Pain in the neck spine can be caused by cervical spondylosis. In this disease, there may be pain in the hand or even pain in the shoulder. There may be pain in the hand due to the compression of the nerve in the neck. Pain in the nerve of the hand can be caused by pressure.
Cervical spondylosis, as Dr Jaydev Panchwagh, a famous Brain surgeon and Spine surgeon explains is a compression of the spine by either a slipped disc, or bony osteophytes, or bony spurs, or calcium deposits. This reduces the cervical canal to narrow and cause pinching of cervical spinal cord or the cervical nerve roots.
Cervical canal narrowing is commonly caused by bony spurs, osteophytes, slipped disc or trauma. This leads to cervical radiculopathy or cervical spondylotic myelopathy, both of which are potentially dangerous conditions. This severe narrowing of cervical canal can lead to tingling in hands and legs
    (हाथों और पैरों में झुनझुनी), weakness in hand and legs (हाथ और पैरों में कमजोरी), difficulty in buttoning shirts (शर्ट के बटन लगाने में कठिनाई), slipping of chappal from feet (पैरों से चप्पल का फिसलना) etc.
Cervical Spondylosis may lead to cervical spondylotic myelopathy. This needs a spine operation which usually not too risky, called Anterior Cervical Decompression and Fixation or ACDF.
Dr Jaydev Panchwagh who is a very senior and experienced spine surgeon in Maharashtra has performed several of these operations successfully.
