Hi Luke, thank you very much for your videos, just came across a few! I have an idea for a pretty cool community project (interactive dashboard analyzing past trends and forecast) that might get shared and used by different groups, like cities / state as well as individuals. What platform/setup/license would you recommend? I'm expert level in Power BI for my line of work, but I'd prefer to stay on Mac and I wonder if I should switch to Tableau. Do you know which platform is more widely adopted for community projects that might be shared and used and have opportunity to become popular (I know wishful thinking but why not to dream big? :)) ? Thank you!
or if I need to rephrase in a more concise form. - which platform/licensing setup do you recommend for analytical portfolio to present to others which might get some attention?
For sharing dashboards with the public, I think Tableau is better than Power BI at this. Other option to consider for a simpler dashboard is Google Data Studio
Ha, thank you for the great recommendation!!! I went to film this weekend and almost started without the pic of the Panda!!! I knew you would have been upset so luckily I remembered at the last second to throw it in the shot!
And now I'm wondering how I can connect my love of data to my love of livestreaming and interacting with an audience. That's a tough one but I think I'll find a way.
Hey Luke! I want to be a data analyst as well but I don't have a work experience. What should I do? because most of the companies ask for a work experience. Which skills should I start learning now? Mention everything please
What can I do about job postings asking for "highest level of education" when I'm self taught and have graduated from an (unaccredited) online data science course? (Springboard data science career track) I have some college but no degree
That's a tough one. Obviously i'd recommend you be honest and capture your self-taught education in other parts of the form. IMHO if a company only wants to hire someone based on having a certain degree and not taking into account experience and portfolio, I don't think I would want to work for said-company.
@@LukeBarousse that's government jobs Africa. They only care about degrees (don't even care where the degrees were obtained from). Some unscruplous folks just go ahead and PURCHASE said degrees. Shady universities in this business abound here.

Hey Luke. How many projects do you consider enough to showcase your skills and interests?? I was thinking of around 10, however, I see you only share 3 projects on your resume including RUclips. Thanks a lot!!
I wouldn't characterize it by the quantity of projects, I think you should be looking at QUALITY. Employers want to see that you did a project that was impactful. If you can show this with just one project on how you created an impact; personally, I think that could be enough.
What are the implications of doing Analytics projects that are not aligned with the overall objectives of an organization? This is a question I that failed to answer base on peer assessment score. So I would like to know the correct answer as I'm having hard time to answer understand english. Thanks
Hi Luke. I am a data scientist aspirant. I am facing problems while performing EDA. Particularly, I am getting overwhelmed by the large number of options available for EDA. Can you suggest some tips regarding this?
They have soooo many options, I feel your pain. Honestly, the easiest way is pick one and go (whether it's a BI tool like tableau or coding tool like python). Stick with this one tool and then once you feel familiar expand from there.
Check out coursera, I have some links above in the description for some other popular options for courses I'm more familiar with. I'm not to sure on Tableau offerings in Coursera so I'd need to research this more.
@@LukeBarousse ok ..thank you .. also please look into data science courses offered by some Indian Institutions.. as they may be affordable for Indians..
You mention about biology. And i have bachelor degree in biology. Is that good background for data science? I'm afraid that i get into wrong passion and force me to get another related degree with data analyst, like statistics degree. 🙏
Honestly, I just spit out the first topic that came to my head... haha. BUT data science can be applied in so many fields, that is the great thing about this topic. With a background in biology you are more familiar with this topic so it would be more of an ease for you to explore data in this field, vice someone like me that may have a data science background and no biology background.
Also, this is a good way to transition... Start doing data science work in biology.. then once you are familiar with data science you can then apply to other fields you are passionate about.
@@LukeBarousse ah I see. Thank you Luke. Here in my country, biology related field that needs a data science ia relatively a few. So i was afraid with my biology degree i can't take any job outside of biology. Haha Thank you so much, count me as +1 subs
I just completed the data science specialization of JHU on Coursera. The lecturers here highly recommended a Degree in Statistics as a prerequisite for a well-rounded data scientist. Having said that, domain expertise (such as biology in your case) is also a bonus. Therefore, I would advise you to start exploring biology stuff where data analysis and machine learning can be applied and start a statistics program if you have the required time and resources
My background is accounting, can I using finance related field to make a project? I already have a plan for that just need lot of skills in programming to build
@@LukeBarousse Yha, that's the toughest part of being a Data Analyst cum RUclipsr 😅 Btw, any editing software tips for Windows user which we can use and from where we can learn it?
operations research is a very different role than a data analyst. All OR analysts are qualified to be a Data Analyst, not all Data Analysts are qualified to be an OR analyst. The key difference is fundamental skill in... Operations Research.
Hi Luke, how about people who want to shift their career into data analyst? learn from zero about that tools, like me I'm taking a data analyst online course from Google and another course. Which method is preferable for me to get a new job as a data analyst. Thank You
Hey Vermona, I think you're on the right route with the Google Data analytics certificate. I would start there and then start building your portfolio. There is no "preferred" method per se, just hard work and determination!
My undergraduate degree is in engineering and I took some coding classes, but for my Masters I focused on business analytics, so that is where I started to pick up a lot of these things. Unfortunately I would say most of my data science skills were self-taught and my Masters just inspired me to branch out and learn it myself.

Hi luke, I just enrolled in careera for data science course, I have no experience in this field but I am willing to learn. I just want to ask after studying do I need more certificate to apply for a job?
I wouldn't rely on the certificate alone to get you a job. You need to demonstrate EXPERIENCE for employers to hire you. Start building portfolio projects following your certificates

It's never too late! Keep up the hard work my dude!
With master cs you get easily 120k-140k job in web dev. Lots of work available.
Go for it.

When you say 120-140k I'm assuming you mean in a city?
Also, I actually do have interest in web dev myself since in my ML projects I deploy them using Django, and the Django restframework, I really love it. I think I might work towards it!
What projects would you recommend be on my resume to land a interview?

I recently found out about your channel Luke and I do have to say that I truly love your work and your attitude!!
So, I have a huge passion for History. Specifically antiquity/late antiquity and medieval periods. I recently started my journey in the world of data analytics. So I was wondering. Would I be able to combine these 2 (History and Analytics) to create a project in the future for my portfolio?
I feel you can, just will take some work
Thank you for sharing! Any opinion about Kaggle to showcase data skills?
Love me some Kaggle to demonstrate skills; I use it in my most recent video to share a Python Notebook and to share data; so I think it's a great tool; especially for data scientists
So helpful, thank you!

Hey Luke do you have videos showing each step you took to complete a case study/ Project?
I have a few videos on the beginning stages of a project, in a series on my home page… unfortunately I still haven’t finished that project… hopefully I get to it this year!
Thanks for the great content!
Random question, do you generally stand or sit at your desk?
I've noticed some other RUclipsrs that also appear to be using standing desks.
I'm assuming this is a thing for health reasons and maybe also focus, but might warrant a video re productivity / focus / efficiency. Thanks!
A combination actually.
1) Health reasons - generally I find that this is better than sitting and slouching all day
2) Energy levels - I feel I have higher energy levels when I work as I stand and don't tire as easily
Highly recommend trying it out!

How do we get a suitable dataset for the project? It would not be appropriate to use our work data as we may infringe on the privacy laws.
Correct. I would use your own self-curated data set or if that's an obstacle, maybe see if you can find an interesting dataset on line to use.

Hello Luke and thanks for all this information that you sharing with us!
I have a book about fitness training, not published yet, and I would like to know if you think will be a good idea to implement that as a project into portofilio.

Sir,please provide your advise on this:
i'm a student aspiring to become a data scientist. But i only know python as much as till looping and conditional statements.I also know the basics of pandas like reading dataframes and assigning that to a variable. But another youtuber said that if we need to become a data scientist,we must start working on data science projects ASAP and that we must learn whatever skills we require for that project along the way.But i saw a kaggler's end to end problem solution and nearly recieved a stroke as everything looked like Greek and Latin. Please suggest the appraoch that i shd take towards solving data science projects like how shd i go further with projects as i dont know much of the programming for them as well as how i shd be solving the projects. Also, how can i develop my skills in tensorflow, seaborn etc that are required to become a data scientist.
Hey my dude, it seems like you are on the correct path in your learning journey. As a data analysts, I may not be the best person to answer this as my route of learning tools for my job differ from that of a data anlaysts. I recommend you reach out to any of the other Data Scientist RUclipsrs as they may be able to provide better guidance. Overall though, you have to put in the time and effort, there are a lot of different paid and unpaid courses out there that are good options. Good luck my dude!

@@LukeBarousse Thank you very much for confirming! I was leaning to the same conclusion after some preliminary research as well!
I’m living for the photo of the panda being in the new video ♥️🤣 thank you Luke #LukesPanda

Hey Luke! I want to be a data analyst as well but I don't have a work experience. What should I do? because most of the companies ask for a work experience. Which skills should I start learning now? Mention everything please
Take a look at this video:
ruclips.net/video/fmLPS6FBbac/видео.html
Can I add the EDA by pyhton , I am learning in the resume? or should I mention the projects by taking new datasets from kaggle.
Yeah you can add certificates to your resume, but I strongly recommend including portfolio projects instead!
What can I do about job postings asking for "highest level of education" when I'm self taught and have graduated from an (unaccredited) online data science course? (Springboard data science career track)
I have some college but no degree
That's a tough one. Obviously i'd recommend you be honest and capture your self-taught education in other parts of the form. IMHO if a company only wants to hire someone based on having a certain degree and not taking into account experience and portfolio, I don't think I would want to work for said-company.
@@LukeBarousse that's government jobs Africa. They only care about degrees (don't even care where the degrees were obtained from). Some unscruplous folks just go ahead and PURCHASE said degrees. Shady universities in this business abound here.

@LukeBArousse : I am planing to make an analysis on a topic. But, if I don't get any data, do I have collect the data on my own?
For portfolio projects you'll need to collect your own data. When working for an employer they may provide you with data or you may be tasked with finding it yourself

Hi Luke can u please tell that from where we can learn tableau as a beginner to advanced.. Any online learning platform for that...
Haha

@@naim1029 Thanks for the sub! Appreciate the support!

DataCamp Certificate is a thing now?
To improve your skills in this field, yeah I feel so! It helped me develop skills that I use in my job regularly as a data analyst
Did you have a degree in data science or computer science originally?
My undergraduate degree is in engineering and I took some coding classes, but for my Masters I focused on business analytics, so that is where I started to pick up a lot of these things. Unfortunately I would say most of my data science skills were self-taught and my Masters just inspired me to branch out and learn it myself.

Yeah i'm a former mechanical engineer!
