I'm a pianist, so most of my videos don't involve speaking. When I'm live streaming I'll have to make more of an effort to tell stories in between songs! Thanks!
I watched your last video "What if McCoy Tyner played Bobby Timmons' "This Here"?", I have no idea who they are yet I still enjoyed your performance. You may not need to talk to have a story, I was already looking at your place, clothes, piano and everything in sight to try form a story in my head. Who are you? Why are you playing this? Is there anything that is trying to give me more information? Are you going to look at camera or do any movements to convey some special moment in the music? You already hinted at a story in your title but as a casual viewer there was no payoff for me. After reading your description I'd like to experience through your knowledge how it is to know these musicians. Your description directly made me think of having examples of the styles from both of them, then the combination. Maybe even a transition from one style to another. Also watched "Ugetsu (Fantasy in D) by Cedar Walton | Pamela York" because it was the most popular but relatively recent video which I also enjoyed (I may go into a jazz listening spree now) and even when there is no story there are some facial expressions and interactions between performers and a tiny twist at the end when there was applause. I had no idea there was a live audience, I would have liked a few more seconds at the end to see the musicians reactions. Anyway, I'm no expert, consider this the view of an external observer. Have a great day Pamela!
@@alejolab Thanks so much for your feedback and interesting perspective! Those are great ideas. While music can tell a story from the mood and feelings of a particular piece, I will definitely give my videos more thought so I can engage more viewers who do not necessarily have a background in jazz music. I'm learning something new about making videos every day. Again, thanks for taking the time to give such a thoughful comment.
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing your story. I was also a teacher for 15 years. Around 5 years ago I had 3 spinal surgeries (when you hear your neurosurgeon say there’s a risk of paralysis from the neck down that is scary). After my second surgery I decided to leave teaching and pursue my two passions. I am a former two time world kickboxing champion, I should have mentioned that earlier. Anyway. I started a martial arts school and I became an artist. The absolute best decision of my life. Fast forward to today and my life is completely changed. I get to teach martial arts to an incredible bunch of people and I get to push myself creatively and paint and draw in my studio every single day. Life is good.
My channel gained 95 subs in 3 months. Sometimes I feel to quit as most usually my videos don't get views as I expect. But still I am gonna Hardwork, Hardwork and even more so that oneday We will reach there. Believe me.😃
You don't need to have hours and hours of editing to have a good video Like You can record about 10 minutes straight, without cutting anything, without adding anything, just adding some visual or sound elements to enhance what you recorded. What is really important for a quality video is the heart, the way the content is presented, my first video will be about the story of a game that thousands of people have already talked about, but I want to do it my way, my vision of the story, something I wish someone would have done in such a way, my favorite RUclipsrs are amazing at what they do, but there are some things that I think could be done differently, and that's what I want to do, it's not my goal to be better than them, far from it, I just want to be inspired by what I like about them and do it my way
Thanks VidIQ you made my IQ from -999 to 99 IQ Thanks waiting for my IQ to turn 999 with all You vids Idea. Edit : Hope one day i can reach the big long tree that my friends are waiting for me to come up.
Great job practicing what you preach on this video! Thanks for teaching the storytelling by storytelling :) I’m also a teacher looking to tell stories for kids with my kids. I’m at the beginning and I love this communities can do attitude!
Very inspiring. I've tried to do voice over countless times but it just wasn't working. There times i had a very good story to tell about how i come up with some of the styles etc and show some funny moments in my videos but this is challenging. Challenging because whenever I record, I sound like i'm reading the story(which i am 🙂 ) It doesn't make it interesting to me so I just had to put it aside; trying to come up with other ways to incorporate those funny moments into the videos without talking.
Oh I had that same problem too. When I listened to myself, found out I was tone deaf lol. I also learned I have an awful voice. I'd never make it as a narrator. Gave up that part. I also have breathing issues, so that doesn't help either. Nobody likes hearing heavy breathing or a lot of pauses, but it can't be helped.
@@Matrix2Strata017 ikr... the most challenging part of being a content creator, to me, is story telling. I really applaud those who do it 'effortlessly'.. Deep down i know it's doable and ' i hate being beaten down in my own game'.. I don't want to completely give up just yet; one can always employ someone to do the story telling.
I met Tim at People of Video in 2022, and we had a couple of 1:1 chats in between speaker sessions. I couldn't believe how helpful he was trying to be in this casual setting, and a lot of what we talked about really had me think deeply about how I was packaging and putting together my videos. So, Tim, if you see this, you've had an impact on me!
I love this. I am a spontaneous person. If ever I have an opportunity I would grab it and see how it goes. I am so glad it all work out for you Rob. What an incredible journey 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
While I haven't gone full-time yet, I have recently incorporated, opened a business account and began that journey. Maybe another year, maybe two as long as my subscribers continue to double every year, or dare I say, grow even faster.
What goes around comes around, you appreciate the man who taught you something, and everyone "I am one of them" appreciates what you taught them. I've been watching you for two years now, and still remember when I was under 1000 Sub and you said this "Practice Patience" so, I said yes this is what I need to hear, two weeks after, my video got 100 K View (now this video is 1.6 M) and still my channel is about ups and downs but I always remember this " Practice Patience" and 100s of things you have said it with sincerity Rob. Thanks for everything. Greetings from Egypt.
I’ve been on RUclips since 2007 - I was at one point partnered on RUclips and sponsored by Machinima Respawn. I was only 15 at the time of being monetized back then, I’m now 26. That was my first time ever making money on RUclips, but it certainly won’t be my last! Your channel and the other incredible creators that give out these tips, while spreading a message of love and inspiration.. it’s absolutely priceless. I have been acquiring thousands of dollars worth of equipment since the covid outbreak, which is when I decided I’m going to start studying RUclips for the next few years, and see if I can plan out my vision. Low-key I always wanted to be a RUclipsr. I just never really committed properly.. I now plan to create a plethora of channels, specifically targeted to all the things I’m good at and could potentially help people with. Some will also be entertainment based and faceless. But, a huge importance is creating genuinely good and quality content; therefore, I will use the aid of AI tools and not outsource from anyone, but myself beyond that. Affiliate marketing, drop shipping, print on demand and eventually the YPP.. all combined will bring in hopefully enough money to where I can do the same, by quitting my job and focusing in on improving my content and channels. One upload at a time. I am extremely excited to give this a shot, my mom is even on board and wants to make a few channels herself. Thank you again for the sacrifices and commitment you made, to get to where you are today. I’m glad it paid off - you deserve it and all the creators that really put their heart into this. To everyone: I believe in YOU. 🖤
My story is: I started RUclips back in 2017 wanting to be a minecraft skit channel, but the more attempts I made, the more difficult it was to do. I did a couple of gaming videos too, and they did ok, but I tried pushing the minecraft skits more, but it never worked. The thing is: I realized that people probably like watching other creators play video games more than minecraft skits. It did upset me, but I feel I am doing ok at the moment with gaming videos. I’ve always loved playing video games my whole life, and I would love to show the world how much I love playing video games.
I’ve decided to dig in and start posting consistently… My videos may not be the best but they are getting out there and I’m learning. Just hit 300 subs and so excited 🎉
My story goes like this.. I've been into gaming my while life and a couple of years ago I wanted to get into streaming, I bought a pc and a had a logo made and then agonised on the the fact my set up wasn't perfect. I but a gaming studio, built another 2 pcs and got my set up to the standard I always wanted, I eventually starting streaming 2 months ago and making videos on games I enjoy playing... I don't upload stuff as I'm a perfectionist and feel I haven't got the right editing skills and therefore feel my videos won't do well... I put alot of time and passion into a short that I made public a couple of days ago and it tanked... my confidence has taken a hit. I love live streaming and building a community (for me that's the best part) but right now I'm a bit lost and unsure of the direction of the channel or what to do next. That's where I'm at right now
I remember watching one of your how to record your iphone screen videos from back in the day when I first started my channel back in 2017 and it's crazy I'm watching your content.
I think I kinda get storytelling to a certain extent, especially when I realize it doesn’t have a specific format. I just imagine it like a labyrinth where you have to reach the end but there’s difficulty on your way there. The payoff is reaching the end of the labyrinth regardless of how difficult it was to make it. My problem is that I just don’t see what people do as realistic. Like an awesome shot video with dramatic turns and conflicts can be and probably is cool, but if I feel it’s been forced then I don’t feel motivation to watch it. But yeah, that’s just me wanting to think that it has to be realistic and maybe it doesn’t, it just has to be entertaining (?)
This was a great video man! I always enjoy you content but to be honest i often do skip around and lower your average view percentage, however you told a great story that kept me interested in you as a person. took me half the video to realize you were leading by example here. awesome job!
I’d like to use storytelling in my videos. I have a watch review channel: actually more than that … watch collecting strategies, working on watches and more. I need to figure out how to use storytelling when doing reviews. I need to learn how to hook viewers early without giving all the information immediately and while telling a story. I need advice.
Totally a great topic. Stories are what we all live for and through. From the cavemen over a campfire to Netflix dominance. No matter the topic…everyone relates to a good story. Here’s to improving our storytelling. 🥂
Guys it will get easier, I started of getting no views or nothing and I gave up for a while and came back an redone My whole channel and I got loads more view guys just keep trying dont give up
This insightful video reveals the crucial strategy that can help aspiring RUclipsrs thrive and achieve success, providing valuable tips and techniques to stand out and excel in the competitive RUclips landscape
I recently got a copyright strike on my channel. Two of my videos were removed from RUclips. But the problem now is that am no longer having views on my newly uploaded videos. Could the low views be because of the copyright strike?
I don't even have 1000 subscribers yet and have been uploading clips and videos to youtube across 2 channels for more than 10 years. I know that I can do this and hope to succeed! This is my year!
Pacation is the key yes truly I believe, same time looking at the channel wondering to quit but then you remember the value it worth we keep on doing it. And keeping hope 🙏 all much better...
Not live yet, but my channel is all story telling. I used to wrote blogs in the early 200s but traffic disappeared when YT came around. If anyone cares to ask - it's the tech aspect. Editing, sound, thumbnail designs, the titles don't translate from written to video. Fully prepared to launch the crappy videos.
I noticed how you did change of scenes by just switching the color on the backdrop and that’s a brilliant way to keep it fresh with limited space… I have officially added that to my tool bag and will one day use that
Thank You Vid IQ! I’ve been watching your videos and advice ever since I started my RUclips journey. And because of your advice my channel started to grow and it’s still growing. Thank you. Also Btw nice story telling Rob, when you’re on a Vid IQ vid it always puts a smile on my face.
I've been trying to prioritise story telling on my last few videos. It's really tough as it's not something that comes to me naturally. But i have found AI to be helpful here. I like to write out the topics i want to talk about. So ill write a script, using all the stories i want. But from a story telling perspective, often the pacing or structure is lacking and this is where ive been utilising chatgpt and even the vidiq ai to help me reformat my script into a structure that is more engaging. The more i learn about story telling, the better i want to get at it because it translates into every day conversations as well. Great video!
Hi! I'm 52yo man completely lost on where to start, what tools to learn, which niche to choose. It's overwhelming. Can you recommend a channel where I can follow a path on what to learn first, then second, and so on? Thank you!
I just start with RUclips about 1 month and Create the Original contents, I see my channel is growing, even thought it is the small amount , but I will try to continue with RUclips and follow with vidIQ way, I can say, I being become the RUclipsr and will successfull soon. Thank you so much vidIQ 🙏
my story. I wanted to make videos to help fellow gamers so i build guides these have done well but the audience that waits for guides doesnt watch the rest of my channel this has made me realise that the people who subbed to me for those thing dont really care about the channel. with over 17k subs i can probably rely on about 400 of those people acctually watching some of my videos but i feel that my choice to help people has stunted the growth of the channel after i wanted to make lets play content and share the experience of journey of the game. now seeing that lets play content doesnt garner the views it used to say 10 years ago and most channels moved away from it im finding it hard to move away from lets plays, i dont really want to make those videos that are "i sold this for x amount and this is what happened" as my old brain just doesnt move like that. Im trying to work on an idea where the lets play itself sort of is a guide so atleast in every video while im playing then i should be showing how something works at the same time but not sure how that would go.. The downside to being a gamer like me is change i feel im always going to be one of the smaller channels as thats just how it is.. Even if i try to move forward the past of the channel doesnt seem to let the channel move forward.
I understand that feeling. I made a few and they were very unsuccessful. When it comes to gaming, I like to do anti-meta. The problem there is people prefer the meta. I don't think the let's play is big like it used to. I think it comes down more to instant gratification. Example, the audience only wants to see the hottest moments of gaming. You gotta keep those neurons stimulated or the audience hops off the video. Attention span is less than a goldfish. I think that is the trickiest part to gaming vids. But I could be completely wrong, I'm nonexistent at 80 subs.
Am from Africa i started my channel because of your inspiration i have 38 subscribers small but am a winner am working hard learning more to do things better because i believe in you peace and respect to you thanks .
I have to figure out how to get my people to stay watching my video, maybe my thumbnails should be better because my videos are getting recommended but people not clicking , I’m going to figure it out
In real life I am a great story teller by nature. I hook people up for hours. But I am new on RUclips and it seems difficult talking to a camera. Some advice will help, people.
My story? Think you have read it, 20 years banging away at RUclips doing a variety of stuff without making headway. Life gif in tge way a number of times. Back on track and doing model railway videos- live and recorded -broke through 1k. Did an experiment videoing platt car meets and also posted the same on Instagram- very little response. While I enjoy the variety of interests it seems for me the only thing that works for me is model railways with about 1.1k subs growing a little each month. I always think about content and try to tell a story of interest. Cheers
Actually only 10 years. In the past you recommended placing text in the thumbnail, which I did. Then I saw another recommendation to copy another channel’s t’ ails which did not have text. Will give it a go
hahaha I can relate so much to having a shot too tight you can't see the shirt! (I actually had to get a different camera with a wider lens as the physical location where I shoot is oh so tiny!) I always enjoy your videos - even though my channel barely grows, I hope I apply some of what you suggest. Whatever happens, I still enjoy making videos - especially those with a narrative structure (!), and always look forward to your next vid 😀
I'm an author. I write stories. But when it comes to a public persona, I've never quite figure quite figured out who I was supposed to be. I was overthinking it. Of course. I'm supposed to be myself. I can tell stories. One of the tough things about putting yourself out there as an author or aspiring writer is that so many start targeting other writers and authors. The people I want to talk to are readers... and this video realluy opened my eyes to the key to starting that conversation. I can tell stories. It's what I do. It's what I love. THAT is who I am supposed to be. Thank you for this video. I came across it at exactly the right time.
I have been all over the place on RUclips. My most successful channel has about 350 subs but I do have one video with 23k views. It is a guitar related channel. I have not posted to that in a couple of years. I've recently started a channel for relaxing scenes of nature with natural sounds. I've been taking 30 second videos of like, a babbling stream or waterfall. Looping them to make it an hour long and then posting them. I only started this about three weeks ago and I still only have 8 subs I think it is. A few of the videos are up to ~100 views though. I know I need to focus on my naming of them. There are only so many ways you can say, "Relaxing stream with nature sounds and white noise." But it's something I enjoy because I kind of get stage fright in front of the camera. Part of the reason my guitar career (and channel) have come to an end. So I'm watching "How to RUclips successfully" videos, which is how I wound up here.
Well My Channel is 7 Years old today, However My First vids won't be 7 Until August, as When I made My Google account 7 Years ago, I didn't know I had a Channel until someone told me on August 4, 2016, My 1st vid was Titled "Trial 1", I recently Retitled it to "Trial And Error", And The Tube has it listed as 4 Years ago, as it was Miss Shelved When we had our last BETA Which is the New Studio as we know it today. My 2nd vid "My RUclips Origins" Retitled "My Origins as a TUBER" is also Miss Shelved but at least it's closer as it says 6 Years And is My Most Popular. But it's a Duplicate of My 1st Vid, And My 3rd vid is listed as My 1st vid but I made that on August 25, 2016 Weeks after My 1st vid on August 4, 2016.
I have storytelling to do when I do stories at tells things about things about the story so if I go to the first story of the building and I can go to the second story of the building I still have the stories of the building of the building that I just built
Love watching your video's. My wife and I were discussing how your video's have been educating us on being content creator's. Recently our other channel which is a travel/dashcam channel just exploded. We're now over 11,000 view's on the channel with 3,000 this month alone. Keep up with the great work. Your advice really is helpful
Very inspirational as I just came back to my channel after doing nothing for 3 months. My videos are currently music only, I have done voice overs too. I may need to compare to see what works better.
i want to start making videos slightly different from the content i make and should be a lot more better from the videos now, should i start a new channel for that? or try uploading it in both channels? or simply not do that
I think it depends on your subs. Most people don't like bait and switch. They sub to the channel for a particular reason. Unless they are very open-minded, and you're also a large channel, I don't think it's a good idea. This is only my opinion because a channel I was following had to split his in 2 for that reason. A lot of the subs didn't care for his "different" content, thus stagnating that channel.
My story is ive always wanted to share with the world my love for diecast and lego, im trying to figure out best way to do that, my little shorts so far don't seem to be getting any views, I need help I think
I agree with all of the advice I am getting from you with at this point MANY hours logged on your channel...and i have implemented many things...My issue is other Tubers in my field are doing none of these things, for instance..no special work to thumbnails of titles, NO EDITING, no special camera work, long videos...BUT they are growing well...I'm getting to believe you have to be lucky, you have to have the right look and screen presence to be successful and the other things help but don't matter as much...My videos are among the best looking, best edited , best audio professional productions( as a pro in my field) in my niche but they are not getting the notice or views they deserve, it's quite frustrating, how channels that are not doing anything of your building advice and are growing 10s of thousands more than I am(mostly with doing a ton of shorts) I need an audit from you guys please
Every single time I watch one of your videos, I get better at telling stories, and I understand it better. You all do it in your videos it’s so cool. ❤
I like how the vid is about how important storytelling is and how u did it in the video itself. its a nice concept seeing it in action and it was a good story :) it kept me watching
My story is I collect disability because of having Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I try to find part time work but am unable to find work willing to accommodate my physical needs locally, so I took to content creation starting with Twitch in 2021. My primary goals are to make friends, spread awareness of niche games and to eventually make money every month both on here and on Twitch so that I can start travelling again and while travelling make different content and just keep growing as a person and as a brand.

I will check out your content & I am your friend now

You motivated and taught me how to create content and want to thank you for my success so far 💪
My channel gained 95 subs in 3 months. Sometimes I feel to quit as most usually my videos don't get views as I expect. But still I am gonna Hardwork, Hardwork and even more so that oneday We will reach there. Believe me.😃
Your youtube views doing very well / you just need work on subscribers / I'll be a subscriber

As I always say when it comes to creating a video, keep it real, keep it original and let your channel grow organically..
You don't need to have hours and hours of editing to have a good video

You can record about 10 minutes straight, without cutting anything, without adding anything, just adding some visual or sound elements to enhance what you recorded.
This is truly one of the more emotional learning VidIQ videos! 👍
🙏🙏🙏
Awesome you got to meet him
I love this. I am a spontaneous person. If ever I have an opportunity I would grab it and see how it goes. I am so glad it all work out for you Rob. What an incredible journey 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

My channel is growing exponentially thanks to these tips!! Thanks a bunch.
Good luck
U can tell a good story by just using videos and text/captions and music without ever talking
While I haven't gone full-time yet, I have recently incorporated, opened a business account and began that journey. Maybe another year, maybe two as long as my subscribers continue to double every year, or dare I say, grow even faster.
I struggle to come up with thumbnail ideas is there tips and trick that can help me. Ps you help me grow my channel alot thank you
What goes around comes around, you appreciate the man who taught you something, and everyone "I am one of them" appreciates what you taught them.
🖤
How is it going?
Your story and plan sounds very similar to mine. I’m starting mine too. How is it going?
Tim is a true phenomenon.
I've learnt tonnes from Tim too
My story is: I started RUclips back in 2017 wanting to be a minecraft skit channel, but the more attempts I made, the more difficult it was to do.
Please is it important to write description and tags for shorts?
I love this video...Staying positive, focused and will tell a story...THANK YOU!
I’ve decided to dig in and start posting consistently… My videos may not be the best but they are getting out there and I’m learning. Just hit 300 subs and so excited 🎉
ROB is a big inspiration not just for me but for all my fellow Newbie RUclipsrs for soo long. we LOVE YA ROB
7:00 Yep...I remember those days. I've been watching since 2017. :)
Invaluable information as always !!
Totally a great topic. Stories are what we all live for and through. From the cavemen over a campfire to Netflix dominance. No matter the topic…everyone relates to a good story. Here’s to improving our storytelling. 🥂
5:56 It took my life getting in order for me to have the mindset to create again... When things are tumultuous, my focus is obliterated
RUclips is so much, sometimes u try ur best but keep in the same place and buying courses isnt helpful either when we all start from nothing

Hey Richy, that's not the reason, but there could be another reason
I don't even have 1000 subscribers yet and have been uploading clips and videos to youtube across 2 channels for more than 10 years. I know that I can do this and hope to succeed! This is my year!
About to start a 2nd channel. Would love to know how i can add story telling into teaching maths
Pacation is the key yes truly I believe, same time looking at the channel wondering to quit but then you remember the value it worth we keep on doing it. And keeping hope 🙏 all much better...
Thank you so much sir, for you advise, this is the important information. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
We are always here for you!
I noticed how you did change of scenes by just switching the color on the backdrop and that’s a brilliant way to keep it fresh with limited space…
I have officially added that to my tool bag and will one day use that
That’s good stuff - loved learning more about your YT journey. Great story Rob!
🙏
Man, That was some lesson. Storytelling is the king.
That's great to hear! Keep growing! 😉
Thanks again for the help, VidIQ. My channel is growing!
Am from Africa i started my channel because of your inspiration i have 38 subscribers small but am a winner am working hard learning more to do things better because i believe in you peace and respect to you thanks .
Love your videos, learned a lot through them
I have to figure out how to get my people to stay watching my video, maybe my thumbnails should be better because my videos are getting recommended but people not clicking , I’m going to figure it out
In real life I am a great story teller by nature.
(I actually had to get a different camera with a wider lens as the physical location where I shoot is oh so tiny!)
I always enjoy your videos - even though my channel barely grows, I hope I apply some of what you suggest. Whatever happens, I still enjoy making videos - especially those with a narrative structure (!), and always look forward to your next vid 😀
Olá vidlQ bom dia com muita alegria. Brasil. 🎉🎉🎉
You Know guys YOU are the ONE on the entire RUclips and i know that after break my nonstop problem I become you in my country. And thank you.
Everyone enjoys a well told story. This method is spot on! It works great with podcasts too.
Love the thumbnail Rob! You make me smile. Another great video which I'll be saving to my favs
That was such an illegal cliffhanger 😹
Thanks for all your help and work trying to help folks on the Tube like me.👍
I have been all over the place on RUclips.
So nice to see a fellow teacher on you tube !! I was working in a pupil referral unit !! We are now traveling the world and making traveling videos
You are amazing vidiq because of you, my channel Litterally blew up the earth♥️ thank you walter white
I agree, I watched Tim and a few others in my 10 year YT journey.

I may need to compare to see what works better.
i want to start making videos slightly different from the content i make and should be a lot more better from the videos now, should i start a new channel for that? or try uploading it in both channels? or simply not do that
Let's connect! I give customized consultation
