One thing that is not talked about and is in fact a reality is that all vehicles emit about 50% of very harmful particulate emissions from their brakes, tyres and wear on the road surface. The electric vehicles, like for like, emit even more of these emissions as they are heavier due to their very large batteries.

As someone who is eligible for the temporary exemption for ULEZ (as i have a new van on order) i can tell you now that the system you have to apply through is specifically designed so it is almost impossible to be granted said exemption. They require an order form or correspondance from the dealership giving a specific delivery date. Anyone connected to the motor trade will tell you that since The Coof, there is no such thing as a delivery date anymore. You order the vehicle, then wait till it turns up. There is no facility to chase the vehicle build or order with the dealership or manufacturer....
Also, there is barely a car on the road that isnt worth more than 2 grand as prices has been forced up quite significantly because order wait times are so excessive now, artificially inflating the whole used market by a large degree.
So Mr Khant, by offering the scrappage payment, is using taxpayer money for what exactly??? I bet the take-up for this scheme is tiny and almost irrelevant...

They are at the end of the day money raising funds. No one drives in congested areas if they can avoid it, thus those who have to be there are being penalised, as far as carbon issues go, driving around a longer distance uses more fuel, and no amoount of fines are going to make any carbon immisions go away, It is all cloud cukoo land to generate revenue. Sadiq Khan’s, to reduce toxic air by expanding the ULEZ to greater London will not work.
He doesn’t really care about toxic air quality and here is why:
    - He has already made the toxic air far worse since he has introduced the LTN’s which have increased the toxic air on the main roads because we are forced to use them as there are no other alternatives, especially during rush hour. The roads are now grid locked with traffic moving at walking pace and the fumes are getting denser and not dispersing. LTN’s need to be reopened as it is causing more damage than good.
Among all this, the mileage in vehicles has also increased due to the fact that we are forced to go the long way round to get to the required destination - all accumulating to even more emission being emitted! Bravo Sadiq & team.
    - The health for pedestrians and children as they walk along these main routes to get to stations, schools, shops is deteriorating. Even the drivers inhale more fumes when we are stuck in stationary traffic. This is really aggravating and makes no sense!
    - Cycle Lanes: Should not be taking up an extra lane of the roads, large pavements could be divided into two for cyclists.
    - The introductions of 20MPH roads are also a problem because emission fumes don’t disperse quickly and the air is getting even more polluted because of the need to drive in lower gears.
Sadiq’s statement: “It is to reduce toxic air pollution” is clearly not accurate and is making matters worse. The situation is getting extremely out of hand and something needs to be done to stop him from ruining our climate even more. He should resign and Londoners should vote for someone who will make London a greater and more desirable place to live in. There needs to be a more logical and strategic plan that is well thought.
    Vinnie Lauda
