This seriously took me a longggg time to make. Hope you guys like it :)
Also turns out it’s not maple. This is walnut haha
Yo could i get the design id love to make some for me and my homies in my highschool woodshop
Yes, please upload your 3d model :D
This was an interesting commercial for the Beastmaker. $150 doesn't seem so bad.
Make a beastmaker for $15. Step one - purchase $100,000 worth of tools 🤣
God people like you annoy me. There is a thing called renting a wood working shop for dirt cheap.
Step two - Spend four weeks building one yourself for $129
Start off with free wood
@@taintedmilk1 This video is like a rich kid saying: "I'm a self made man, I just got a "loan" of $500k from my parents, like everyone does!"
Still an amusing video, but this is NOT a product made with 15$.
@@TrojenMonkey $15 to use a cnc at a makerspace
puts on climbing shoes to hang board...hmmmmmmmm. Good job with the making of the hang board though
Before i thought the beast maker was overpriced because you can just route a piece of wood yourself but now seeing the amount of effort required to do this well, i think ill just buy one haha. Great work
But you can just route a piece of wood.
He just made life hard for himself because it’s the first one he built. With more experience there’s way less effort in making one of these with an industrial cnc
I just went to Bunnings and bought a fence paling for like $2 AUD, routed some slots in it and sanded it down. sanding was the only difficult part. you don't get the slopers like on a beastmaker, but 99% of beastmaker training is done on the 10-15mm 4 finger crimps anyway. (this was done with just hand tools as I don't have a whole workshop)
One Afternoon and you're good, if you use a router take two pieces of wood so you can easily work on the bottom ones and then glue them together
Because he didn’t choose the correct workflow.
The logical way would have been, rough cutting with a bandsaw, planning stock, glue up, cut to final shape, make a template for the router, just a printed template glued to a 6mm plywood piece and cut with the bandsaw or jigsaw, drill the holes, cut the rebate, chamfering and sanding and finishing, it would be 1 to 2 hours not counting on glueing and finishing.
150 isn’t too overpriced when you count on wood prices, parts they have to scrap because knots or unstable wood grain, products and finishing, but they have around 65% of profit before taxes, specially if they cnc the whole thing in batches and use jigs for glue ups and finishing.
An amateur woodworker would charge around 90 bucks or so and still make a good profit, not worth the hassle if you have to buy the tools for sure
Super easy.. you only need 30k worth of machines, 3d design skills and that's it
Easy peasy
It’s not actually that hard. I made one myself. Just rent the machines and google tutorials for the cnc program you want to use. The program doesn’t take too long to learn for something simple like this. Maybe like 15-30 minutes. Of course it still takes a while if you want to refine it as much as the guy in the video did.
@@Monkeypoundis there a chance you could send your design/file? I really want to make one and I could figure out how to lay one out myself, but it would be great if someone already had it too
@@ericaolsen1445 I can try to make a video but it might take a while if you want
@@Monkeypound up to you if you make a video. If you make one tho, I'll be the first to watch!
Hey, that looks amazing! If you see this message would you consider sharing the CNC plans with me? I am a science teacher, but I coach climbing to the kids at the school. and there I have access to a CNC machine and would love to put the two things together! Let me know :0)
As a woodworker and climber, that was really fun to watch, already thought about building my own beastmaker ;)
Cool project! I made a small batch of hangboards (about 8) with the intent of selling them a few years ago but once you actually go through all the steps and costs needed, it's absolutely pointless financially to make them yourself. Unless, you just want an interesting project or to make one for yourself.
1. Generally a quality wood blank is going to cost you a lot. Unless you can source it from somewhere for free. For me the good quality wood itself (I used oak and birch) was about 20 bucks per board. (I'm located in Europe)
2. I learned to use Solidworks (3D CAD software) just for this project and that took a while. Designed my own simple boards based on existing ones. The CNC specialist had to make some additional changes to my file as well, because I was a complete newbie.
3. I had a friend of a friend CNC route the boards as they had an industrial setup, but generally that process can also be quite expensive. A random service provider asked about 300$ for 5 boards for that job. Not all workshops have the bits to chamfer the edges for example, so that last bit I had to do myself with a Wood router. Which I also bought for the project. So if you're serious, you really need your own CNC setup or a good aquaintance :D
Just my two cents. I sold my boards for cheap (40$) to my fellow climbers just to break even and they sold like hot pancakes in 2 days. Was an interesting project. And still have one myself.
do you have the file for the machine that you used? it looks extraordinary
Great work and love the final result! but not sure about the $15 part haha when I saw the CNC
Especially with the donated wood and no inclusion of things like sandpaper. Its a great project, but for most people it would cost much more.
To not value your time is a big mistake…time is the most precious thing in life
Not even mentioning how much it would cost to buy all of the equipment. $15 ? Just the amortization cost of all of those tools is 10 times higher.
Working on projects is a valuable use of time. Of course, if you don't like the project, then don't do it.
Monos on beastmaker are not just straight holes. They are angled and I am almost sure, a bit curved. Some other holds are also not straight cuts. You pay for that perfect fit when you buy a beastmaker
20 years ago when I couldn't really afford to go to the gym or to buy a resin hang board I made a wooden one with pockets and edges....I never thought anything of it and just hope one day to replace it with a decent resin one. If only I'd thought outside the box !
Ok. But why are you hangboarding with your shoes on?
Build a beastmaker for $15:
Step one get a nice huge slab of free wood somehow.
Step two get someone to let you use thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of tools.
Step three put in 10+ hours of labour that you aren't getting paid for. How long did it actually take?
Its cool that you took the time to do this, but personally I'm glad I just bought mine.
Good job! I love that you put on your climbing shoes to hang 💪🏼
Pretty nice work, looks great! However, do you really like the holes? The Beastmaker boards still have a way more comfy rounding from the looks of it. And the roundings are what makes all the difference.
The holds don’t hurt at all, but I’m sure the expensive store bought version is way better. That said, I’m happy with what I’ve got, especially for the price. Thanks :)
You can take a router with quarter circle profile and round the edges.
Super impressive! Have to say my favourite part was when you put on climbing shoes to use the hangboard hahaha. Great work!
Cool and all, but apparently you only need free access to tools that cost tens of thousands of $$, if not more, to be able to make a beastmaker for $15 xD:
1. A free piece of wood
2. Free access to a industrial size bandsaw or equivalent. (which by itself costs thousands of dollars)
3. Free access to an industrial planer or equivalent (which by itself costs thousands of dollars)
4. $15 (basically free) access to an industrial CNC-machine (which by itself costs thousands of dollars)
5. a set of clamps that probably costs more than the beastmaker itself.
6. Table saw and sander that costs more than a beastmaker. The dewalt sander probably is close to the beastmaker in price too.
7. the porter&cable router is probably upwards of $200.
Conclusion: Just buy the beastmaker for $129 and save yourself the time and money.
many have parents or family who have access to all of this, mine for example, and it would've never occurred to me to do it if i didn't see the video. Besides, you can always carve the wood yourself with way less tools and a lot more work.
@@dawnriddler This is ture. and it doesn't need to be as "fancy".
Could do all of it with a drill press and a set of forstner bits, a table saw, palm router, chisel and some sandpaper. A lot more people have access to that much.
Looks great! But as others said, I don't think the rounds are comfortable for the skin, especially when you start hanging with a decent amount of extra weight.
The Beastmaker holds have a radius of about 5-10mm which looks more rounded than what you did. If your holds aren't rounded enough, then skin/pain tolerance will be the limiting factor for training instead of actual tendon strength. Of course, if you have good skin genetics it won't matter.
That is so sick. Amazing effort you put into making that. So cool.
Very nice! Can you share the project file?
Everyone in the comments are crazy saying $150 is a better deal. If you can find a decent piece of wood that’s that is the right size already you can skip the first step he did entirely. The CNC process is easy because there are workshops in most cities you can pay to mill for you. Also I bet there is probably a CAD file for the beast master floating around online so you don’t have to learn how to do any drafting and then just drive to a local engineering workshop and pay $15 for them to CNC it. Also Fusion 360 is dummy proof and free, spend an hour learning it and you can design and modify your hangboard exactly how you want it. The sanding is the only
shitty part.
Cool dude, but that's like totally aid woodwork though. Do the next one with a knife and piece of sandpaper.
Awesome work! Would you recommend rhino for the 3D modell in generall?
Burning ruined it a little bit but thats also a question of test probably haha
Could you share your CAD file? I'm interested in making this with hand tools, and it'd be super helpful
Sorry, I no longer have the file. You can find it online very easily though, I only made it myself for the fun of it.
This was so cool! I'm online wanting to make such things for myself and my family, and your video was super inspiring and honest too. I think I'd like to burn all of it, and then sand back. I like that effect alot....
I really like that last song actually
Very cool video. I would love to make my own hangoboard but this video changed my mind 😂. Great work tho!
super satisfying to watch you build that!
If you know a little bit about woodworking you can make one with a ordinary router and some sort of fence or guiderail...
I'm your 900th sub!! This is an awesome video Chet! Is it just glue holding the two pieces of wood together? Is there a chance that could split whilst hanging? Keep crushing it! 💪
Excellent video, Thank you for the inspiration
Is it possible for you to share the cad files?
Can you please share the link of the 3D model in the description ? thks
Nice one :)
That finished product though 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 the title should include “with a bunch of extremely generous handouts”
this is pretty sweet! Thanks for posting this for us to see.
Putting your shoes on to hang hahaha love it
Why the hell would you put climbing shoes to hang on a hangboard
today we are going to cook a fish fillet...
1 first ingredient a live mermaid 🤣🤣🤣
This thing is legit beauty 🎉😂
Hey thanks :)
Yeah moral of the story-the beastmaker is a great deal
Hey you're a good film maker! Beautifully edited! I assume you climb? Where are you located?
Its for improving finger strength, not grip strength. Those are two different things.
Any chance we can get the rhino file? I wanna make one as well
awsome! how long did the machinecarving take?
As a CNC Machinist, for them to make this for you at $15 is just comical. Nice board though.
Nice burn, keep crushing!
The best hangboard is the one you make
As a woodworker I think your Beastmaker came out great. But the hanging might have deserved some attention too. The multiplex and screws really don't do it justice.
Dont listen to me, enjoy your board, and work those skills.
great project but why did you put your climbing shoes to do hang board tho ?😂😅great video man
free piece of maple.....
Looks good!
very nice :)
This is awesome but in reality of you hang a 2x4 you can make it as much challenge as you want by going 1-2 fingers only or scooting your fingers so they have less and less ledge
Puts on climbing shoes... to hang from the board. :D
Is there any chance I can use your software file? Is there a price for it?😆
Hey man, any chance you can send the design so we can do it aswell =)
just built mine! thank you for showing me its possible:) learning cnc was fun!
Dude congrats, hope it was worth it :)
Why are the routed pockets that imprecise?
any chance you can share your C&C file or the solid model?
why hangboard with the shoe?
great video tho!
Impressive, I enjoyed watching that.
Thanks :)
Great work!!
climbing shoes for hangboarding?
Cool vid! The radius on the pockets looks painful though
Very cool! what state are you in?
the money you spent is exactly the money they spent, the other 9/10 of the cost is all cost for labor, electricity, machinary etc.
Very nice!
Can you share the 3d design?
Nice job dude...
nicce, but you also had the tools... they cost XD ;)
Bravo !
You wouldn't be willing to send over that CAD file would you?
awesome!
i dont understand WHY so much PRECISION for something, that should help you climb, NATURAL not precise objects. it could have been done with dremel or drull chisel and drill... i understand, that it looks really nice. but people would not make it cause they dont have laying around cncs etc :D
My uncle is a carpenter and he actually made me one for free. But yeah if you are gonna do it yourself I don’t think it’s worth it lol. It seems pretty intense😂.
I'mma start this as a project after my exams
How do you not have more subs?
What are the climbing shoes for? 😂
Haha gotta get in that mindset
So many cuts! Just let us look at the thing
Looks damn cool! Would you mind sending me the cad file so I can also make one of these myself?
Sorry I don’t have the file any more, search online a little bit and you’ll definitely be able to find one for free.
@@ChetSamuel. yeah I'll do that. thanks bro
nice vid dude, can you release the cad file?
How are the slopers after the surface treatment? Does it feel slippery? The color looks really cool!
Feels about equal to the Beastmaker, I can’t hold on to either the Beastmaker or mine though so I’m not really the guy to be comparing haha
@@ChetSamuel. Haha! Yeah I know the feeling :D
Hello, do you'have the cnc files please xD
Lol the fucking shoes.
Can you send the cnc machine file? Thanks😊😊
Hey can you share with me the file you made on Rhino ? Absolutely amazing!
Sorry, I no longer have the file. I'm relatively sure you can look up the file online. I made it myself more for practice than anything.
Good luck :)
did you ever get the file online?
W.W.J.D. 😍🎉🎉
a beastmaker never cost 150$
Nice video!
Appreciate it :)
I'll buy it for $30 😂
bro. I loved the whole video until you put your shoes on for hang boarding. respect- lost...
just kidding;
maKsimum raspeKt (with a Kapital K)
First step get 50$ of wood for free. I likef the video but id prefer smth like "i made an besstmaker at home"
you wasted all that time to save $135? meanwhile i got a brand new on FB market for 30 usd. work smart not hard kid
Aw and they donated you the wood that’s nice
Hi, very impressive... I would be happy if you could send me the file for CNC cutting, I have no idea how to create it. Thanks
Did he send it ? Please share :)
I don’t have the file anymore but I’m sure you can find one online for free somewhere. I did it myself just for the sake of practice, there are better ones out there for sure. Good luck
You could produce them and sell them for $150... lol
I think you just should do this as a learning process or for the fun of it. It just takes too much time if you don't have a factory or so. I make simple fingerboards for clients sometimes, just as a fun project. I charge beastmaker prices but it takes me hours to make the thing. So working for MC Donalds in terms of money might be a better shot. But in terms of fun, this is way better.
Also doing this for commersial purposes would be patent infringement, I think.
