- The Cochem Castle or known as The Reichsburg Cochem. My parents were pretty impressed!
The castle was first mentioned in 1051, so it’s rather old!
The tour was mainly in German, so we missed some of the small details. They do offer tours in English, but we missed the last English tour of the day.
Overall the castle and the surrounding area are beautiful! It truly feels like you are walking into a fairytale.
The Moselle river runs next to the castle, where you can find restaurants, cafes, shopping, and boat tours! Cochem is such a lovely area to visit.

Shame you didn't go to Alken as well (just almost (well, quite a bit) opposite from Cochem), there's the only castle (Thurant Castle) with two towers and a wall between them, because way back, the two brothers owning the castle couldn't stand each other. Well worth checking out.

What I find great about your parents is that they just blend in. Sometimes you can spot American "tourists" from a mile away but they? Look just like any other German couple their age around here. I think my dad has the same shirt as your dad :D

I took a (googled) tour of castles in OH.Oh well… ;-)
(Of course, the page I looked at, claimed "some are old, some are new"… when the oldest are from the late 19th century, I just laugh in "place I grew up, tiny village, is over 1200 years old" :D)
Haha right. That’s what I told my dad. He’s constantly trying to get us to move to Ohio. Towards the end of the trip he told us that he understands why we love Germany/ Europe so much.

@@FaithMoncivais yeah, been around here and there. Still there are lots of hidden gems in Europe if you can find them, and offcourse depending on what you are looking for. For me its mostly mountain area's , rural area's with woodlands and historical sites.

Hahaha someone recommended us going there lol which ones do you recommend?? It was a nice castle but not my favorite.
@@FaithMoncivais Burg Eltz, not far from Cochem. For some grandeur, there is always Heidelberg, of course. Maybe not that spectacular, but great for an authentic feel, have a look at Burg Fleckenstein, just around the corner from you, across the French border.
Thanks for the suggestions! Leo and I went to the burg Eltz! Our favorite by far! We should have just taken them there honestly. We did a video on the burg Eltz and Heidelberg as well! I’ll have to look up the burg flekenstein, I haven’t heard of that one!
That's what I thought - Cochem's castle is pretty, but not very authentic. My first suggestion would have been Eltz, too. It is just amazing! Other great sights to see are the Marksburg above the Rhine River, the Felsenkirche (church in the rock, unfortunately it is closed for the winter, reopens in March) in Idar-Oberstein, Larochette Castle over the border in Luxemburg, or come to Hesse, the castle in Friedberg, 20 miles north of Frankfurt, is something to see with its tower that is open to the public and almost 60 m tall. Got a beautiful view from up there all the way to Frankfurt or to the Münzenburg 15 miles north. You should see Bad Nauheim too, with its large art nouveau complex. Friedberg and Bad Nauheim were Elvis Presley's home when he was stationed in Europe. And while you're here, see the Saalburg as well, one of the largest reconstructions of a Roman castle in Germany with a large museum. If you would like to go on an even longer roadtrip, I'd recommend Rothenburg, Schwäbisch-Hall, Bamberg and the Zollernburg - all in the south of Germany and quite beautiful. Sorry it got a bit longer, guess I got carried away 😅

The point of these sort of videos "first time..." is that you get some feedback from the people that experience said events, places, music etc for the first time...this was a complete waste!
Strange video. You do not even give us the name of the castle and where it is located. Nor any other information? I get it, it is not a history class. At least when was it built and by whom. Instead we see a lady eating and laughing and a little girl sitting on the cobblestones?!
Strange comment. Did I not say the Cochem castle like 5 times? This is not an educational video. This is a video with my parents so yeah you see my mom laughing and my daughter sitting on cobblestone.
