Watching PBB is better than any Netflix series. I am invested in all their personalities. Ray is the quiet champ. Jono is the go-to common sense/outside-the-box guy (Arlo's protege). Jay is the comic relief, etc... Erik/Jamie, you guys hired the best supporting cast. Brock might just become a fan favorite (Thank you sir for this mega house journey). Truly amazing to watch PBB's growth! They are on FIRE!
They are so multi talented also it's hard to find guys that can lay block do trim frame roof do tile. I mean his crew builds from the ground up on some projects hard to find those kind of guys. They seem to have loyalty also. You get out of your crew what you invest in them.
The homeowners you work with must really appreciate that you guys always think things all the way through, from the perspective to what it would be like to actually live in the space. Great stuff!

Jay, think of blocking like putting the lid on a candle. If the fire can’t get oxygen, it won’t spread that direction. If it does oxygen from below the fire stop will keep the fire from climbing the walls.

I built a 14 ft long " basket" box that slides on to the forks. Built a shelf on the back to hold tools and materials. 4 ft deep with sides. It is a great time saver not to mention safer to work on than ladders and scaffold. It is awesome when it comes to shingles and roof tear offs. All demo goes onto the box. Drive it to the dumper, dump and back to work. You will ask yourself why not sooner.
Big thanks Erik for putting these videos together. Don’t know how you manage to build all day, do family stuff, get outdoors and editor hours of video, but this Aussie sure appreciates it. Carpenters here spend more time building with block and steel than wood so it is satisfying to see something so huge created from lumber…

Fire blocking is like putting a plug in a chimney. It prevents the fire from spreading by cutting off the airflow to the upper portions so that its less likely to spread upward. This is why they outlawed Baloon Framing for the most part because the single long studs allowed fire to travel up the entire wall.

I think he was just teasing with that one but as we know it's sometimes difficult to know with Jay. A bulldozer is a lot of fun. I grew up on a farm. Daddy got his tractor stuck once and had a dozer pull him out. He decided he had to buy one. He did. He let me and my younger brother operate the dozer. It was a lot of fun. The upkeep was expensive and he sold it after awhile.

Newsflash… if a decent fire breaks out in a timber framed building, blocking’s gonna burn anyway, it’s always about slowing the pace of the spread of the fire long enough to let people evacuate and stay alive.

On the interior walls below long spans, it is good to add a header or sheathed the walls to prevent the drywall from cracking at the ends of openings. Even though the walls are not load bearing, there is still vertical movement from the trusses that causes cracks in the drywall at openings.

You squat, put your hands out as the tank lumbers toward you...let it push you over and let the tank roll over you. Then you dig a ditch, put some blankets on top and let the tank actually roll over you and you can feel the pressure and the rumble/shaking. When you get that close to a tank, your lizzid brain kicks in and some people have a real hard time with it.

Fire blocks in framing: framing without fire blocks or fire stops is “balloon framing” which enables your house to burn to the ground in much, much less time. For fire fighters, it meant you’d think you were close to getting the fire under control and then the ceiling above you collapsed on your heads or the first floor fire was quickly becoming an attic fire.
I bought the milwaukee weed eater and I decided to get a gas. The battery terminals overheat very easily. You can't really push it for very long. I get maybe 30 square feet before it goes into overheat protection. I might use it for light work in the future.
Eric, get your dad the brush trimming attachment for the m18 and it comes with a shoulder strap. I’ve been using that weedeater for years and the strap makes a huge fatigue difference.

24:32 The foam cutting blades they sell for jigsaws are awesome when it comes to cutting it, and they don't create foam dust.
