Them wearing feminine clothing isn't what's disgusting. What's disgusting is that they fetishize feminity because they associate it with fragility, submissiveness, innocence, etc.... The gender stereotypes that come with femininity (which is a social construct) are very restrictive and harmful to women, yet for these men, it's a turn on. I personally find it very insulting.

Interesting perspective. It would be nice if men could dress in stereotypically feminine ways without it signaling anything but an enjoyment of that way of dressing. That is something women are a bit freer to play with- dressing in stereotypically masculine clothing seems to be more generally acceptable, less an oddity. Well, I suppose I'm speaking very much from the perspective of someone in the U.S.- I imagine three are plenty of places where a women dressing as a man would be shocking, and decried by society as well...
Why it should matter so much to people not involved in their lives is a bit baffling...
With all the troubles in the world, why not allow people some harmless happiness?

I wear women's clothes sometimes, but never had a desire to look super feminine. Sure, I will wear a woman's sweater, jewelry, scarves, jeans, or tennis shoes, but have no desire to wear a dress or high heels or wear any shirt that clearly looks like a woman's shirt. I only wear an article of women's clothing if I find it tasteful and suits my body type. I don't look like a transvestite or drag queen when I wear my clothing items and don't get off on wearing feminine items.

    • @Billybloop
      @Billybloop 4 года назад +1

The larger ones likely shop plus size and tall like bigger and taller women do.
Not all men are huge. My husband wears a men's medium and I wear a woman's L or XL and I'm too big to fit into all his clothes. When I wear men's/unisex clothes I'm also a L or XL.
There isn't a lot of difference in the sizing of men's vs women's clothing, just the fit is different and women's pants tend to be shorter. Also if you are talking about how men wear their pants the rise tends to be lower.

I found this gent's insights into the phenomenon of transvestism crazy making because he limites his evaluations entirely within the British cultural context. Cross dressing and transexualism isn't predominantly a British thing, a Western European thing, an American thing . . . ad nauseum. I would have valued his candor and exploration so much more if he'd broadened his perspective to the pretty much global and all too human aspect all these variations are.

You seem to have a negative feeling towards transgender/transexual women. Being transgender is very different than being a transvestite. You stated that you still enjoy being a man. As a transgender woman, I've never been comfortable as the male gender. I have gender dysphoria. Obviously, you do not have gender dysphoria. I also realize that I have embraced the American traditional role as a feminine woman, but that's the culture I was raised in and I feel comfortable in that role. Some of my transgender female friends are more masculine and have a more tom boyish role, but nonetheless, they feel living as a full female is more natural to them than living as male. Some trans women feel the need to have the gender reassignment surgery due to truly feeling female (Gender Dysphoria)...You may never understand that. But it's real and it's been very healing emotionally and mentally to many trans people.

You are so right, less is more though I have a theory on why these men tend to go overboard. My guess is that because they suppressed their desire to crossdress for so long, when they finally get the courage to do it, they try to mimic the way young women do their makeup because they think it's the highest form of stereotypical beauty but they don't understand that it just doesn't look too flattering on them in their maturer age. It's also the same reason why they may wear dresses/outfits that don't flatter their body much.
If they accepted crossdressing when they were younger, the lots of makeup look wouldn't look as discerning so it's better to just try to go for the minimalist look.

Some believe that the condition known as post-partum depression after the birth of a son may have exposed the male fetus to an estrogen bath doing the third trimester of his mother's pregnancy.
Since post-partum depression is caused by an extreme hormone imbalance in the mother it would seem to make sense to me.

It's justified. Some of the men in this documentary only resort to femininity as a fetish. It gives them a kick. It has nothing to do with being transsexual. It's interesting that the narrator mentions that cross-dressers are the last true Victorian women and that only THEY get the symbolic meaning behind women's clothes. What on earth is this symbolic meaning? A lot of Victorian women's clothing was awfully restrictive. It just shows that they (consciously/unconsciously) see feminity as subordinate to masculinity and that's a turn on for them. The dude keeps talking about dresses symbolizing fragility, submissiveness, innocence, etc.... As a woman I find this offensive and nauseauting.

Ummm.... W0t? Transvestites are great in my book, but this particular guy is EXTREMELY judgmental and uneducated about the lives of trans people and gender dysphoria. It was as though he was projecting all the hate he gets as a transvestite and passing it off to the transgender woman. Can you be any more insensitive? Just to put context, the documentary is from 2004. Does it excuse it? Not really. I cringed a lot a this part (and some others too) too personally, and problematic views are and will always be problematic. But the landscape of trans sensibilisation in the last 15 years is overwhelmingly different. Generally Perry does a great work of bringing people of different background together, that's what all of his body of work as an artist and public figure is about, especially around toxic masculinity and classism. I won't bother trying to tell you he is great, you make your own mind, but at the best maybe you can be glad that so much work have been done since then that would prevent any missteps like those. It mind sounds surprising to some people, but sometimes, people genuinly grow out of problematic views and feeling, and more and more do so thanks to the work done.

If my husband came home tomorrow and said he wanted to dress like a woman I would be fine with that I would be a little concerned if he did it when we were out in public because I know what ridicule he would face in this world is really in bad shape right now and people would kill another human being over something like that. I think people are, Individuals with individual likes dislikes and I think they should be able to express themselves. What are our clothes anyway but coverings to cover our naked bodies. I don’t get it, just because you “feel something is there” it doesn’t mean you have to act on it. There’s lots of things people FEEL but don’t do because it’s immoral, inconsiderate and selfish behavior.
These men are narcissists in that they prioritize their own fetish over their families. I highly doubt there’s a single wife, daughter or son who is comfortable with their husband or dad dressing as a woman because he can’t control his sexual desires. Maybe if they themselves are degenerate, but a vast majority would disapprove.
Commitment to marriage and family involves sacrifice. We ALL have desires and fantasies of different types (like sleeping with someone outside of your marriage) that doesn’t mean we ACT on it, hopefully we have enough integrity not to. This is worse than cheating in that it’s a lot more public, especially considering they are participating in this documentary.
These men act so entitled, as if it’s a compulsion that they can’t resist. That’s a complete cop out and an excuse for their selfishness. Not only that, they look nothing like real women. They look like ridiculous perverts and degenerates. Disgusting!

I think he touches on it here. Men in history did not Need to, as their clothes were sometimes even more extravagant than women' s (Upper class males of course. Nothing changes for the serfs) Take a look at European courts through the Ages It is only when we reach the 19th century that men have to dress literally like Dummies. Humans are one of the few species where the males are actually drabber than the females. Usually they get the bling, while the female is some drab little brown thing in a corner. BUT it means they are actually more powerful. They get to choose which peacock (sometimes literally)
From a purely fashion point of view, modern dress has to be the most drab, uninventive and boring Ever. Hoodies (Yawn) And everyone looks the same. Male, female, no one cares about making a statement any more. Says a lot about the current state of humanity. Lets be part of the unthinking herd. It's easier.

Simple answer, they don't dress for their age because they feel like they missed out dressing femininely in their youth and try to make up for lost time but unfortunately, they don't realize that it just doesn't look good on them. They could still look feminine dressing their age while still being stylish. They need to take advice/style tips from older women.

    Men wear dresses because:
    - they are comfortable
    - they are cool in summer
    - in Scotland they are called Kilts and it is the national costume
    - in ancient times everyone wore something akin to dresses, because trousers hadnt yet been invented

    - they are dress designers and are modeling their own creations.
