if it helps for those pissed by Cortana's turn from hero to villain, remember this: the REAL Cortana died at the end of Halo 4. she is gone. this is one of her Rampant fragments that was left over after the Didact's ship exploded. so this is just one of her fragments- the one with a lust for control and a strong affection for Chief- that is causing all of this trouble.

It'll probably end similar to Halo 3. Final battle with Cortana will take place in the Ring's main control center, and when you destroy her/delete her/whatever, the whole thing destabilizes, and the Arbiter & Chief must escape together once again. (They better team up anyway.) Maybe they can combine running, driving, and flying, too. Imagine if you had to fly a Banshee through several of the wide-open, deep areas and tunnels of the ring while everything collapses around you, then run on foot for a while until you reach a Warthog, and drive it out of the installation, across the fracturing surface world, and to your ship to escape. And it darn well better have an amazing remastering of the classic Halo theme to go along with it.
It probably won't be anywhere near that awesome, but one can hope!

I just came here from the Infinite trailer to see if I missed anything from the end of Halo 5, and now I'm just confused...
How the hell did Chief end up floating around in space!?
Infinite is set 2-3 years after Halo 5, many things could have happened during this time. My guess? Since Infinite looks like an Halo CE 2.0, I think that the UNSC Infinity reaches that Halo Ring but gets boarded by Cortana’s forces and badly damaged by a Guardian and lands on the Ring. During the fight aboard the ship Master Chief gets expelled in the space, and that marine you see in the trailer rescues him.

Halo: Bad Blood picks up from the rescue of Blue Team and shows how they got back to Sanghelios: Exuberant Witness led them to a crashed but still intact dropship that had been dragged to Genesis by a Guardian. The Monitor then opened a slipspace portal for them to Sanghelios so they could link back up with the Arbiter, Palmer and Halsey. The book confirms that Sanghelios ended up being blacked out too since Cortana sent a Guardian back there but Halsey managed to use the Forerunner technology in the area to briefly make contact with the Infinity and set up a rendezvous for the next morning. Until the Spartans showed up with that Pelican, they had no way to make that meeting since Palmer's ship was destroyed. Its mentioned in the book that the Chief and the Arbiter spent the night catching up before their departure the next morning and the Arbiter expressed confidence that they would triumph over the Created as they did the Covenant.

secretintrovert I wish I could agree with you, but even though the series has taken a completely different turn, it's Halo. And they've made a beautiful game in my opinion. Maybe not the same, and maybe not perfect. But I enjoyed playing the campaign. I think they fixed what they got wrong in Halo 4 to an extent. I actually share your opinion except about Halo 4. That ending was super anticlimactic though :(

When locke says "shes gone, sir" chief probably died a little inside because the two last wishes of sergeant Johnson were "send me out with a bang" and "don't ever lose her again" chief thought he lost Cortana after fighting the didact, then he got her back for a brief moment. Then he loses her again. This must be a big emotional blow to chief.

As for the flood, like I said, I'm pretty sure they're not coming back either. The only chance of that happening is if they're on the Halo shown at the end of this video. Some last vile of flood samples getting loose or something. But I also vagely remember an interview where 343i say they don't intend for the flood coming back, but that was before Halo 4 came out, so who knows where they stand on the subject now

Actually, 343 is the paragon of a fallen hero: Halo 4 was excellent. Then, they returned as bastards to make the abomination that is Halo 5.
+James Maxwell Halo 5 makes perfect sense for the Halo lore they are following. Halo isn't just about the rings. Bungies lore is just about the rings. Halo is about the forerunners (Prometheans) creating the flood. Because of this, the prophets want to use Halo to destroy the flood, causing to wipe out everything else. Elites finally learn of the lies and fight against the prophets alongside the UNSC. After defeating the prophets and flood, the forerunners return, with the Mantle. Which can possibly bring back sentiment flood forms. To finish what the originally planned to do. Control all Halo rings.

+Trisket Only works for the Halo it was designed for. This one is a new ring, where as the ring we saw in Halo 1 and 3 were of the same designation(04 I believe), thus the index worked for the 2.

Although, now that Cortana has a fleet of Guardians and hundreds if not thousands of Smart AI's at her beck and call, she probably possesses more than enough Forerunner technology and processing power to fabricate new Indexes. The Infinity is probably going to have to fly around gathering UNSC, Covenant and Sangheili warships together into a single fleet to fight against Cortana's Guardians Mass Effect 3 style.

She really did die. Remember at the end of halo 4 when she split the rampant parts of her into the didacts ship weapon thing? I feel like the good version of her that saved chief died, but the parts that split off were pulled into the forerunner systems and corrupted even more until it became this rampant thing that warden eternal made even worse.

Or I have a theory that the trailer with the Poncho and the Guardian coming out of the sand was actually a trailer for Halo 6, note chief's visor is cracked at the end of Guardians and we don't know if it gets fixed so it is safe to assume Chief does everything in his power to put cortana at bay back into her AI chip and stop her from firing the rings and re-seeding the Galaxy

I can't believe I'm saying this but 343's Cortana is a much better story than the original trilogy. Bungie teased that Cortana would go nucking futs rampant but that story didn't come to fruition; all we're all left with is a final boss fight with a crazy laser-spewing proto-Wheatley monitor.
With 343, we see more of the Spartans; Forerunners returning all pissed off; Arbiter's people & human fighting together; hints of Cortana's relationship with the "monster" Halsey etc. but more than anything, Cortana gradual development into a godlike Forerunner powered AI.
Hope to see Halo 6 sees her fall and redemption.

The story was good far changing it up a bit and tbh they kinda had to rush some of it because not only did they want to put new stuff in but they also wanted to bring back old characters, and how their lives have changed since halo 3 (I'm looking at you Arbiter and SoS) also they tried to tie it to the old story and sense everyone loved cortana they had to bring her back drone the dead but they still want to do something with her other than the sarcastic wife in john's head(I say this because most of the time she's either being sarcastic when something is sketchy or talking about how much she wants to be with John and feel what he is able to) not to mention this is the second game of the forerunner saga (1-3 was for flood, 4-6 is for forerunners,7-9 is supposed to be the reclaimer series of some sort where John does something to gain access over all forerunners or he learns some secret that ties him with the forerunners as being some sort of savior) so sure it wasn't what most people…

Halo: Bad Blood picks up from the rescue of Blue Team and shows how they got back to Sanghelios: Exuberant Witness led them to a crashed but still intact dropship that had been dragged to Genesis by a Guardian. The Monitor then opened a slipspace portal for them to Sanghelios so they could link back up with the Arbiter, Palmer and Halsey. The book confirms that Sanghelios ended up being blacked out too since Cortana sent a Guardian back there but Halsey managed to use the Forerunner technology in the area to briefly make contact with the Infinity and set up a rendezvous for the next morning. Until the Spartans showed up with that Pelican, they had no way to make that meeting since Palmer's ship was destroyed. Its mentioned in the book that the Chief and the Arbiter spent the night catching up before their departure the next morning and the Arbiter expressed confidence that they would triumph over the Created as they did the Covenant.

I got it for free just a while ago and I agree. The story was dumb I was skipping cutscenes because I just didn't care. Cortana should have stayed dead but I liked the new campaign system. I liked the 4 player cooperating team I just think it became kind of dumb when they randomly gave chief 3 guys. Team cooperation was much more fun and it had elements of L4D which I like. I think the multiplayer was still great and that especially with the new guns.
I wouldn't say a disappointment though, it was only as underwhelming as it was because it's the second in a trilogy. People were pissed off at Halo 2 for the same reason. Not to mention what a boost they gave to Forge. I wouldn't say it's a bad game, in fact I would say it's great but it's not as good as the others. I still had fun.

Here's a thought to keep you guys wondering. 343 guilty spark isn't exacly dead according to this wiki halo.wikia.com/wiki/343_Guilty_Spark and the way cortana hums is very similar to the way 343 hums... It's very possible 343 guilty spark is involved somehow...
+Me Of course It's from the Forerunner saga, Gulty Spark managed to commandeer a UNSC warship to go looking for the Librarian. He was irreparably damaged, so he uploaded himself into the ship. It is possible he could turn up in Halo 6. But if you find all of the hidden recordings in the campaign, there are messages which hint to the possibility of the Bornstellar/Iso-Didact returning. So it will be interesting to see what 343 does with Halo 6.

Best part is that there's literally no reason that would be anything other than the flood. It's a ring and if I recall correctly, During the forerunner v flood war. The forerunner's were completely overrun before resorting to using the rings. Which means that there's a high chance that there could be flood on all-if-not-most of the halo rings. Can't wait to see how the flood will look in the new engine for halo 6.

This entire game (and Halo 4 as well) was so hopelessly inferior in story to the previous Halo Trinity that I can hardly even understand. How could they make me care so little for Cortana, that her whole betrayal meant nothing - when Bungie introduced Noble Team and gave us a short time to spend with them all, but each one of their deaths felt massive? I just don't understand. Maybe it's just the level of craftsmanship.

I know I'm over a year late to this, but I'm going to answer anyway. John-117 was the first and greatest of the Spartan II candidates, the Spartan II's of course being the best Spartans created. In the book, the Fall of Reach, Halsey meets John as a young boy whom she can immediately tell is different from all the other children. Throughout the trials and training of the Spartan II program, John is determined to be the de facto leader. Eventually he would be the first Spartan to don the legendary Mjolnir armor coupled with Cortana, the ultimate end game of the Spartan II program; a super soldier augmented with the greatest power armor and AI making him the most lethal weapon on the battlefield. John-117 is undoubtedly the pinnacle of her work, but arguably even the pinnacle of humanity.
Spartan lls are the most well built of the Spartans. They were exceptionally strong to a point where most of them died in the process. Spartan lVs are basically the mass produce-able result, they were subjected to far less chemical and physiological changes than the lls.
I like the ending, I just hate the fact that we have to wait probably 3+ years to find out what will happen next in Halo 6.

@@kieraniverson590 Professor Anders disabled the firing mechanism on that Halo. And Cortana used the Index to activate Installation 4B in Halo 3.
Kieran Iverson except there's a high chance that Cortana has the logic plague from her time spent with the gravemind from the end of halo 2 to the end of halo 3. In-fact, it was heavily hinted upon throughout the game with the Gravemind's dialogue during flood sequences. So i think that Cortana's more likely to release any dormant flood than use the ring. Besides, what would she be able to rule over if she killed all life in the galaxy?
