    A good thing to do after you've drilled your hole is to clear out any remaining cement dust from the inside of your hole. Removing the remaining dust with a shop vac or air hose will assure you the exact depth you need.

    You did a great job explaining this build. I may build the same thing. Last time I did a metal building, the corner pieces were pricey. It has been over 5 years but 4 corner pieces 10' long were $50.

  • @kengrimes4586
    @kengrimes4586 5 лет назад +6

    Cutting wheel and a grinder will do the job for cutting your metal to size.an i would only put one screw because more holes will just weaken your tubing, a couple of x braces would be good though. You did a great job on your build put mine up with just the canvas topper but when its destroyed i probably ut on some metal.thanks for your time

    • @Mikefngarage

      it is really strong too. I dont know if it would hold a huge snow and ice load but I think I could put most of my weight on the roof ant it would hold.

    YES, YES, YES, thank you. I got a free frame from my neighbor that got damaged in a storm. Almost done repairing it and time to think of a cover. I am 66 and NO I do not want to replace it every ten years or less. How about plastic siding?

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  10 дней назад

      wind would take the plastic siding down. Needs to be the PBR style metal roofing material. it makes it super strong. had 80mph winds a few years back and nothing moved.

    Great job! I would run the roof metal panel ridges the other way for shedding snow if your in the snow zone. I’m in the process of reinforcing my portable carport at the 2600 foot elevation and have snow, wind, and falling pine tree limbs to contend with!

  • @georgekane1985

    BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE, I WOULD CAUTION ANYONE NOT TO DO THIS. I had a harbor freight carport collapse on my car after a snowstorm. It smashed my windshield and bent the windshield frame….. total damage was $3700. There are other materials to use if you want to make a similar structure. This tubing, in the harbor freight unit, is EXTREMELY THIN. my damage happened two years ago, and in my housing development last year it happened to another resident. In both cases there was damage to the car after a snowstorm. I don’t imagine this harbor freight structure would do any better in Highwinds.

  • @RobiSydney
    @RobiSydney 6 лет назад +3

    Temecula allows 100 sq ft. so 8' x 12.5'. For your rafters, take scrap PBR and screw it to each section, if you have extra poles, you can use them as well. Old washer has three sides you can cut up for bracing. Anything with solar electric on top doesn't count towards property tax if you go bigger.

      nice with the way I built this you could almost fit a car inside that Maybe a small one. because you almost get the full 8ft inside VS if you use a wood structure you loose too much to fit a car insde and open the door.

    Oh yeah 😎. What size EMT fittings? (EMT=ElectroMetalic Tubing= Conduit as in Electrical Conduit) l.5 inch or 2 inch EMT fittings? Would EMT Compression fittings be stronger/better? FYI EMT "Compression-to-Box" and only Compression-to-Box fittings, the threaded end that goes into your metal box, these threads are same as SAE plumbing threads. Remove the lock ring first, then screw the threaded end of Compression-to-box to the galvanized plumbing fitting of your choice.

      the thing I forgot to mention is that the reason I made it with these smaller poles is so you have more room inside. I can get in and out of my bus no problem in this building. a little tight but I put a car cover over it also without the door. Havent made it yet. but it should not blow off because there is only one opening.

    How many panels did it take to go up, over and down the other side? Plus the panels for the closed end?
    Will you add a panel or two to close up the front peak? That would look really good if you don't need the height for what your driving in there. 🇺🇲👍🏻

  • @chrishemingway4491
    @chrishemingway4491 Год назад

    It does matter what you use to cut the metal them pipe cutters are great because if you use like a grinder which you can and a lot of poeple do or a saw saw and that leaves a rough edge which adventually causes rust unless you seal it with paint where you cut it but that’s a smart choice on your part by choosing the pipe cutter man roofless to you and I did the same thing as you ended up doing it for under 300 but didn’t close the walls in yet I just did the roof and the gable ends I’m doing the back this spring then I’m gonna put a garage door on it with a back man door so I can pull my truck in it and be able to work on my truck out of the elements outside I did mine in regular union corrugated metal got em from Lowe’s for 26$ a piece galvalumed or something does the job for me keep the ran and snow out of the place and off my truck then allows me to work on my truck in the winter without being cold as heck

      @@Mikefngarage i got a bunch of composite asphalt roof panels (3ft x 6ft) that only weigh 14 lbs each to go on top of my round top shelter; they are wavy can fit under each others edge. shd i use self tap screws like you did or bolt it right through a two hole puncture at each spot put shim under bolt head go through the tubular steel frame then put a bolt underneath to finish it. other thought i had was to use pipe hangers to go around the tubular frame instead of drilling a hole right through it to get the bolt right through the whole tubing. but i dont know if a pipe hanger (using bolts on both ends through the tile top surface then have the pipe hanger metal underneath the tubular frame and attach beside the tubular frame thereby not drilling any holes into the frame at all. your thoughts?

      @@Mikefngarage I took two 12x20x8 ShelterLogic Garage-In-A-Box frames and doubled up the ribs. I ended up with a 12x20x8 portable tarp building with a rib every 2'. I then put metal sheeting on it horizontally. I have a really high snow load here, but when I was climbing on the peak (to screw on the top sheet over the peak), it felt pretty solid to me. My past two tarp covers only lasted one year - lately we have been getting 100 km/hr wind events at least once a year and the ShelterLogic tarp covers cannot handle those wind speeds. The shed looks pretty ugly, but it should keep my firewood dry for many years to come.
