Good luck in Iowa this year my PA guys. Good news, they tabled the trail/cell cam ban here in Iowa. Maybe I’ll run into you when your here, best of luck. Nock down a few bigguns.
Iowa is worth the wait and the investment. The money spent nowadays on so called "land experts" and gimmicks of every kind in the social media hunting world should be the topic. Iowa is the ultimate example of managing your resource properly, and yes it costs money to do things at a higher level, no matter what you are doing.
I'm from Iowa, this year was my third year hunting and first year bowhunting. I only hunt public land and took a 157'' 13pt, he easily weighed over 250 pounds. Two other bucks came in right after he took off about 50 yards and fell over, one looked to be bigger than the one I shot. Took him to the taxidermist, wont see him again for 16 months. This video doesn't hurt anyone's feelings from Iowa. Good luck!!
I don't have any plans to go hunt in Iowa but I got a reality check today after pulling cards from the cameras on my property that have been in place for 2 months; I dont have any mature bucks this season! The largest I have day lighting is a 100 inch 8 point that might be 3.5 years old. After considering how much money and time I spent putting in Summer and Fall food plots this year with seed and fertilizer costs being so high; a $1000.00 dollars for a chance at a trophy deer isn't too bad, all things considered.
140” deer is a world class deer, not by book standards but by hunter deer kill standards. No one goes to Iowa to save money. You go for the experience. This is like saying there is a Golden Corral in the town near a lake and a motel 6 on the water front for cheap, just a block away is Jon boat rental company. This lake is 45 minutes from the house, why would you book a cruise you saved three years for when you can do the Elle May cruise for half the price! Less than 10% of hunters are hunting to feed their family, those guys don’t leave their home state, EVER.
I 100 percent agree with you I live in MN and hunted Iowa twice once in 2016 and again in 2021. In 2016 I took a 130" buck. In 2021 tag soup. I just cannot justify that kind of money anymore for a tag. I am going to give Wisconsin a go next year. The ironic part is I took my biggest buck to date in 2019 a 171" 13 point right here in my home state of MN.
I live in north central Wisconsin(Lincoln county) hunting mature bucks up here is more challenging then other area’s I would say anyways, i know each area is different but most areas you don’t have to worry about wolves either, but it’s 100% worth all the effort as you probably already know 😂
If you come here don't bother with juneau county anymore I had to start venturing out further from home because there's just not quality bucks anymore unless y I u have an entire season to find one
@whitetaillandmanagement, Thanks for this video and keep the content coming. Sincerely every serious resident Iowa Bowhunter... PS - Has anyone ever wondered why we (Iowa) are getting all these social media and RUclips hunting transplants that are making a killing from their content as a result of their residency?! Thank you Iowa legislators and the Iowa bowhunters association for standing up to the outfitting and non resident lobby on almost ruining our hunting with some of their proposed things they wanted changed in the most recent legislative sessions.
I spend $50-$100 in gas to hunt around my house….If I started adding up all the money I spend, I would have had to stop hunting years ago. I love to hunt, and I just bought my first point for Iowa… bucket list for me!👌💪
I agree 100%. Many other states to hunt whitetail bucks. Wyoming is very overlooked but they have world class deer but anyone out of state don't generally think whitetail there. Kansas, Montana, Minnesota and many others.
I live in iowa as well, blessed to have access to 700 plus acres of private land. 2021 took a 182" 2022 took a 155" . but i see your point if your out of state. i am orig from MN , cheap to go back there to hunt. i agree the investment would be hard to swallow.
Iowa has made it very clear for non residents we don't want you but we'll take your money great video hope alot of people take it to heart and for those who don't I pay 28 bucks for a Iowa bow tag.
Exactly, We don’t want you here. This is our State. Southern Iowa use to be the best kept secret until the Internet and the big money from the east moved in. Now hunting ground is priced out of normal residents budgets. Shit leased ground is getting stupid. Out of State hunters are no different than a predator Coyote.
Iowa residents should have to buy a preference point for at least 4 years to go hunt or fish any other state! I’m from Florida and was a fishing guide and it would be nice to make any one from Iowa buy a point for 4 years to come use our waters! Fair is fair! Bet that shit would change if they had to do the same thing!
I love how people think Iowa is the holy land for big bucks. There's some nice deer in places but definitely not everywhere. And public ground in the good areas you'll be right on top of everyone else. Good luck!
As a iowa resident I couldn't agree more save your money hunt somewhere else We iowa deer hunters would like that ya but as for the deer we need ya to hunt Especially doe only tags
Lot of money but I have to admit only been out of state once using outfitter in Illinois and had a great time with friends. Looking forward to next year’s trip
I think that applies to a lot of hunting especially mule deer in Colorado I've seen people take bigger deer more consistently out of units that don't require any preference points to draw that units that require you to wait 16 years
My father killed a 380in bull in Colorado in a otc unit the fun thing is that wasn’t the biggest bull he seen. It’s unit 60 and I highly suggest trying it out if you’re into elk second or third season is the best time because it’s the winter ground for the elk in Utah, it has like a 33% success rate it’s super underrated because it’s the smallest unit in Colorado I think if not pretty close to it
Are you trying to discourage people to hunt Iowa to improve your odds in the draw? I've hunted there since 2001 and with outfitters and on my own ground. I believe it's one of the best states for your chance at giant bucks. Have numerous pictures of world class bucks. You aren't going to harvest a giant every time but just to see one is incredible. I get the draw and maybe have other options for waiting. Missouri is a good option. But I'm from Michigan and would never hunt deer at home. To disappointing. Just my opinion.
Iowa makes me a little sad. I went to high school and some college there, worked a bit and then moved to Wisconsin where I am now. Parents retired here, my sister lives here but my brother is still in Iowa. Going back 5 generations my family has hunted in WI. We moved to Iowa in the late 60's and I never hunted there while I lived there. My brother has paid the WI NR freight since he was 15 (now 68). Dad and his buddy are gone, his hunting buddy passed 3 years ago and now he hunts by himself. All I'd like to do is go to IA and hunt that season with him. We all grew up loving venison. Don't need another trophy, just another bag of meat. I'm lookin' at the cost and thinking that $700 buys a lot of beef, pork or lamb. Clearly Iowa is not the place to be a meat hunter. I'll probably go and spend the woods time with him but pass on the hunt part.
Non-residents should be looking for states with less timber when they are on a short 7-10 day hunt anyway. The less timber, the more funneled the deer activity, the easier they are to kill on a short hunt.
Really wanted to hunt other places than where I live in Texas. Actually have been looking for places to buy and iowa was top on my list. New subscriber here but have enjoyed watching your videos. Thanks for everyrhing.
I could surely use one of those cameras to film all of the Timberwolves I have up here in Northern Ontario Canada. You should be hunting here with me at my resort. Just saying.
Everything about your video sounds like I want to hunt iowa! In the army and as a private company employee, everything you say is what I've been told by others to get people away from their protected cushy situations...

My question is to you my Good fellow! I’ve never hunted Wisconsin I have friends there that do however . What if other states charged non-residents a lot to hunt personally, I think it’s outrageous some of the prices these states are getting away with. What you’re not realizing is. You’re making the sport, not as community friendly 2 you’re promoting people from out of state to stay out. 3 your funding Game Warden ‘s to get new trucks every year my family was a Game Warden. And I’ve seen some of the inside works of how it worked back then. So the states pillage on other states hunters. It’s just outrageous in my opinion. When states should just say hey, we don’t want out of state hunters. If you would like to move to our state and confined to our society. Then, by all means we welcome you. I’m sorry that I disagreed with you, but it needed to be said. The state that I came from Florida had a great set up when it comes to the Hunter resident and nonresident But happy Fourth of July when I’m writing this. You’re around license for hunting and fishing and everything. Is around 315 that comes with the turkey license fishing license freshwater hunting license Muzzleloader stamp archery stamp deer hunting stamp And about everything you need Except saltwater license for the year as a non-resident
I would look at Iowa as a state to once in a lifetime. Not that I couldn’t afford it but to pay $1000 for one tag is ridiculous when I could go to four other states in the same year and pay less than that for tags.
I'm okay with this, for two reasons. I live and hunt Iowa, so more for me. Secondly it's an opinion, based on facts. So no matter where you are hunting, good luck!
I feel for you buddy, those non resident tags are expensive. I'm lucky enough to be born in IA and we have 80 acres in Appanoose No hurt feelings here!
All of these so-called deer states really get me. They have no idea how much revenue, out-of-state owners piranha in terms of hotels, gas, restaurants, etc. many states would give the right arm to have tourist applying to come spend money in their state. As for me, I’m done applying to lottery states. Let’s show them what it looks like to have limits imposed. We’ll limit ourselves, thank you very much.
Money is the least important reason to hunt or not hunt Iowa or another state. I’m not rich and never have been. I save, scout and devise some kind of plan to out think the other bow hunters out there. Plus I take a month off to hunt the state m focused on that year. 2024 should be the year I draw for zone 9. Been applying for 5 years and all the while been waiting I’ve hunted 4 other states. After Iowa comes Illinois for me. Unless I don’t get drawn. Then Illinois gets bumped up. I’ve found over the years a month off gives me so much more patience to let the hunt play out and not be so rushed to complete a true hunt of a lifetime in a week. That usually leads to disaster as you overplay an advantage or stand site based on time. The clock ticks by so fast in a 6 or 7 day hunt. Guys take too many chances too fast.
As a Missouri resident, the ease of which you can get a tag and hunt northern Missouri relative to the quality of hunting is absurd. No way out of staters should be able to buy tags for under $300 and hunt northern Missouri.

I would love to hunt Iowa, but 6 years? Damn thats long. Just to shoot a 150. Lol. Thats true. You can get a 150 in any state. But im sure you will have a lot more opportunities in iowa though. Maybe iowa is considered a free range outfitter thats cheaper but makes you wait 😂
Go hunt somewhere else then, we (the residents of Iowa) won't mind, i can assure you of that... Anyone that thinks that deer hunting in southern Iowa is "dying", is not very well informed. But what do I know, I've only lived here for 34 years...
You don’t have to pay that amount to play either. Plenty of other good states to hunt that you don’t need points for and cost a fraction of what you’ll be paying for in the end for Iowa.
@@whitetaillandmanagement what if u like to just blow money on deer hunting... lol haha been doing it since I been in diapers and I don't mean gadgets either! I'm hunting 1st season shotgun in Iowa. The tag and points cost me over $700. Crazy!!
I hunt my 40 acres here in the Ozark Mountains and that's just fine by me! Now, I need a really neat trail camera...hmmmm....:)
