@@BetterWithBob I didn't know that Kingpin was initially supposed to be black in the comics, I'm surprised more people don't bring that up when defending MCD's casting 🤔.
We're in an era where a lot of films that got a bad rap back in the day are getting re-appraised, and this is no exception. Colin Farrell's Bullseye is still badass, though.

A lot of the cinematography in this movie looks beautiful. Maybe it's nostalgia even though I didn't see this movie back then, but there is a lot of crap cinematography back then like the fast shots in Daredevil. I enjoyed the movie as a kid and rewatched it several times. Since then I haven’t seen it since I became an adult but I doubt my opinion would change all that much. I remember how much everyone hated this movie for some reason. I had never actually read the Daredevil comics and assumed that people hated it cause it wasn’t accurate to the source material.
I love this movie more than anyone I know, and you've got some hot takes even for me. Trish Stratus??! Jokes aside, I'm right there with you. Aspects like the visuals, which were directly evoking DD comic book art, or the bold move of killing off the love interest, were things in 2003 that other superhero flicks just weren't doing yet, so I found the Daredevil movie refreshing and ahead of it's time in this way. Spider-man and X-Men may have been the heavy hitters, but Daredevil was more 'accurate' by comparison, and that goes a long way with me. Besides, my tastes always gravitated towards darker fare like The Crow, and Blade, and this film was more like those, so naturally, it was right up my alley. And yes, the soundtrack slaps. The Netflix show is great, but Matt's origin, his day-to-day life with blindness, his superpowers (yes, he has superpowers) even Bullseye, I'd argue are some aspects that I think the movie did better than the TV show.
This and the 2003 Hulk are very underrated I've always loved both of them Daredevil for being that dark gritty street level film with that 2000s sauce and Hulk being a depressing, unsettling monster film/ psychological character study on toxic masculinity, abuse, the comfort of the feminine and the sins of the father. Also the scores in both are excellent bangers I miss these films being sincere.
@@BetterWithBob Doesn't have to be the source of a new video but I would recommend giving the film a chance, interesting it always works when I show Hulk someone but that's probably I've probably better context for what their in for then the marketing.
Really good work with this video. I have always loved this movie since I saw it in theaters when I was young and will rewatch it now in my 30s. I know people have complained about Garner’s portrayal of Elektra but… I grew up on marvel cartoons(too poor to buy comics) and I never knew ish about Elektra. Actually never knew she was Greek before you mentioned it in this video. Also, don’t shit on Catwoman, that film is campy goodness serving looks and c***
Thank you for defending this film. I saw it multiple times in the theatre when it came out, but yes the director's cut is the superior version and should have been released theatrically. I also agree that Jennifer Garner was the weakest part of the casting. She at least was trying to give it a go as an action gal. I saw a clip on AOL Movies (that's dating me a bit lol) of the Daredevil roof top fight and it was weird because they had her attempting something of a Greek accent...I guess... Thankfully they decided not to do that, but I wish that clip still existed somewhere cause I feel like I am the only person who saw it!
@BetterWithBob 100% agree to Underworld and Resisent Evil. Can you also add Hellboy to your watch list? The first one which premiered aeons ago? There's a new release coming up soon, too. It's Hellboy: The Crooked Man. If you have the time, of course. We'd really appreciate it! 😊
One of the best parts of this movie is that they recreated comic covers as scenes in the movie, like the part of Daredevil holding on the cross. The DD being put on the ground was a reference to The Crow.
In my opinion, i actually like the movie. Its not perfect, but its definitely fun. Im curious about how tim burton would approach the movie since he likes to put a gothic filter on his movies.
Highly disagree with Jennifer Garner being miscast as Elektra. A lot of people actually liked her performance because it was reminscent of her focused and tough performance as Sydney Bristow in Alias. Her solo Elektra film is actually one of my personal favorite “superhero” films, it’s simple but effective in showcasing Elektra as some sort of super ninja assasin, and it did the “relunctant parental figure anti-hero” trope way before The Last of Us or Logan.
Personally, I think Jennifer Garner would’ve been a good action star the likes of Milla Jovovich and Charlize Theron if she was given better action movies. She has the acting chops and toned ballet trained body for it perfect for a female action star.
The only thing about this movie that drives me nuts. The forklift. Oh gods above the forklift! Why is it driving around with the tines raised like that? Why is he driving forwards with an obstructed view? He should be driving backwards since the TINES ASSEMBLY IS BLOCKING HIS VIEW! Sorry. I worked in warehouses for years. Normally I don't allow real life to break the immersion, but this incident... without it we have no Daredevil. It. Drives. Me. NUTS. If that forkie (forklift driver) had been following safe operation protocols there would be no movie. The convenience is egregious. Most times plot convenience doesn't bother me. Like at all. But that fecking forklift... As far as the movie itself? Colin Farrell steals the movie. The rest of the cast is fine, Michael Clarke Duncan is intimidating and plays Kingpin like he's been running New York for a decade. Affleck... is good. *shrugs* I never had a problem with his Matt Murdoch. Dude did a good job. But Charlie Cox did it waaaaay better. Looking forward to the next video mate. Hopefully no plot convenient forklifts in that one!
So I actually like Catwoman. It was one of my first "superhero" movie I saw, and I loved Haley Berry. Jennifer Garner was awesome in Daredevil and I also loved her in her standalone movie, even if that Electra is different from the one in this movie.
nolans best batman media is actually person of interest that has that there as echo, and caviezel being the worst isnt taking away how its a masterful shiow thats just. Also yess, its a really good movie, even the theatric cut , through cut out an integral part, its good, its fun, it hits, and ben affleck is really good. plus bring me to life is a really good scene. and ther is no shame in gushing kingdom of heaven i saw the directors cut. And its very earnest in portraying him as blind kid and struggles, and a badass. But also lost at times. I dont know how axcurate its to matt but its good grounding for the movie. And i realize now a great choice , the sad boy done right, he is, is great, and here it is, and its allowing edgy entry but its also very earnest , so its alonre an attractor. Bullyeye is fun ok.
I just rewatched Person of Interest and finished it within three months. It still holds up really good for its plot points, characters, and the reality that life isn't perfect before or after technology. Jonathan Nolan has had excellent work over the years. What I liked about POI is that starts with two characters and ends with both of them going in different directions. Something that Hollywood is missing today, they want to slap a "They Lived Happily Ever After ' stamp on their movies. It doesn't work that way.
On the subject of comic adaptations, the remake/reboot of The Crow is out... as a goth teenager of the late 90s/early 00 I have feelings on it and wonder if you do as well?
I didn't really grow up with The Crow and only saw it during either first or second lockdown a couple years ago, so I don't have much of an attachment to it
Did you see Peppermint? Garner in that movie was so damn good. I was 23 when DD came out, and i loved it for what it was and yes i even watched the Electra movie. Def hated that snobby girl in it tho and loved seeing elektra take her down a few pegs.

I was lukewarm on this movie when it came out. I felt there was much more that could've been done with it and since there's a director's cut, they apparently did do more with it than I thought. I'll have to watch it at some point. However, I have to disagree with you about Jennifer Garner. She's more than proven herself as an action star. I also don't know what your issue was with her outfit, though. You should definitely watch the Daredevil series. It's awesome.
@@BetterWithBob The way you worded it before that implied you didn't think Jennifer Garner was believable as an action hero because of it. I don't know, I guess I misunderstood what you said.
As a Greek I was deeply offended by the casting of an half African-American woman in the role of Electra in the series. Dwayne Johnson as Hercules in that flop. Australians that might have Greek neighbors in the cult classics Hercules and Xena series. The line must be drawn somewhere

I only saw The Crow for the first time a couple of years ago, so I didn't realise at the time how influential it was for all these films lol
Daredevil the director’s cut is one of my fav marvel movies!😁👍👍
I think I need to give it time but it'll likely be there for me too XD
This and the 2003 Hulk are very underrated I've always loved both of them Daredevil for being that dark gritty street level film with that 2000s sauce and Hulk being a depressing, unsettling monster film/ psychological character study on toxic masculinity, abuse, the comfort of the feminine and the sins of the father.
Also the scores in both are excellent bangers
I miss these films being sincere.
I never saw the 2003 Hulk movie but I've seen it getting a bit of vindication lately. HiTop Films did a really fascinating video on it
@@BetterWithBob Doesn't have to be the source of a new video but I would recommend giving the film a chance, interesting it always works when I show Hulk someone but that's probably I've probably better context for what their in for then the marketing.
@@BetterWithBob yeah the Hitop films video is great I'd also recommend Panels to Pixels and Super Frame's videos on it
Really good work with this video.
@@OperativeD oh wow they were going to have her do an accent and all?
Idk if you've done it yet, I'll double check, but The Punisher starring Thomas Jane is also one of my core memory comic book movies.
@@bongo_baggins I've never seen it unfortunately
Director's Cut is awesome
The Netflix series is certainly more faithful but this is good in its own right and has the best portrayal of Kingpin.
I admit it's taken me forever to watch the Netflix series because I don't want to see anyone else in that role lol
I honestly think this is a better daredevil defense than film master Adham at least better with Bob doesn’t go out shit on Toby Maguire Spider-Man
I hope one day we will get more videos defending X-Men Apocalypse
On the way lol
Can you do the last 2 underworld movies and the resident evil movies please
Resident Evil for sure!
@@MemeDungeonCheese it's on Anastasia so not sure if forklifts were around in 1926 😂
So I actually like Catwoman. It was one of my first "superhero" movie I saw, and I loved Haley Berry.
Jennifer Garner was awesome in Daredevil and I also loved her in her standalone movie, even if that Electra is different from the one in this movie.
@@TheMbangel I'm actually encountering more than one Catwoman 2004 fan in the last few years so you're not alone there lol
@@BetterWithBob Whoop! Glad to know that!
nolans best batman media is actually person of interest that has that there as echo, and caviezel being the worst isnt taking away how its a masterful shiow thats just.
I didn't really grow up with The Crow and only saw it during either first or second lockdown a couple years ago, so I don't have much of an attachment to it
Wow Trish stratus is a wild pick but it could work tbh
Hehe just a joke but I'm optimistic XD
Did you see Peppermint? Garner in that movie was so damn good. I was 23 when DD came out, and i loved it for what it was and yes i even watched the Electra movie. Def hated that snobby girl in it tho and loved seeing elektra take her down a few pegs.
Ah I haven't but might look it up
@BetterWithBob not gonna spoil it for you, but I think once she had a kid(s?), her acting got a little better, esp in that movie.
Give 2003 Hulk a watch
I love this movie and I do think the directors cut improves it. Batman returns is also my favorite Batman movie 🔥
I actually did a rewatch of Forever the other day and I think that might have overtaken it in my love lol
@@BetterWithBob forever is really good too, I also love that one. Hell I love all the old Batman movies, just cuz I grew up with them they hold a special place in my heart
By the way check out the witchblade series thats fantastic, and also, yeah the era of that but its actually, and i know witchblade is already feminist but its so good , grounded while using the 2000 stylism really well. And the feminism is more as stor told and , a literal white/dark knight XD, while staying grounded in fantastic characters.,
also iman/invisible man good series but different, its more a spy romcom.. and a bit later but the magicians is great, 12 monkey series gets soo good and person of interest. as mentioned, nolans best batman media , in that it plays in batman types due it being after batman while, being not (yes cavoiezel is horribkle and did abuse bear apearently, but , its fantastric, snd he id dstill directed wel and acting good)
Colin Farrell was infinitely fun as Bullseye.

The Directors cut is the only worthwhile version.
Very true ⬆
I was lukewarm on this movie when it came out. I felt there was much more that could've been done with it and since there's a director's cut, they apparently did do more with it than I thought. I'll have to watch it at some point. However, I have to disagree with you about Jennifer Garner. She's more than proven herself as an action star. I also don't know what your issue was with her outfit, though. You should definitely watch the Daredevil series. It's awesome.
Didn't have an issue with the outfit, I actually said I loved the costumes in the movie
@@BetterWithBob The way you worded it before that implied you didn't think Jennifer Garner was believable as an action hero because of it. I don't know, I guess I misunderstood what you said.
Spawn next?
@@garypasquill2355 never saw it but maybe
I love your videos. But you may be spoiling the new Deadpool movie for people who haven't seen it yet. As you don't give any spoiler warnings.
Haven't seen it myself but wasn't she outright announced to be in the movie months ago?
People love to hate on this daredevil movie and the green lantern movie and they sound like spoiled children to me 😂😂😂
I admittedly haven't seen Green Lantern in years but I understand it had a lot of footage cut from it
@@BetterWithBob I wish I got to play the game that came out with it at the time😅
I thought The Dere Devil movie was great.
As a Greek I was deeply offended by the casting of an half African-American woman in the role of Electra in the series. Dwayne Johnson as Hercules in that flop. Australians that might have Greek neighbors in the cult classics Hercules and Xena series. The line must be drawn somewhere
"I promise I'm not just some contrarian"
Proceeds to list off every generic Internet nerd contrarian opinion ever 🙄 I do think there's a few solid things about this movie but holy shit even the director's cut is a mess
I can't get past the idea of blindness and still being able to fight, that's a bridge to far. It would have to be partial or have a superpower compensating for it.
He does have a superpower compensating for it. His other senses are even more heightened - his hearing allows him a sort of echolocation effect and his touch gives him even better balance
Not to get too much into details, he essentially has a "radar sense", he's aware of everything that's around him in all directions
