Yeah, I get what you mean. I can complete the first two levels of X without dying, whereas 3 becomes pretty hard too fast. It has zombies and that's awesome, but I still prefer the previous game.
@@mattvolonte9026 I completely understand what you mean lol. When I was a little kid and had an entire anthology on PC emulated, this is how it was for me: MS: could beat missions 1-4 without deaths, although Allen could mess me up in mission 3 from time to time. MS2/X: 1-4 deathless with not too many issues, might've been able to do mission 5 too if not for the damn trains in the tunnel part. MS3: an interesting case. Most of the time it would kill me here or there once, but after some more practice I could actually beat 1-4 without dying (although had to take specific paths that I was most familiar with). MS4: 1 with no deaths easy, 2 was unconquerable to me for whatever reason, I was bound to die at least once to its boss, could best 3 if I avoided the yeti-waterfall path and 4 if I took the zombie path. MS5: awesome soundtrack, but I wasn't too fond of the game itself lmao. Felt like it was way too hard, first level with no deaths was all I could manage. Honestly, I believe I simply treated this game unfairly somehow and never had patience to give a proper effort to learn it. MS6: another one that absolutely kicked my ass with no mercy, and again, 1st level deathless was all I could do, level 3 and onwards would force me to use multiple continues lol. 1 is still my favorite. It's quite short only taking about 30-34 minutes and I practically know every pattern in game. The game is really fair, but the final level's first part is quite bullet hell-ish? Not to mention how you can basically destroy something or parts of the levels at least, making it super satisfying. Well i agree with most of the ranking picks ; now behold my list 1. MS3 2. MS7/XX 3. MS6 4. MS2/X 5. MS5 6. MS4 7. MS1 with that being said , if u could just combine the new features and special ability system of MS7/XX with the story of MS3 we will have the greatest MS game alive !!! i hope you enjoy it thanks 😀😀😀
@Chedy Souilhi I want to get the Metal Slug Anthology. But I need to know. Are the games VERT FLASH HEAVY? if so I want the Wii Version because it tones them down Do these games contain HEAVY strobing?
8:17 Something else that made ralf my main for ms6 was the fact that he could perform Vulcan Gatling Punch by mashing up and shoot (its been ahile since i played it, so i may have forgot the input)
MS-2 was lit! First time I played and beat it was in a small town in Sonora, Mexico, they had the arcade game at this little store and I was using Pesos which is their currency out there. Got several tries with just a dollar hahaha compared to in the states where I only got 4 tries.
Metal Slug 5 could be the number 2nd for this rank if not for the cut content. but yeah, i really like metal slug series, hope they make this kind of game again.
Great breakdown. I got deeper into these games much later on emulation and really enjoy them. Its really satisfying when you learn a stage. I dont have enough time invested in each to really rank them but 1,3,5 definately stand out as my favorites so far.
MS3's final mission is mostly a combination of Mission 5 and Mission 6, since it's supposed to make you think it's a dramatic ending between the Regular Army and the Rebel Army, before the martians shows up and eventually drags the length of the mission into a long 20-30 mins gameplay, there isn't much of a difference even if you don't die or not because when you die just once, it's pretty much a gg in the Metal Slug series, and it's not like there is a pause menu for entering each mission and getting rest seeing that victory screen. Pretty smart if you think of it.
Man you keep amazing videos on my fav games esp METAL SLUG. I am so glad about it, many thanks and keep up the awesome work SG. MS 3 was the best what a EXCELLENT part so many changes and so much do with so much cool stuff to do it.
11:00 "...And then you'll most likely die from timeout" So true, lmao. Why did they make it like that? Why not make it less bullet spongey, or have the time replenish when you destroy the tentacles and it starts flying around? Previous installments never had this problem before, so what's new here?
The 3 is my favorite out them all, the only thing i miss is the cool mini missions you could have in the PS2 version, like the Rebel Solider one and the Fat Island. Nice video btw.
I miss the old arcade cabinets at the markets When I was a kid I always go with my dad and tell him to give me a few coins and I rush towards a shop that has arcade cabinets outside I always play the early metal slug games 😭 When I got a PSP I got the game where every current metal slug game was available in one pack Metal Slug Anthology(?) I think it’s the title
Oh ho, belive me, I spent about three months playing Metal Slug Advance using a GBA emulator, it's fun! Also, SyoryuGame, it's actually Canon and the events that happened in Metal Slug Advance are a few months after Metal Slug 7/XX
4:21 that's a great conclusion there Metal slug 4 is one of my earliest ps2 games and i loved it so much, by the way they did a great job in music and they are indeed memorable especially mission 1 and 3 and 6, tho it could've been better if the missions were longer, like if the paths were all sequential rather than paths because it made it feel small
While my favorite is Metal Slug 3, I have fond memories of seeing MS1 for the firs time with my schoolmates and we were all dropping our jaws at the sight of the mind-blowing graphics.
Yo! Still can't believe it took me so long to find your channel, I came here from the KOF list (where I was happy to learn that I own the best KOF ['02 UM] since I sadly haven't played the newest entry). Just wanna say that you do amazing work and I am for sure going back to watch all of your videos now. Thank you!
One aspect I feel MSX did worse than MS2 is how they handled the reveal of the Mars people MSX kept waving them in your face as early as the 1st stage where MS2 kept them secret until the last stage
Metal slug 4 is my favorite title because of the godly ost it has. Really gives it a different feel than other titles even though it’s mostly full of reused assets
I love MS3 (albeit it's the only MS aside from 6 that I didn't beat). The sheer difficulty it can throw at you gives me a movement shooter level of adrenaline.
01. MS3 brings unique enemies like sea crab, bee, angry fish, Zombie, Ice bear in cave, 2nd boss, alien, clon alien etc. 02. MS3 has unique zone like sea, forest, cave, underwater, sky, space etc. 03. MS3 is also unique for its long and hard mission. The last mission is as long as a whole length game.
Metal Slug 2 is the best by far. The leap forward in terms of levels, graphics, vehicles and enemies was greater than than at any point in the series, followed only closely by 3. And the twist reveal of the martian people, their sudden betrayal and rebel army switching sides for the final battle was often repeated but never as effectively done as the first time. And while it wasn't easy, the challenge was still a lot more fair than most entries.
Great list! Thanks for sharing your insights on the main installments of the Metal Slug series. I actually remembered seeing Metal Slug 5 in the arcade and one of the demos features the Spider Slug. I thought that was the coolest thing I ever seen.
MS4 had some issues, like trevors knife boot having an animation and not letting you move while it plays and rebel vehicles having no immunity frames against especially when theyre fighting masknells and di-cokkas which fire three shots which is enough to just instantly take your vehicles away lol
When i buy Ms X and play it on PS 2, i think its just one sequel but then i buy Ms Anthology it was so mind blowing knowing there is more Ms game. I was play it all day until i finished it all. The art and vibes is memorable.
There are really no bad games in this series. I always gravate to Metal Slug X. It's my first Metal Slug game and by far my favorite. I played it so much that I have done no- hit runs on it.
maybe metal slug 4 wasn't the most original but i gotta say i still think that it's pretty solid game and it has 2 of my most favorite soundtracks in the series plus i still have a lot of fun playing it from time to time i don't care what ppl say about it it still is one of my most favorite games of all times
This is probably going to sound weird, but Metal Slug 5 is still my favorite in the series, with Metal Slug 3 very close behind it. 5 just has the perfect blend of a new setting/enemies, the slide to get out of otherwise impossible situations, and my personal favorite soundtrack in the franchise. Metal and thrash just speak to me, and amazing OSTs like Speeder and Last Ditch Resistance just blew me away. That, and Metal Slug 5 was easily the game I sunk the time into back in my childhood. I loved going to arcades, with Metal Slug and Time Crisis cabinets being the ones I gravitated to the most. Couldn't tell you how many quarters were valiantly sacrificed to get good at both series lmao
Metal slug 1 : This game is Fun ! (8/10) Metal slug 2 : This is even better than the first one ! (9/10) Metal slug 3 : THIS IS PEAK (10/10) Metal slug 4 : what is this ?? (5/10) Metal slug 5 : better than MS4 but still mid (6/10) Metal slug 6 : WE ARE SO BACK (9.5/10) Metal slug 7 : kinda got old (7/10)
Tbh the thing i disliked the most about 4 is that it had a ridiculous amount of "pause" zones where enemies just keep spawning non stop without progressing The worst offender being the 4th stage, where you spend like 5 minutes killing mummies and soldiers on the same freaking location
For me, Metal Slug X is the best, but, the 3 came very close to it. Both are the best of the series by a long shot! Such a classic franchise, especially here in Brazil!😀
Excellent video! Love the Tier list although I would put mslg4 a bit Higher just for the music. but other then that. bravo!! :D do you think you can do a video ranking metal slug music? From each main line aeries
Thank Metal Slug X for having the enemy chaser; one of Chilling Smite's favorite meme sounds that spread through millions in the internet. This just proves how MS2/X changed the world as a whole, even to this day where the announcer is memorable in that game.
Its too shocking for me seeing instead of end title screen. You saw a weird pause. And then BAM.. one of the alien are disguising itself as general and get to see your favourite character get kidnapped. And then you got to fckng space owned by ur enemy to safe the real general and your friends. That twist got me on edge and smile for too long. God i love Ms3.
My opinion: 1. Best version, Anthology! Unlimited continue, auto fire, music room, art gallery, simply the best. 2. Worst version, 3D version. Why? Seems rushed, total mission cut by half amount, lack of charm as the original 2D version. But the music is good though.
I have hear from some people there is slowdown and lag in the anthology versions. I didn't notice playing the ps2 version but I am no expert in emulation.
@@brendanroberts1310 I have the PSP version. It seems to slowdown if I play 2 player co-op over wi-fi. MS1 & MSX play OK. MS2 had slowdown in the original game anyway. MS3 onwards too much slowdown so I stick to playing solo, which is much less fun!
All metal slug series except for the new ones i love them.. remembering the faces of the people on the arcade when i play they get awed and ask how can you finish without dying lol
Metal slug 3 was the first time I ever beat a metal slug game I have played the 1st until metal slug 6 but my favorite is metal slug X, 3, 5, 1, 6 it sucks that Clark can only do his grapple move for like the first two missions after that they won't work on the aliens
Personally, if I have to rate the games myself, it will look like this(from worst to best, X and XX counted as separate games): Advance, 4, 2, 6, 1, 7, XX, 5, X, 3

Yeap metal slug 3 is my favourite one and also the game created by OG SNK team before when bankrupt and change to SNK playmore
The entire campaign is also about twice as long as MS 1 and 2. Part 3 is like for the true hardcore Metal Slug player.
Metal slug 3 is my favorite too! The branching paths, memorable bosses and that final mission were insane!
Is your friend dead?
For every mainline Metal Slug game I always asked during the most outrageous boss fights. "Who the heck is funding ALL OF THIS?"

with that being said , if u could just combine the new features and special ability system of MS7/XX with the story of MS3 we will have the greatest MS game alive !!!
i hope you enjoy it thanks 😀😀😀
I agree. That would be the ultimate MS game!
Damn bro we got the exact same taste, I would change nothing on your list.
@Chedy Souilhi I want to get the Metal Slug Anthology.
But I need to know. Are the games VERT FLASH HEAVY?
if so I want the Wii Version because it tones them down
Do these games contain HEAVY strobing?
@@SharonisCarin321 Not sure about that i played them on ps2 and pc i had a blast , never really focused on the flash heavy part it didn't bother me

Something else that made ralf my main for ms6 was the fact that he could perform Vulcan Gatling Punch by mashing up and shoot (its been ahile since i played it, so i may have forgot the input)
MS-2 was lit! First time I played and beat it was in a small town in Sonora, Mexico, they had the arcade game at this little store and I was using Pesos which is their currency out there. Got several tries with just a dollar hahaha compared to in the states where I only got 4 tries.
With ralf, i think you forgot to mention vulcan punch.
Please SNK, one more journey to the OG series, this game has a special place in my heart
Metal Slug is definitely my best entry amongst all the others. It's a shame I can't play it in my Neorage Software version. Miss it so much
The music in Metal Slug 5 was the best out of the series.
Glad to hear it!
Thanks!
@@ShoryuGame You are most welcome.
"...and the best of them all - *S T O N E S* " I cracked
great video brother, love it! brings back so much memory!
Glad to hear it!
11:00 "...And then you'll most likely die from timeout"
So true, lmao. Why did they make it like that? Why not make it less bullet spongey, or have the time replenish when you destroy the tentacles and it starts flying around? Previous installments never had this problem before, so what's new here?
A lot of deaths in 7/XX felt cheap.
Thanks for the new upload!
My pleasure!
played them from part 1-6. agreed that the alien twist in Metal Slug 3 really got me tight on my seats and controllers.
I do recommend metal slug XX. It has really fun bosses and fun new slug vehicles.
Just remembering the music of Metal Slug 3 Final level get me pumped up
I would love nothing more then the metal slug crew to make it into kof at least once
As playable charecters
@@rdxgamer1772 Yeah, Fio and Marco need to be done justice in a Mainline KOF.
@@kyokugenryudisciple9349 id main fio in a heartbeat
@@kyokugenryudisciple9349 Fio was really fun in the Maximum Impact games.
I like her gameplay in those games
Love to see you back..✌️✌️
The final boss of Metal Slug X stays forever in my heart
Great job 👍 bro
Thank you so much 😀
Can't wait for the Metal Slug Strategy game.
The 3 is my favorite out them all, the only thing i miss is the cool mini missions you could have in the PS2 version, like the Rebel Solider one and the Fat Island. Nice video btw.
I miss the old arcade cabinets at the markets
When I was a kid I always go with my dad and tell him to give me a few coins and I rush towards a shop that has arcade cabinets outside
I always play the early metal slug games 😭
When I got a PSP
I got the game where every current metal slug game was available in one pack
Metal Slug Anthology(?) I think it’s the title
Oh ho, belive me, I spent about three months playing Metal Slug Advance using a GBA emulator, it's fun! Also, SyoryuGame, it's actually Canon and the events that happened in Metal Slug Advance are a few months after Metal Slug 7/XX
thank you so much , i hope im not the only one who requested this video shoryu (or am i ?) 😀😀
The last mission of MS3 is one of the best moments in video gaming history, period.
4:21 that's a great conclusion there
Metal slug 4 is one of my earliest ps2 games and i loved it so much, by the way they did a great job in music and they are indeed memorable especially mission 1 and 3 and 6, tho it could've been better if the missions were longer, like if the paths were all sequential rather than paths because it made it feel small
one word - art style. this game thats why still rocks
While my favorite is Metal Slug 3, I have fond memories of seeing MS1 for the firs time with my schoolmates and we were all dropping our jaws at the sight of the mind-blowing graphics.
Awesome video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Yo! Still can't believe it took me so long to find your channel, I came here from the KOF list (where I was happy to learn that I own the best KOF ['02 UM] since I sadly haven't played the newest entry). Just wanna say that you do amazing work and I am for sure going back to watch all of your videos now. Thank you!
Thank you and welcome aboard!
My most replayed franchise of all time. Have enjoyed it in the arcades in the 90s and still enjoying it with neogeo mini
Metal Slug 2/X is the only franchise that has always been in the arcade up until today.
Metal slug 3 especially its final mission is the one hell of the ride
I love MS3 (albeit it's the only MS aside from 6 that I didn't beat). The sheer difficulty it can throw at you gives me a movement shooter level of adrenaline.
01. MS3 brings unique enemies like sea crab, bee, angry fish, Zombie, Ice bear in cave, 2nd boss, alien, clon alien etc.
02. MS3 has unique zone like sea, forest, cave, underwater, sky, space etc.
03. MS3 is also unique for its long and hard mission. The last mission is as long as a whole length game.
Metal Slug X, and Capcom vs. SNK 2 defined my university gaming experience.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I agree, for me, Metal Slug 3 is the best MS series, the stages, the music, and other aspect still the best..
MS4 had some issues, like trevors knife boot having an animation and not letting you move while it plays and rebel vehicles having no immunity frames against especially when theyre fighting masknells and di-cokkas which fire three shots which is enough to just instantly take your vehicles away lol
Absolutely no doubt metal slug 3 will always remain favourite... Thanks ShoryuGame for sharing such wonderful video..... ❤️ 👍
My pleasure 😊
Metal Slug 3 was the pinnacle for me, it's the all time best, from zombies to aliens, it's just so epic from every single detail to story
I played it so much that I have done no- hit runs on it.
maybe metal slug 4 wasn't the most original
but i gotta say
i still think that it's pretty solid game
and it has 2 of my most favorite soundtracks in the series
plus i still have a lot of fun playing it from time to time
i don't care what ppl say about it
it still is one of my most favorite games of all times
Nice list shoryu!
Speaking of lists i think you should rank samurai showdown series from worst to best.
I might
One of greatest run & gun series 👌🏼
A correction: The Super Grenade was introduced in Metal Slug 3, not 2 or X.
Actually no, in X you can found it in the tunnel in mission 4
Not to forget that MS3 has the best version of "Steel Beast 6Beets" ever. Yet I like MS5 boss theme better.
After Metal slug 3 no other game felt Metal slug enough. It is crazy after 20 years we havent seen any better pixel based game since then
This is probably going to sound weird, but Metal Slug 5 is still my favorite in the series, with Metal Slug 3 very close behind it.
It will be much more beautiful if that game was completed.
I need to play the rest of this series. The first one is amazing and one of my favorite 2D shooters!
Although I love the first 5 Metal Slug games, Metal Slug 2 is my favorite even with the slowdown.
Metal slug 1 : This game is Fun ! (8/10)
Metal slug 2 : This is even better than the first one ! (9/10)
Metal slug 3 : THIS IS PEAK (10/10)
Metal slug 4 : what is this ?? (5/10)
Metal slug 5 : better than MS4 but still mid (6/10)
Metal slug 6 : WE ARE SO BACK (9.5/10)
Metal slug 7 : kinda got old (7/10)
Man, Metal Slug games those were the memories especially playing the Anthology series which is available on psp at that time also Metal Slug 7
Nice vid👍. Kof games ranked from easiest to hardest to get into please. If your looking for new ideas
Ok thanks!
@@ShoryuGame your welcome i want that vid too see how much i suck🤣
I remember playing and watching older people play these on arcade machines in laundry mats lol
Tbh the thing i disliked the most about 4 is that it had a ridiculous amount of "pause" zones where enemies just keep spawning non stop without progressing
The worst offender being the 4th stage, where you spend like 5 minutes killing mummies and soldiers on the same freaking location
I know what you mean.
For me, Metal Slug X is the best, but, the 3 came very close to it. Both are the best of the series by a long shot! Such a classic franchise, especially here in Brazil!😀
MS 3 is godlike. And when the ending credits finish I am emotional everytime
Chilling Smite? From where?
My favorite is 1-5 parts, don't like news with HP bar, and different assets/style. I can't explain that, but 6-7 look different in small details.
Cane you make a video about the storyline for the metal slug side games? Like advance, 1st mission and 2nd mission?
My opinion:
@@brendanroberts1310
I have the PSP version.
It seems to slowdown if I play 2 player co-op over wi-fi.
MS1 & MSX play OK.
MS2 had slowdown in the original game anyway.
MS3 onwards too much slowdown so I stick to playing solo, which is much less fun!
I've always wanted to get into the series, but I have no idea what options are out there
Amadeus mother computer is a pretty good final boss in the metal slug series, especially thanks to the epic track not final attack.
All metal slug series except for the new ones i love them.. remembering the faces of the people on the arcade when i play they get awed and ask how can you finish without dying lol
does the metal slug steam bundle that includes number 3 changes anything or is it still the same game
Metal slug 3 was the first time I ever beat a metal slug game I have played the 1st until metal slug 6 but my favorite is metal slug X, 3, 5, 1, 6 it sucks that Clark can only do his grapple move for like the first two missions after that they won't work on the aliens
Personally, if I have to rate the games myself, it will look like this(from worst to best, X and XX counted as separate games):
Advance, 4, 2, 6, 1, 7, XX, 5, X, 3
