They should have removed the five small turrets and added one huge turret with the largest possible large-calibre/low velocity derp-gun. Why? Just because it would've been frikken awesome!
America was the same with machine guns on tanks. For them any space needed a machine gun. And if you can fit one you can fit three. At one point even the driver had two.
I'm so surprised this land ship hasn't made an appearance in video games or movies I've seen cause this is easily the most handsome and intimidating actual super tank/ land ship out there!
HISTORICALLY: It was usless aganst other armor ME IN WAR THUNDER: And this was the game where i ambushed the enemy team in a T-35 and knocked out the 5 guys on point and made a last stand against three more killing 2 before dying.
After 26 years studying ww2. The best thing is that I constantly realise how much more I have the joy to learn. I had no idea this tank was used in 45. Excellent!
Two prototypes of the spg version were built on the T-35 chassis , the SU-14 (scrapped in 1960 open version ) & SU-14-2 who's displayed at Kubinka together with the only remaining complete T-35 today . I wonder how the smaller Medium but also multi-turreted T-28 fared against German armor , i guess equally as bad ...
I’m delighted that you are carrying a sponsor, and I will totally watch their ads, simply because you content is so good, so well researched and so well presented. Good for you.
The thing looked like it could have really done something, what with five turrets and all. Turned out to be a joke in actual combat. Would make a fun scale model to build though.
It probably would have been ideal in a WW1 type of battlefield where it would have to deal with pillboxes and soldiers in trenches. Unfortunately by the late 1930's such a battlefield wasn't going to happen anymore and tanks had to be primarily designed to deal with other tanks first and foremost.
The United States supplied 4,102 M4 Sherman medium tanks to the Soviet Red Army through Lend-Lease during World War II. Mark, could you do a video on these Shermans?
When you build a special combination of unreliable, slow, thinly armored, and shot traps everywhere. Couple all that with the NKVD behind you ready to shoot you down, and it's just so many ways to die for the Rodina.
Good stuff, Thank You. Its kind of funny that everybody was going for "Bigger is Better" but it was the massive numbers of American medium tanks that overwhelmed the advisories. Not saying the Sherman was a superior tank; just simple, easy to build, fast to get off the production line and that meant vast numbers could be built then shipped to Europe and the Pacific. Wouldn't have wanted to serve in a "Ronson" but God bless all that did. True heroes.
The main gripe with these - like most heavy tanks until late war - was not the thin armor, weak armament, awkward general arrangement and amazingly low cost efficiency, but their general inability to get from A to B with any reliability even under peaceful conditions, let alone on the battlefield. In the case of the T-35 though, those two 45mm tank guns and the 76.2mm howitzer can really hurt the germans, given chance. Therefore, as a Soviet commander I wouldn't even have tried to fight them as tanks; I would have had 48 T-35-sized holes dug at crossroads and other strategic points, broadside-on to the expected enemy advance. If each one could have delayed the german spearheads for even a couple of hours on the average, that would have been a full 4 days lost to the Wehrmacht, which in June/July 1941 would have been a massive advantage. Leave the actual tank-fighting to the T-26s and BT-7s, in support of the static T-35s. Then again, as a Soviet commander I would have been shot for such a defeatist move, LOL
I thought the colour footage was wartime but take a look at 3:27 there's a section of modern crowd control barrier. Maybe a museum reenactment somewhere ?
The irony of his sponsorship is very real. In-game, the T-35 is an incredible tank for its tier (4). It's very fast and has a top gun that can lay down extremely accurate, long range fire that can easily out-DPS most opponents. It still has terrible armor and poor camouflage values, but it's a tremendous sniper that a good player can use to dominate the battlefield with.
It's a fun tank to play in War Thunder RB. Very unpractical, and it often gets ammo racked or bombed, but when it works out it's cool being this huge, lumbering battleship of death. Same with the German Neubaufahrzeug. Also, had no idea that the Germans actually used one as a command vehicle.
Well this explain why WoT have still new players despite the bleeding population of the game . I love your channel it's one of my favorite of all times but please if you can get WarThunder for sponsor will be so much better. Great video as usual and to be honest i really forgot the fact that there is still a T-35 in existence .
@Adam Marcinkowski Well, it's not like the Polish Army then had a lot of choices. It was a difficult time for all Eastern European nations. Thankfully, we've all grown to appreciate that Communism is very, very bad.
l was in Armor once....Also was the Commander of a M-109 self propelled 105 Howitzer in Nam back in 1966...O,yes...tank's Doc. very very good as always...!

Mark Felton you obviously do a incredible amount of research ,and must have sources that are not available to the history buffs like me I have done a lot of reading abouts the 1st and 2nd world war and am always amazed at how you find hidden gems. Please keep it up.
This is an excellent video, thank you very much. I do have a suggestion for another video or series of videos. It would be interesting to learn of their fate their successes and also what aircraft they used and the Livery of their aircraft, as well as which Italian aircraft we're pressed into luftwaffe service.
This must have been the only piece of WWII military equipment larger than the Yamato. There was some amazing color footage, too good to have been real WWII footage. I'd love to know where that originated. Thanks for another excellent piece!
This is like a tank I would have drawn as a kid in elementary school.
Yeah, and double-barrelled guns per turret.
In Soviet Russia, tanks drive you, comrade.
poor tank was on the losing side twice in one war!

Armoured Mayhem-didn't they support Spinal Tap on their last tour?
Very tongue in cheek

Awesome video my friend!
What a beast. These multi turreted behemoths were popular between the wars on all sides. Land battleships indeed.

Brilliant to have learned of the Italian heavy tank the P-40, would enjoy to learn more about the P-40.

They could have made five effective and efficient tanks for the same amount of resources they wasted on this wonder blunder.

61 built in total. That's too many as it is for such a bad idea for a tank.
Keep in mind this was a very early design. At that point noone really knew what a good tank design was.
Tell that to the Germans when they built the Ferdinand
@@XMysticHerox I guess alot of it came from ww1. The British still thought of tanks as infantry support rather than a force in it's own right.
There could have quite easily been grand landship battles on seas of soil with land docks and landphibious assaults.
For what it is design to do it would be a very good idea for a tank...
