Hello. I can't believe it but I just bought this trailer in Virginia yesterday. Unbelievable that I found it here. Its nice to know where it came from and how it was built. I plan to make some changes and add my roof top tent. Cant wait to use it.
I have since transitioned to a tentrax trailer. I dig the axle less suspension. I would change that about my DIY design if I went back. I still aspire to build a bigger conquerer Australia style trailer at some point, and a Van. More videos as I have time. I have 3 kids and a 50+ hour a week job so… 😒 it may be a while
@@PatrickMetzger I hear you man, I have 3 kiddos and work full time. I’m getting into the overlanding as I can bring my oldest with me and I have friends that I wheel/camp with. Most of my wheeling is day trips and I’m not building my 2021 Tacoma for hard core off-road. I have an old Toyota pickup for mud/rocks. Great work on this trailer!! It’s so simple and looks nimble… Quick question about the superstruts: are they adjustable in height? Can you play with the tent height?
Thanks! I tried to build it simple. I didn’t make super strut in an adjustable way, but you could do that for sure. I’ve seen a tube in a tube design on other trailers and I prefer fixed. The tube in a tube rattles a lot going down the trail.
I bolted it at the bottom around the vertical 1” tubing (the black part) with a u bolt and then I tapped (1/2 self tapping bolts) an L bracket in the top edge of the trailer.
I don’t recall specifically, but you can get the dimensions off your vehicle by measuring from your trailer hitch receiver to the corner of your bumper. That can be a good gauge on the right length

Tony Daniels thanks! yeah no one cares down here in Georgia. I’m sure they were not even really looking for it. I drove it down to Florida several times and all through Georgia and North Carolina too.
Thanks for sharing your project ! How much weight would you say your super-strut structure can handle in addition to the tent which usually weights between 120 - 150 lbs. ? I am doing a build up on a utility trailer for off-road and I need to decide on a budget friendly approach... Again Thanks !
@@PatrickMetzger That's just my wife, I'm probably a Ford F150 myself, ain't gonna work for me. But yes, I also used super strut as a roof rack, it can hold a lot of vertical weight :D
