When Wilt played, teams averaged about 75 rebounds a game. Now, it's more like 50. You'd have to play every game, every minute, and dominate the board to even have a chance.
Considering he was still rebounding better than players in their primes when he retired one wonders how crazy that record would be had he played a couple or 3 more seasons.
@@captaincooool Rodman had a limited skill set, and was basically tasked with just defense and rebounding, so that's what people talked about. He was still playing in the NBA at age 39 and averaged 13.1 RPG. Wilt retired younger with far more rebounds (22.9 RPG), but because he was a better rounded player who was tasked to do far more, his rebounding wasn't focused on as much. Other great all around players like Tim Duncan and Hakeem were great defenders with slightly lower rpg than Rodman because they also played offense, while Rodman rarely expended energy on the offensive end of the floor. Had they done nothing but play defense and rebound, the surely would have had higher rpg than Rodman.
@@libertarian4323 I specifically mentioned defense and rebounding. What was that big long post about? Also you're going to try to get specific to default Rodman but you will compare him to a center? 👌
@@captaincooool Merely pointing out that Rodman was just a role player who only did 2 things well, and racked big rebounding numbers because he was laser focused on those two things. Vastly better complete players like Duncan, Hakeem, Malone, Robinson, Garnett, etc were excellent defenders with only slightly less rpg than Rodman. Had they focused on just defense and rebounding as Rodman did, all would have likely had a higher rpg number than Rodman, as well as more total rebounds.
First to 10,000 rebounds - Dolph Schayes First to 20,000 boards - Bill Russell First to 23,000 rebounds - Wilt!! First to 25,000 boards?????? Wilt has now held the record for 52 years, can he hold it for a century?
No one will ever reach 20k rebound again, not even 18k. Todays shot efficiency is much higher than in the 50-60s and even 70s. Also the amount of shots per team is much lower, the amount of rebounds as well. It's almost impossible to do a 20+ avg rpg season nowadays and you have to do 20 avg rpg for 18-20 seasons in order to reach 20k rebounds imagine 24k to surpass wilt@@moeball740
The descent of the modern NBA into a moneyball game of paint shots and way too many bad 3-pointers, has all but killed the art of the midrange jump shot. When you look at all the downstream effects of that, it's hard to not conclude that a lot of the big career records aren't about to be touched, anytime soon. If that's true, then what's downstream from it?
Rodman averaged 14.9 boards per 36 minutes played. That's first among all pure forwards; followed by Jerry Lucas (14.5), Baylor (12.2), Barkley (11.5), Giannis (10.7), and Garnett (10.4). Lebron averaged 7.1, while Bird averaged 9.4.

1957-1958, Joe Graboski - the absolute best name for a rebounder.

@@edwells4769 No, they were NBA players.
Absolutely NOT!!!!

I believe Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren might have a chance of doing it
Wilt is Chairman of the boards lol
most crazy fact is that bill russell did 20k + boards in less than 1000 career games
Week error
Two giants and .. the others. :) I think the difference is even bigger in per-game stats.
The 20,000 rebound club is etched in stone. Now with 3 pt shots bouncing far from the paint, it may never happen again.
Wilt has at least 3 records that will never be broken. Career rebounds, most points in a single game, and 55 rebounds in one game. Insane.
And most points in a sesason (+4000) and i think also most rebounds in a season
And also most rebound&points in rookie season
H payed in a week error
50 point per season?????
26 blocks in one game :)

It blows my mind Denis Rodman didn't make the list.....🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
yeah its crazy but its a longevity thing. He's the best rebounding and defensive PF ever imo.

Rodman played in less than 1000 games but his rebounds per game average is one of the best ever.
1:14 wtf when Bill Russell enters the frame he bullied his way to the top spot. Wilt soon to follow....
What kind of program and math is used to do these calculations, this is incredible, is sorted per game or what?
