wintergatan!
Played on the PO-28 and PO-20 from Teenage Engineering.
It's possible to make Arcade play the vibraphone part as well if you have 12 patterns to spare, but it's more fun to do it live on the Robot.
Only 35 seconds into the video head is nodding like crazy!
LOVE IT!
+Wintergatan 2.36 i want to head straight over to Wilys castle after hearing this
+Wintergatan me three!! :D
+Wintergatan You're becoming a legend :)
+Wintergatan You are the new creator ! It's clear that you have a BIG heart and a nicely working brain. Please, stay like this !
his machine is like fl + rl instruments wich is astounding tho
This would be the best NES music of all time.
+synapse49 NES soundchip was so poor it cand handle stuff like this
+VHS Headlines Ha!
The nes chip had 4 usable channels, it could get pretty close :D
Oh man i actually totally forgot about that :) thanks man!
CDScissor Gaming and stuff. No pwm :(
OMG... When the improv started. Instant teleport back to 1993 and the Demo Scene era :D
Same!!!
Demo Scene era? It is still going!
That was my thought!!!
@@l3p3 I should have specified "The heyday of the demo scene".
I def said out loud.. Shut the Front Door!
2:30
This part gets me every time. its so good.
Me 2. Absolute love.
Ah, throwback. This video introduced me to pocket operators, which i now have multiple of.
*jaw drops* I have never seen such devices before, let alone witnessed such expert use of them as musical instruments! Blown away! I wish I could give 5 of 5 stars!!
I'm pretty sure they technically ARE musical instruments 😂😂
Aaron Ingebrigtsen : but they ARE musical instruments, dude! simply, they are played live by a real expert> I must humbly admit I have the first 4 PO devices for more than 3 years now and am still fighting my way through the quite arcane programming and fingering on those pocket calculator keys. not the easier to master interface....
10 of 5 stars
Ahh, old youtube lol.
@@jamesbryan287 4 years isn't *that* old. That's only like 2017 tops.
Sometimes I think music is dead. Then I see Wintergartan's Marble Machine (I was originally sceptical/cynical as to whether it was real or another web-based advertising attempt at viral marketing and totally CGI. But after watching the vids, I'm in some kind of beautiful yet surreal world watching this.) being emulated by someone else using playing-card sized synthesizers that I didn't even know existed until just now.
It's fucking brilliant guys! Jean-Michel Jarre and Pat Metheny take note!
You should check out Wintergatan’s channel these days. He’s working on building the next iteration
:/
I never understood this music is dead mindset. One step beyond the mainstream easily proves an existing and bustling music scene.
love that improv part
T a l e n t
Oh my God when that improv kicks in... This is so cool! I'm gonna need a pair of these now
How do I get my calculator to do that?
with a ti z80 calculator and some assembly programming, You can play frequencies, but no harmonics. However, with some tricks you can be able to play something like this.
I think it was a joke playing on the fact that the pocket operators look like calculators
Well I wanted this to work on my Casio calculator
Kriger X. Rip XDD
You become the operator with your pocket calculator. #Kraftwerk
Sick song and great engineering. Your art is underappreciated.
+DanieleGiorgino The song is from Wintergatan
Well, no need to critique his hard work and dedication. He probably worked a decent bit for it to go right. And a heck of a lot more if this is the person whom invented it.
Even then, Daniele, you are so right. Maybe this should be a lot more common. I miss a lot of chip-tune music now...
Chiptune is the birth cry of a new instrument/machine. Melody bring life to it. The essence, the absolute sobriety, whole universe in a few Kb. Sobriety/melody is beauty in it most powerful term but you need to be aware of it.
I love how this song has sparked creativity in the maker community. So many people are doing their own covers using unique ways. One guy made a cover completely in minecraft. Anywho this is awesome dude! Love it :)
Late to the party but very happy I finally arrived. My head has exploded don’t expect any additional comments from me. Well done and thank you. I think Martin Molin is a genius I really enjoy his music. My biggest fear is that he will loose a finger or damage his hands building the MMX. I’m 70 and hope I live long enough to be able to watch new live performances. His music touches my inner being.
Wow man, simply amazing!!
Great improv section too. The square wave never loses its charm! Congrats
Thumbs up if the music makes you sad because you just beat the master bad dude, the credits are rolling and there are no more levels : (
wipout1 The exact feeling it evokes indeed.
+jihkosmos . the 11
*cri*
Water
Вот уже 7 лет периодически запускаю послушать сей шедевр... Эххх. Красота.
I'm the operator with my pocket calculator... no wait
FrangodaSadia1 A classic haha
FrangodaSadia1 it's more fun to compute
Equating note sizes... dividing time by notes to see empty space for fun... Wait, the last one didn't work... Were is the darn music?
Wait a minute, this isn't my operator!
This cover is SOOO good! The solo reaaaaaally makes it and I need it on Spotify!!!
A new lftkryo video??
From 2:30 starting to sound like one of the Nintendo Mega Man games and/or Harmonic Voltage from Animusic.
Actually love that tiny "do'h"-moment, makes it sound more genuine :) Great work!
The sound these devices produce is like nothing else AND I FKN LOVE IT!!!!! This is my childhood and it is amazing. You have inadvertently made my day 🤓
You're a legend!
YeaH!
I've never seen anything like this before. amazing job!
Goosebumps and hair raising on the vibraphone part. Love that old school nintendo sound. THANK YOU
I need this in my life.

You have it

Sounds great, like the end credits of a SNES game, nice and touching. The beginning of the video is like a tutorial, loved it!
Let me tell you that your art has reached Mexico!!!!!
Saludos desde Mexico. You are a LEGEND my friend
Ahh.. reminds me of the intros from the C64 Cracking days of games during the mid to late 80's which you could find on BBSes of the day. Well done!
What keygen is this from? xD j/k...
IDM 😂

Amazing how the electric interactive entertainment industry has evolved to even more subcultures! I love this! Mix of retro and creative music!
It sounds so much like Future Crew , that solo specially. Cool stuff , thank you !
This is absolutely beautiful. It's such a shame the actual marble machine will never be finished.

Amazing & beautiful.
I really wish this to be on Spotify D:
I love this cover.
This is absolutely the best tribute to any song, to any artist, to any machine on youtube...
HELP ME, MY HEAD IS NODDING TO FAST, I THINK THE SONG IS TOO GOOD FOR ME, I BROKE ALL MY STUFF
Admittedly, this took me some time to get into, but wow ... once you kicked it in and ESPECIALLY the 'improv time!' That was amazing! Thanks for making and sharing this with the world!
WHAT IS THAT THING. I WANT ONE! 😆 I'm a big fan of eight bit stuff
Uffff! Pure nes synth! Reminds me of megaman games…. Awesome sound and composition…
God this was awesome. I always get envious when I see people who make this kind of stuff look easy (in a good way!).
i´m loving it so much, so much !
Brings me back to the OCEAN games for Nes, Gameboy and Megadrive.
If you played Ocean games on those systems, you missed out on the Ocean loaders ;) Ocean had some of the finest chiptune composers of the 8-bit computer era, they brought a bit of that magic to the consoles too!
LFT designed these mini-synths (yes, he's the designer as well as the perfomer) to be able to recreate many classic sounds of the Commodore 64. You should check out his "Lunatico" demo if you like this sound :)
Retro is love, retro is life. This cover is the best
This needs more views, very well done.
nice to see you pay homage to your grass roots!
8 Bit 43VA
rarrr man that's out of this world! fantastic
How cool is that! Love it too! :)
This is mind blowingly clever. I'm well impressed by this track. Still have a respect for the old 8 bit computer tracks. Brilliant.
you can see how his heart rate increased as he got closer to the end in fear of messing up. Freaking amazing work dude!
Fantastic, and a composition truly worthy of a tribute, as well.
8-bit heaven...
That device is magic
Good job shouting out detektivbyrån! They deserve more attention!
It reminds me of Megaman games on Family Computer days! Its new but i felt so nostalgic,,,nice
