    As a longtime AC DC fan, I always loved Angus and Brian as a duo. However, after I started playing guitar back in the early 2000's I realized after a while that Malcolm's riff writing and rhythm work was the engine that made the car go. Those riffs are so simple but totally cool. RIP Malcolm Young.

      As a band they BOTH played the rhythm guitar parts in time with Angus also playing the addition of lead. The rhythm would often be different chord variations in the same key or chord shapes in the same key,..but an equal rhythm contribution was made until a solo was played.

    The solo to Shake a Leg gives me goosebumps to this day. They're the only band I've seen live, got to see them on the Black Ice Tour in 2008 in Melbourne. My dad and I drive 4 hours to the city after work for a night show, the whole band absolutely KILLED it. Angus was mental for the entire show running flat out, spinning everywhere for a 30 min or more solo. We got home at 3am and and I had to go to work at 6am. Couldn't hear properly for about 2 weeks, they were so loud but by God it is one of my favourite music memories.

      So glad you got to see them and with Malcom! I wish I could’ve seen em with Bon but AC/DC was my first concert when I was 12 a long time ago, the For Those About to Rock tour! 1981 at Madison Square Garden-39 freakin years ago! When they came out I felt like I was seeing God! Was my favorite band then and still is! That’s around the same time I was able to buy my tobacco burst SG with lawn cutting money and some help from Mom. Two years later I was able to plug it into my 50w JCM800. Had to settle for the 50w Marshall but it was more than adequate! Still play both today but rarely get to play louder than 2...LOL!
      Lookin so forward to their new album and hope to God I’ll be taking my kids to see them at the Garden some time in 2021!🤘🏼⚡️🤘🏼

      Ill help you out with this now.
      Minor pentatonic stuff
      Play in keys where one of the open strings is the root note of at least one of the minor scales in that key. Let that open string ring out while you create melodies with the aforementioned minor scales.
      Play power chords with the root note on pretty much any note in those minor scales to create riffs.
      Do not be afraid of dissonance, but don’t go full death metal. just the odd diminished lick will do.
      Lean hard on minor thirds
      Stay away from major thirds
      You can get a little more classic rock esque with your rhythms every once in a while (think the verse of war pigs)
      Fool around with octaves a little bit
      That’s about it, just follow those rules and use your brain a bit and you should be there in no time.

There were a big row of 18 wheelers. I met Angus between two trucks. The guy was tiny. We chain smoked cigarettes for about 20 minutes. Angus was so cool. Inside when the show started. The sound was so loud. Sounded just like the cassette. No cds back then. When the show started. Angus was either skipping running spinning on his side all while head banging the entire show. He was not still the entire time. His solo started. There was ramps on each side. He would run hard to the edge and stop. He never missed a lick either. All of a sudden he was running in the rafters. Without missing a like either. Then some how he showed up on a platform in the back below the giant bell. The show was awesome. He isn't a fake. You know how some celebs seem to be cool down to earth. You meet them . Yes. Well Angus is just one of the guys. If you didn't know he was famous when you met him. I can teach somebody to repair a bike while calling a wrench a screwdriver and a gasket a sock, but for the person who is learning it and wants to go buy tools or spare parts later or talk about it with somebody else, it does help a bit if I call it a wrench and a gasket.

    I was in high school back in the mid 80's and concerts were my passion. I was seeing 3 shows a week. I saw ACDC in Market Square Arena on their Fly on the Wall tour. I knew from past experience that most bands that played MSA stayed at the Hyatt Regency and after the show me and my buddy would head there to try and see them. I always carried a white and black permanent marker with me and I would wear the concert t-shirt from that show. We see Angus on the 4th floor vending machine wolfing down a Coke and a Hershey chocolate bar. He watched us approach and I thought he was just going to turn and leave. But he stood their in his sweatpants and I told him we had just saw him perform. I asked if he would sign my shirt, he just smiled and took my white marker and signed the back while I was wearing it. I thanked him and he just smiled and nodded. I never heard him utter a sound. I thought "what a cool guy" until the hotel security came 5 minutes later and told us that a guest had complained about us. It had to be Angus. Or, he said something to one of his crew who then called security. Either way, that's my Angus story. I saw them four times total.

    Wishlist for Habits series:
    Synyster Gates
    Polyphia boys
    Marty Friedman

    • @alexeypolevoybass
      @alexeypolevoybass 3 года назад

      Polyphia… Why all the hype? Guys definitely can play, but their music… I think they often forget what rhythm and melody are. Maybe I'm not elitist enough yet to truly and sincerely understand the Outstanding Cultural Value™ of their stuff, but for me, it's mostly atonal garbage trying to sound edgy. There's a lot of progressive/math/whatever-metal acts who write superior music, but it's some rich kids who get all the attention. That's just fucking unfair. I mean, they work really hard and deserve most of what they've got now, but Polyphia is still randomish synth rock, and there are much better composers who aren't known that well.
      Synyster Gates… He's a fucking joke as a guitar player. Look up his real, unedited videos, you'll understand what I talk about.
      Marty Friedman is, however, particularly interesting because of his “alien” picking hand posture which doesn't affect his playing in a bad way.

    • @Dreager141
      @Dreager141 3 года назад

      @@alexeypolevoybass wow dude, almost everything you said was completely wrong, impressive.
      first of all, Polyphia: now it may just be because i’m younger or more impressionable but i really enjoy their music because of how diverse it is, they started in like a more shred focused metal genre and have slowly moved into the Low-gain, math rock genre, but it isn’t math rock obviously because it’s all in 4/4 timing. Their technical skill is out of this world and their composition, while not traditional, is actually really good and nice to listen to.
      now I don’t know what videos you’ve been watching of Synyster, but his playing is some of the cleanest, most technically sound stuff I’ve ever seen. Look up his masterclass, or live videos of the band. Now obviously it depends on what era of the band you’re looking at, obviously back in the day he was more sloppy and reckless because that’s just how they were as a band. But nowadays he’s one of the most melodically gifted guitarists out there who still manages to shred. He studied Jazz/fusion in college and has a great amount of theory knowledge, his father was a studio guitarist who played with the likes of Frank Zappa. I don’t know how you could say that he’s a joke when he’s one of the people that are keeping shred guitar alive right now.
