  • Reichsburg Cochem (Germany) was originally built in the 11th century, but was completely destroyed by French soldiers in 1689. The present castle was rebuilt later in the 19th century. it has been owned by the town of Cochem since 1978.
    Castle tours are conducted in German. Free translation sheets are available in 12 languages.

    Unfortunately, none of today's people see this.
    If you carefully consider the territory through which the river currently flows, you can find some oddities in the surrounding landscape.
    What we see now is nothing more than an ancient quarry, the river and banks were formed by the work of a huge bucket wheel excavator.
    For example, on the right bank of the river, the characteristic traces left by his wheel are clearly visible (2:32)
    Over time, this place was filled with water and a river was formed.
