That's because in some way it is! Never been to NY but the people seem to be more like us than anywhere else in the US.

Dutchie here. I have been to New York and for me it was also like coming home, because I still saw and felt so much old Dutch history there, so I guess it works both ways 🤗

Lovely video, I had a bike workshop like that for 10 years. As we didn't had to pay any rent we were able to work for donations.

This is a last piece of real old Amsterdam. The way people used to interact with each other. Not the overly luxurious elite that now lives in Amsterdam. No, ordinary people.
And that language! When I hear it, I hear my whole family talking again My father, my mother, myself :-) Real Amsterdam language.
It reminds me of a part of my youth around the Zeedijk/Nieuwmarkt. Where I had a lot of "aunts" who gave me a meatball when they had earned something. Great memories!

In my youth I went to the bicycle shop just to soak up the nostalgia, such a cozy and relaxing atmosphere hung there ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Time stood still in de Jordaan. This is how i remember my youth. I grew up in Amsterdam Oud West and visited de Jordaan regularly . If you want a taste of the real Amsterdam spirit, go to de Jordaan. You will not be disappointed.

When I went to university my brain could not work it out when I saw international students unable to use a bike propperly. Until the introductiondays I had never seen a healthy person older than 8 or so unable to control their bike.
They were sober and drove like toddlers, but without a parent telling them not to randomly drive on the other side of the road.🤯
If you can not control a bike and do not know/respect trafic rules, do not start start on busy streets. Some have found their death doing that.😅

Nowadays there are more and more electric bicycles and the old craft of bicycle repair is in danger of disappearing, which is a shame because this man is more than just a bicycle repairman...

Because of me a bicycle shop would go out of business. I have never brought any bicycle to such a shop. I do every little or big repair myself. And just like Frans I enjoy doing it.

It's to get inside without using a key. It was mostly used for the kids when they were playing outside. So when you tugged on the string it would open the door
