Tom Waits has to be one of the most underrated artists of the 20th century. His sales aren't relative to his popularity on this medium. He is a great storyteller and his vocal delivery really touches you. Add to that the fact he composes his own music and he wrote his first two albums so song. He has to be one of the most consistently good artists of all time!
Mine too, perhaps. Love the way Tom sings the countryside life. I moved from countryside to City and discovered Waits, real city life music, Swordfishtrombones, Blue Valentines, Rain Dogs, And that was my music. Lately, I start longing to the countryside, make the move again, Like Tom did. Waits's lyrics are very strong, Bob Dylan level, for sure. And this must be the most beautiful Love/Hate song ever made.(..."I fell in love withe your sailor's moth and your wounded eyes, but you better get down on the floor, don't you know this is war?!...")
i first heard bone machine in a 1992 pub lock in ,in london where everyone was on lsd and sitting by a roaring open fire and the tripping landlord put on the "new album by tom waits!"i nearly cried when this song came on ,on never hearing him before ,this man with the grittiest sad voice i fell in love with that night ,easily one of the greatest songwriters in our history!xx
The Part You Throw Away and Who Are You are maybe his more moving songs for me. Waits manages to be touching and makes you think, at the same time. One of the most interesting artist we have. Couldn't care less if he could or should sell more. It happens quite often that, some of the best musicians and writers are known and loved not by masses, but by loyal circles of people who feel touched by their music lyrics or books. Think he never tried to be a massive seller. He is happy with his promotion and profile. And find the whole a clever one. It answers to the image he built of himself. ❤️👍😇🙏
FB says I've been listening to this 9 years ago. Ah, those times. Rarely you meet a person who is one just as Tom so aptly describes, but it fits her perfectly. She is still pretending to love.
Великий музыкант, по неведомой причине обделенный славой. Хотя, наверное это даже к лучшему, ведь если бы про дядю Тома знали все, то он был бы не только твоим другом
This is a beautiful song in its honesty, David Rodgers. It reminds me that murder victims are probably often as responsible as the killers. It reminds me of my marriage, my sister, or myself. There are all kinds of reasons for wearing a mask. I hope to never be in a situation where I feel that I must to get by.
It's a bitter song about heartbreak and regret and not being able to let go of someone. The person speaking is clearly has strong feelings for this woman still (though probably no longer in love) but he's saying awful things about her, describing her as a two-faced insincere whore.
hey tom it`s ME! * REMEMBER * YOUR NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR FROM WELL WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY BACK * YOU ALWAYS USED TO THROW LITTLE STONES OVER THE HEDGE AND SAID SOMETHING LIKE ""PLEUR NOU EENS OP ZEIKVENTJE!!"" WHILE I WAS THERE STUDING YOU FROM THE BALCONY WITH SOME KIND OF MAGNIFYING CLASS * STUDING YOUR VOODOO RITUALS IN A MOST PECU;AIR WAY * "' IS THAT REALLY VOODOO?'''' OR SHOULD WE WAIT TO LET THE CHICKEN FLY FROM THE POT BEFORE WE SAY C U C K O O and the one to come that is insanely mad later on. CCUUCCKKOOOOOO 1!!!
This is abstract. I don't really here a verse verse bridge chorus. It's not his traditional blues/jazz. It's something else, I've not heard anything like it. It's weird also, I can see why he is an inspiration to the likes of Claypool. It's a touching, scathing number
Its acctualy from a man about a cheating whore...Men dont pretend to love, women do. Look any romantic movie women love...the plot is the same, women cheats on a "lesser" guy in the movie for her "one true love" so think before you say shit like that again
This just reminds me that all we hear on tv now with the adele, the kathy, the one direction etc... well they're ok until you hear something like tom waits, the ramones, talking heads, nirvana, elliott smith.. then you ask yourself how come those type of guys aren't on tv? Why do they show mediocrity, disney-compatible stuff? And why do all those second-rate artists all sound the same? And who decides how they sound? Tto those who feel what I am saying, I say let's turn off our tvs, radios etc. I don't like being treated like that way.
senglorama Amen, they tell the brainless what to love/enjoy. we know better, we have graduated from the school of higher education known as Tom Waits University. Where heart break and misery and laughter walk hand in hand, we are the truly lucky ones because we still feel what's real and meaningful. these other people are delusional and I really don't want to join the world that they believe in. it's a false and unfeeling place, where the only one who matters is one's self. true soul and heart ache comes from loving someone more than yourself, and that's what sets Tom and his truest fans apart from the rest of the world. God bless you true people of feeling and love and sorrow. God smiles on hearts like ours.

Bone Machine is my favorite album by Waits, and this my favorite track. It haunts me still, nearly 25 years later from first hearing it.
This man knows pain and almost sings like the knife is being held to this gut. Sublime artist.
This has to be my favorite Tom Waits songs. Bone Machine is a damned good album.

Only hurt can cause this level of blame through this whole song...
Bone Machine is one helluva good album . Who Are You is my favourite song from the album . Waits at his lyrical , acerbic best .

Are you still jumping out of Windows in expensive clothes......Love you Tom...❤
I love this song, its my favorite of his. Its great for whenever I get sad or upset, when people are jerks.
I fucking love this song. Keep coming back for no apparent reason.
Like 10 years later this song still kills me. I’ll never love another, and I’ll never understand why
This song completely describe my life. Genius songwriter!
There would seem to be no better love/hate song than this. Period.

top 5 Tom Waits songs ...Bone Machine is one of his best for sure.
Bone mashine is the best. Not one of.
One of, if not the greatest record of all time
"How do your pistol and bible and your sleeping pills go"
This albulm album rocks. I love Tom Waits
And then to follow it up with, "Are you still jumping out of windows/In expensive clothes..." The man breathes fire.
Tom Waits writes the best Heartbreak songs ...
Hard to argue but I'd put Randy Newman in there too.
Yeah it's amazing he sounds like he has had a dozen torrid love affairs but he has actually just been married to the same woman for 40 years.
Always Tom...who else ?
Lovely. And bitter. And everything else that gives you goosebumps.
thanks a lot for sharing the not-so easy to get lyrics, that's a little act of love to all the non-english speaking tom waits fans as me
peace

sadly beautiful ... 💞💞
This is for his daughter. She is amazing!
So beautiful
So few views for this masterpiece? To think Tom wrote this when over forty!
Over a year later, and I still can't forget that girl..
masterpiece
Well I fell in love with your sailor's mouth and your wounded eyes. Who the fuck writes such brilliance?? Tom fuckin Waits--thats who! 🤩
Bitter tears like some times they call "hi ho whiskey..."
Did anyone else get the ad for Cruella beginning with the line 'Who are you?' Is Disney really all that powerful?
The one down thumb was from the person he wrote this about...
the person is still jumping out of windows in expensive clothes

No, I thumbed it upways.
..you're welcome man..thanks for the kind words..enjoy!!
This song to me has a deeper meaning sort of pertaining to all the deciet , lies and trickery put apon us by the powers that be.
unique and great.
So apt for a heartbreak of mine. Two damaged lovers in the last century.
SUPER
Tom waits.remind me to my ex he uesd to love all he's songs.
tom is mumber 1
goosebumps
I dont remember why I bought all these spaghetti strainers
I’ve been a lifelong Waits fan, I’m having trouble deciphering the meaning of this son. May someone explain it to me?

Can the typical tantalizing Tom ever sing calmly evenly quietly about NOTHING!? hhhh

Wow
Maior que o mundo...
He's channeling Bruce Springsteen here.
Except for the voice Bruce does not even come close on any level (despite his mainstream popularity)
It's not cricket, nor tennis, c'est song writing, delivery tout ça,
No contest.
Tom sublime.
Or the other way round. They seem to channel each other at times without knowing.
Does this sound like the river by bruce springsteen or is it just me?
Just you

agreed. pure poetry
this song is written from the woman's perspective.that's why is beautiful.
Its acctualy from a man about a cheating whore...Men dont pretend to love, women do. Look any romantic movie women love...the plot is the same, women cheats on a "lesser" guy in the movie for her "one true love" so think before you say shit like that again
On what planet?
>>
Men dont pretend to love, women do
Well that's a lie, lol.
Why throwing shit on the fan?
Read the lyrics.
@@jHeyJude Billy Pilgrim'd know.

The most swimmers are in shallow water...
Damn, we'll said!
On the main building of Tom Waits U. is the school's motto: "Experience Is What You Get Just After You Needed It"
not as copesetic
