- Feature highlighting the 2004 Uncle Earl's Hog Dog Trials. The annual hog-dog baying event is held the third weekend in March in Winnfield, La. The video depicts the people, animals and history related to this event which began back in 1994. Shot, written and produced by Bill Sherman.
This kind of reminds of the movie "Ole Yeller." The Famous Hog Wrangling Dog. Good movie! I wish they would do a modern remake of the movie.

By that logic, everyone who calls a human an "innocent creature" probably doesn't know a damn thing about it. In fact, humans kill annualy thousands of boards, yet boars only kill two or three persons per decade at most. Dogs kill more people than boards.

I can only add I went to this event one time for maybe 30 minutes.
After I saw the pig coming down the chute hesitantly and getting beaten half to death I was done.

when I was stationed in California I went boar hunting a few times,and a sgt I worked with said when he was stationed in Hawaii they hunted boar with pit bulls and 45 caliber pistols.
Nice vid. Anyone have some links or so to techniques for training Bay Dogs ? Where I live we are not allowed to transport live feral hogs unless licensed. So I am thinking I may have to train 'em on a farm shoat. However I know they need that scent training. Help!!! I have 2 Kemmer Mt. Curs about 5 months old and a Catahoula about 6 months old. I got them solely for hoggin.

They banned bay pen bayings in Fl. They tried having it on the reservations. Didn't work but you can have a bay pen on your property for hog dog training. Does that help?

I was at an old sports shop that had a pen with a black bear and a pen with real Russian boar imported to WV. There is no feral in these pigs. Real wild boar. Well anyway those dogs would just tear the fur off that black bear. When it came time for the boar they were having to drag dogs out of those cages.

You are right...the other day I was out walking my hog and I just happened to pass Big Boys....oh man...I'm so sad now...my hog found out they serve bacon there...he was in total break down panic...and sobbing....I had to pick him up and race him to a safe place....he will never be the same...they are just racist....and hog haters....I bought him a coloring book and he now has a support dog that he feels comfort in...kind of ironic ...the dog thing...but as I say...love is love..love trumps dogs.....hope and change......lmao.....stupid children.....

This is all well and good, but working bulldogs (APBTs) are the dogs to have when one is actually hunting. There is no need for a bay dog when you have bulldogs. Bulldogs will track down, chase down, and bring down large game. It is what they were bred to do. They are an all-around farming and hunting dog usually for large game, but they are also commonly used for getting rid of vermin. Baying events like these are okay, but we all know that the gripping dogs really brings home the bacon.

To anyone saying "oh this is disgusting and shameful!" hogs are pests. To kill hogs and keep dogs healthy and their instincts strong is a win win. Plus, you can eat hog sausage as well. Most of y'all don't know squat about hunting.

Maybe in America but here in Australia hunting is a necessity, introduced feral species devastate our native species. Killing 1 fox can save hundreds of lives, shooting a pig can save the water and food supply for hundreds more !
