Banger tv delivering some real solid work for the metal comunity. I actually asked for Darkthrone and Dark Tranquillity. Good to see that you try to deliver to the fans that follow your channel. Thanks Banger crew. Have a great holiday and a kickass 2017! Horns up to you \m/
Great Job, Banger! The channel really grew a lot this year. It has become my go-to source for album reviews, and metal discussion. Thanks for all the hard work. The fans really appreciate it!
OMG! 2 Stars for Atoma? Love ya Banger but you need to give that a few more spins. Let the album reveal itself to you. Its a much more mature album than DT's last 2 albums and requires a little bit of time. If A7X -The Stage gets 3.5 stars, then Atoma should get 4.5!
Atoma 2/5, really? is their best work since 1999 and yes, Insomnium is very much influenced by Dark Tranquillity. Cheers from Finland keep up the good work.
I dunno man, I've been a fan of them since the mid 00-s and still love the band, but IaTV, Construct and Atoma sound really really the same to me. Not terrible, not great. Hope they will try to keep it fresh next time.
To me their last 3 albums sound more different from each other than Damage Done, Character, and Fiction do from one another. Those 3 are more extensions of the classic Gothenburg style, giving fans what they want, where-as I hear the ones you mentioned, We are the Void, Construct and Atoma as being the experimental albums utilizing differenttempos and more variation in keyboard and electronic dabbles here and there.
I was surprised to see him give it a 2/5. But I do agree that it is not a very memorable listen from DT, and that's what many others have noted as well. I like the album, but a lot of the songs sound quite the same. I definitely preferred Construct as there were lots of memorable songs to take away from it and it had the signature DT vibe.
Thanks for a great year of tons of awesome fucking metal!! Banger TV has helped me discover some of my new favorite bands. Can't wait to see what you guys have in store for us in 2017! \m/
to be honest, while I wanted you to review Atoma, I'm not really surprised you didn't like it and I agree with a lot of what you said. I really just wanted to hear what you thought. however, I'd say the highs on the album give it a bit of a boost up to around 3 skulls, but just my opinion :)
A7X was deserved to be mentioned, there is some prog and the last song for me is a tribute to John Petrucci... DTP transcendence is awesome... no Haken? no Fates Warning? No redemption?
Christopher Santana I would agree with that. For me Exist was a lot like Octavarium... but shorter (obviously). The transition between opening solos and vocals reminded me of the transition in Octavarium when he's waking from the coma
Magma was good, but not their best in recent years. I think it was great they did something more ambient for a change, but I hope they have a bit of a technical return at some point. That's what they do best. I enjoyed it a little more than LEnfant Sauvage, which I thought sounded rather processed.
Kind of surprised you missed the Flotsam and Jetsam album that got forgotten in the thrash 2016 vid :P I'm also curious what happens to albums released after the "best of 2016" but before 2017? New Machinae Supremacy (Commodore 64 SID chip metal! New category? :P) album came out Dec 16th for example..
I may be wrong, but i think you can tell Ryan is not european in some arguments. The way he describes certain european artists, it's just not how I feel about them, and he puts a sort of distance to it. Also comparing Amon amarth and insomnium doesn't make much sense to me, their universe and aim are pretty different. I already noticed that on the Power Metal Episode of Metal Evolution. It's no big deal, just interesting to notice how someone's vision of the same thing can be shaped by their origin.
Well you are half right. Sam (not Ryan) is Canadian by way of England so yes, he ( and Banger) have a North American perspective on music. We are always interested in how where someone comes from influences how they make and/or experience music, so it's a good observation!
Devin's Transcendence production is amazing, as so is he, but I agree that the album is a little repetitious and yes, more of the same thing, I would rate the album musically with 3.5 skulls hoping he tries to come up with fresher ideas (or until he reforms SYL)
I'm glad you dug the Avenged album. "It sounds like Axl Rose, Megadeth, and Mr. Bungle made some strange baby and called it Avenged Sevenfold." Gotta admit that is a pretty funny and apt description of them.
It's funny, how Sam felt about Atoma is exactly how I felt about The Stage. Great list though, makes me happy to hear Darkthrone still kicking so much ass after all these years; especially compared to Metallica.
But I disagree for the most part on Insomnium. Way different than other Melodeath albums. Not really seeing the borrowing from other records like he is saying. Great record though so happy with the 4 out of 5.
I loved their City of Evil in high school. This one is the best since, but i agree with Sam.Too much same same and like 2-3 songs they should've just left off. (See: all the ballads)
Thanks for tagging me banger tv I appreciate that you remembered my comment. The show is great and all. The only thing I feel sets this show back is the narrow minded/ elitist point of view of the host. When he said I never heard an entire A7X record because they are too mainstream don't forget that lamb of god is also mainstream and Sam is a big fan and so am I. That's double standards. And in all fairness as much as I love LOG (my first live band) they are one dimensional apart from their latest record however I dislike the fact that he is too typical and elitist as a host.
Transdence is by the far the best album I've heard still listen to it years later these guys slam on this album. Love all the guys in the band too they seem to not get a lot of credit for being great musicians.
Loved his Documentary and just found this channel. Love the reviews and turns me onto more music i would have never heard otherwise. He's got some great points on the Avenged Sevenfold. Those vocals are hard to get into for me and are too upfront and dry.
I think The Stage was a great album. I've seen many comments saying Avenged suck. Trust me, many of their songs, even from their best albums, sound like shit individually. First time I heard some from this one, randomly, I felt it would be fucking horrible. Then, I decided to do a review of the album to fuck a friend's mind. Trust me, once again, you can only understand the power of this record if you hear it fully without any intervals. Focus just on the fuckin' music and you'll find yourself lost. This isn't an album you can simply buy songs separately. This is the kinda you go to a store, you buy a copy of the damn thing and you play it in your car during long trips. Sounds stupid? Yup, it does, but it's awesome in its own way.
I got Avenged Sevenfold The Stage album and I have give it 10 out of 10 . I heard Avenged Sevenfold in the past but I got few of there albums this past year after I got The Stage album
according to this channel, seems that the new a7x is better than the new metallica and as good as the new sepultura (to mention a few). we all know that that's not true. but I love the channel. keep up the reviews.
John Strika Different bangers, different points of view, different comments bro. In my opinion there's a probability of U being a crap listener (for what I consider crap). Sorry if I hurt your feelings, just being sincere with U, no hard feelings please.
Pretty harsh on Dark Tranquillity. I actually agree with your criticisms, but scoring it lower than the clusterfuck corporate plagiarism of Avenge? I guess we'll rarely agree.
I feel the complete opposite. To me, Construct was the weaker album, (kind of like a Projector part 2) while the guitar experimentation on Atoma was refreshing. It was kind of cool that I couldn't at times tell when the guitars stopped and the keys began sonically. And for losing a key songwriter... I'm glad they didn't try to do another by the numbers album of melodeath, (a term I hate) even though they are masters of it.
Some of these that Sam had quite a bit of criticism about still got 3.5 or a 4, yet the new Metallica was a 2.5? Am I Savage and Spit Out The Bone alone should have at least crossed it over to the 3.5 range min. I think people need to step away from looking at it as a thrash album, and just listen to it as a straight forward heavy metal album. It's maybe a bit long, but lots of gems on there...
The new Avenged album is pretty sub par. Matt has clearly lost strength in his vocals and sounds pretty awful, the music just seems like generic big 4 thrash riffs with the occasional wankery solo. From a former fan.
I think technically it was very late 2015, but a lot of the media seems to have missed out on the new Doom/black metal band Batushka. A band that seemingly came out of nowhere and rose to legendary status almost immediately with over a million views on their album. Supposedly made up from well known members of the Polish black metal scene, Batushka delivers this haunting, yet crushing mix of current generation black metal, crushing blast beats and wall of sound guitar riffs backed up with these incredible Orthodox monk choirs layered over bells and string instruments echoing like you'd hear in a Church. Absolutely my favourite album of the last 3 years.
I can't believe that you have never listened to an Avenged Sevenfold album before the stage, you don't know what you are missing I may be a little biased because Avenged Sevenfold is my all time favourite band and I have the A7X tattooed on my left wrist, but I definitely recommend that you listen to their other albums since you really like The Stage I recommend that you start with City Of Evil and their self titled one before checking their other albums out
Tyler Bartholomew as much as I like his videos and knowledge on the genre he is very typical/elitist metal head. Maybe there isn't anybody doing what he is doing at this level of production. That's why I gravitate towards him. Good host but pretty narrow minded. in some of his other videos I heard him say he doesn't own a single album of system of a down and deftones. both bands which are not your typical metal bands. so I think it says it all about him
Yasser Jamil not really, and just because someone doesnt like a7x doesnt make him an elitist, avenged sevenfold isnt worth listening, ive heard nightmare the stage and waken the fallen, all of them sooo repetitive and maiden wannabes
wtf imma back a7x on this as much as of a megadeth fan as I am. but as a fan of both bands a7x is a fucking awesome band. album diversities vary but there's no doubt they're badass. R.I.P REV
Anaal Nathrakh total snub. The hell dude. Decent overviews though for these other noteworthy albums. I may not forgive you for giving the A7X album a higher rating than Atoma though.
Simple: if you’ve never listened to a full Av7x album you just can’t speak on metal. Yes, they’re that good. Listen to waking the fallen if you dare disagree.
God, please no! Axl Rose and Dave Mustaine having a baby is a very disturbing thought...
Deeztruct 586 Yeah, but he only looks like them. Sounds different. Either way, that's not what I was driving at
where you were driving at is where you should stop and turn around ! ;-)
autohmae Not sure what you are driving at 😉
volimNestea let's not go there !
autohmae Might be a bad place to visit

STILL no love for Revocation 😭
Oh well, at least Winter's Gate was acknowledged.
Atoma is fantastic
To me their last 3 albums sound more different from each other than Damage Done, Character, and Fiction do from one another. Those 3 are more extensions of the classic Gothenburg style, giving fans what they want, where-as I hear the ones you mentioned, We are the Void, Construct and Atoma as being the experimental albums utilizing differenttempos and more variation in keyboard and electronic dabbles here and there.
I share the same thoughts on those albums!
Schammasch-triangle was a really epic album in my opinion i think it should be mentioned on banger tv
Agreed best album of the year
Thanks for a great year of tons of awesome fucking metal!! Banger TV has helped me discover some of my new favorite bands. Can't wait to see what you guys have in store for us in 2017! \m/
Here's a bunch more you should check out then.
Thrash: Dust Bolt, Warfect, Condition Critical, Power Trip, Bull-Riff Stampede, Harlott
Death: Ulcerate, Sulphur Aeon, Chthe'ilist, Witch Vomit, Archaic Thorn, Gaped (AUS), Horrendous (USA)
Black: Wode, Kriegsmaschine, Mgła, Forteresse, Slægt, Vredehammer, Bölzer, Black Fucking Cancer
Enjoy.
Listen to the new Khemmis record before I get mad, Sam.
Wish you could've got around to Anaal Nathrakh but I'm glad my other request, of Insomnium, got reviewed. The only flaw is The Stage. Good video!
Flaw? I could say the same about Anaal Nathrakh lol
Was waiting for Anaal Nathrakh, dissappointed.
to be honest, while I wanted you to review Atoma, I'm not really surprised you didn't like it and I agree with a lot of what you said. I really just wanted to hear what you thought. however, I'd say the highs on the album give it a bit of a boost up to around 3 skulls, but just my opinion :)
Waiting for Cookie Monster to just quit Sesame Street and make the Metal album everyone has been trying to make all these years.
Wookie Groomer he did do a rap song. I have 99 problems and a cookie isn't one
Furious Wookiee what are you talking about, corpsegrinder shouldn’t quit his job at Sesame Street
Nice to see these albums reviewed, I guess we need to focus more on melodic death metal. Not sure about the 2/5 for Atoma, I would say 3.5/5.
James Rankin 3.5*
Watched this whole thing and still no Katatonia - Fall of Hearts...psyche, I scrolled. Still, WTF? Album of the year!
People vote for these albums, its vote driven show so there you go
A7X was deserved to be mentioned, there is some prog and the last song for me is a tribute to John Petrucci...
That Devin Townsend album cover is cool. Sounds good too.
Do a best of 2016 video! My favorite release of the year has to be Magma by Gojira
Matthew Sullivan They did do a best of 2016 video. They talk about Magma
Anthony Petrillo yeah after I wrote this I saw the video on the channel haha
Matthew Sullivan Phenotype by Textures
Magma was good, but not their best in recent years. I think it was great they did something more ambient for a change, but I hope they have a bit of a technical return at some point. That's what they do best. I enjoyed it a little more than LEnfant Sauvage, which I thought sounded rather processed.
"Magma" by Gogira best metal album of 2016 for me
Darkthrone's new album is super lo-fi? It's like their most polished record to date ahaha. Super tight and not much distortion at all..
Well, if he's used to pro-tools galore, Arctic Thunder would sound super lo-fi. Agree with you though.
Yeah that's true
Black Metal now uses 1980s technology. Lo-fi to us now...but has much more fidelity than the 1920s tech they used in the early '90s.
Glad to see Darkthrone on here. No matter what comes out, I keep going back to that album. It's such a banger and find it so addicting.
Kind of surprised you missed the Flotsam and Jetsam album that got forgotten in the thrash 2016 vid :P
I'm also curious what happens to albums released after the "best of 2016" but before 2017? New Machinae Supremacy (Commodore 64 SID chip metal! New category? :P) album came out Dec 16th for example..

BANGER
Indeed, got confused with the first name ;)
Arctic Thunder and Atoma is 5/5 easy.
Awesome list. A lot of great albums. I wished you could have reviewed the new Sabaton album, The Last Stand.
you should really give the new Infant Anihilator album a listen
Always hear about insomnium but never actually heard them. You've turned me on to em. Thanks for that!
Drunkn SobermN old stuff cool. scope.
Sam! you forgot about Exmortus's Ride Forth! The album came out at the beginning of the year
Pretty solid 5! Was really hoping to see some Frontierer on here but I'll take it.
Space Chief ulcerate forget what a shame!!!
Was really into Oathbreakers, "Rheia" this year. Saw Khemmis' "Hunted" on a lot of lists and checked them out. Pretty fukin' solid.

Y'all sleeping on the new Fleshgod Apocalypse album! SHAME!
because it was pretty forgettable compared to agony and labyrinth
that's not to dis on fleshgod, they're amazing, but it's pretty disappointing compared to those
Obviously I disagree. Even if it's not AS good as their previous stuff, it was still one of better releases of 2016.
Awesome. Thank you, Sam. Long Live Banger TV.
Revocation released a record far more superior than any of the five mentioned but oh well.
Also if you want more riffs in that Insomnium sound, Sam you really oughta check out the latest Be'lakor
Love Winter’s Gate. You gotta read the short story in the liner notes though as you listen to the album
I was shocked that Urgehal didn't get in there with their farewell to Trond
It would be great to cover some lesser known Australian metal bands, like Psycroptic, or The Mark Of Cain.
But I disagree for the most part on Insomnium. Way different than other Melodeath albums. Not really seeing the borrowing from other records like he is saying. Great record though so happy with the 4 out of 5.
What little i heard of Insomnium didn't sound like death metal, but sounded like black metal in the vain of cradle of filth.
DAWN OF DISEASE Goddammit!
Ascension Gate is a great album but I believe it was 2017 released
The Stage by Avenged Sevenfold was reaaally good and Im not even a fan of them but I do like that album a lot.
I loved their City of Evil in high school. This one is the best since, but i agree with Sam.Too much same same and like 2-3 songs they should've just left off. (See: all the ballads)
Great albums, Damn good reviews.
And in all fairness as much as I love LOG (my first live band)
they are one dimensional apart from their latest record
however I dislike the fact that he is too typical and elitist as a host.
Still asking to see a review of Live Burial's Forced Back to Life. Best death metal album of the year imo.
I want to know the top 10 albums that Sam would give 5 skulls to.
Should've reviewed Car Bomb...
Transdence is by the far the best album I've heard still listen to it years later these guys slam on this album. Love all the guys in the band too they seem to not get a lot of credit for being great musicians.
I thought Winter's Gate was the best album of 2016. Simply loved it.
What about a speed Metal band debate on a Future lock horns?!
Damn.... Was hoping for Suicidal Tendencies but I guess not enough people wanted it to be reviewed :/
Loved his Documentary and just found this channel. Love the reviews and turns me onto more music i would have never heard otherwise. He's got some great points on the Avenged Sevenfold. Those vocals are hard to get into for me and are too upfront and dry.
Nice Opeth shirt! What tour is that from?
Got the review I wanted! And of course, this was an amazing album from Darkthrone.
I got Avenged Sevenfold The Stage album and I have give it 10 out of 10 . I heard Avenged Sevenfold in the past but I got few of there albums this past year after I got The Stage album
Thats a cool Opeth shirt, where do I get one?
according to this channel, seems that the new a7x is better than the new metallica and as good as the new sepultura (to mention a few). we all know that that's not true.
but I love the channel. keep up the reviews.
to bad you never got to Suicidal Tendencies it was a killer album.
Dark Tranquillity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
have we done anything with the crazy slam death kids yet?
How come Be'lakor's Vessels was not included?!
Some really boring selections. Give me a break.
Alessandro Vieira Because he'd like more than the three people who actually listen to that crap to view his video lol
Look for Quebec's own Teramobil. Magnitude of Thought
I want you to review Whispered's Metsutan!
I am a huge DT fan and a fan of Melodeath. Completely agree on the new record. I loved the last record, Construct. This one, not so much.
How could you forget the almighty DARKTHRONE
Some of these that Sam had quite a bit of criticism about still got 3.5 or a 4, yet the new Metallica was a 2.5? Am I Savage and Spit Out The Bone alone should have at least crossed it over to the 3.5 range min. I think people need to step away from looking at it as a thrash album, and just listen to it as a straight forward heavy metal album. It's maybe a bit long, but lots of gems on there...
I like how he says "about"
Just out of curiosity, what were some honorable mention albums that almost made it in?
No one suggested, Inquisition Bloodshed Across the Empyrean Altar Beyond the Celestial Zenith?
I would still recommend "Meta" by CAR BOMB/ co-produced by Joe Duplantier from GOJIRA
much love for avenged! the stage was an awesome album!
Very nice representation from the Nordic countries here :P. Thanks a lot Sam for doing this.
You guys should have done Primal Fear's Rulebreaker
How bout Sabaton's The Last Stand? That was an amazing one
Fair play to you, honest reviews
I'm sorry, tear me apart, but I listen to Insomnium and all I think of is it's a cure for INSOMNIA
is that a bad thing?
The new Avenged album is pretty sub par. Matt has clearly lost strength in his vocals and sounds pretty awful, the music just seems like generic big 4 thrash riffs with the occasional wankery solo. From a former fan.
I think technically it was very late 2015, but a lot of the media seems to have missed out on the new Doom/black metal band Batushka. Absolutely my favourite album of the last 3 years.
What about Rulebreaker from Primal Fear? So good!
How many times does Sam listen to a record before he reviews it?
Waiting for Venom's next album.... That's all.
I can't believe that you have never listened to an Avenged Sevenfold album before the stage, you don't know what you are missing
I may be a little biased because Avenged Sevenfold is my all time favourite band and I have the A7X tattooed on my left wrist, but I definitely recommend that you listen to their other albums since you really like The Stage

Tyler Bartholomew as much as I like his videos and knowledge on the genre he is very typical/elitist metal head. Maybe there isn't anybody doing what he is doing at this level of production. That's why I gravitate towards him.
Good host but pretty narrow minded.
in some of his other videos I heard him say he doesn't own a single album of system of a down and deftones.
both bands which are not your typical metal bands.
so I think it says it all about him
The Sickness exactly
preconceived notions can only be changed if you open your mind
^^^ typical poser talk
you dont have to like every metal bands. Sam is an old school thrasher, oh and a7x isnt metal
Mr Superstar XV of course they are not metal. you must be the guy who denounces if a band is metal or not. exactly the point I was making
Yasser Jamil not really, and just because someone doesnt like a7x doesnt make him an elitist, avenged sevenfold isnt worth listening, ive heard nightmare the stage and waken the fallen, all of them sooo repetitive and maiden wannabes
Make black metal great again
wtf a7x has Megadeth touchs? fuck no
No way, A7x is trash and Megadeth is thrash
wtf imma back a7x on this as much as of a megadeth fan as I am. but as a fan of both bands a7x is a fucking awesome band. album diversities vary but there's no doubt they're badass. R.I.P REV
not to mention a7x has so much inspiration from Pantera. They're like gods to a7x
***** Pantera ? Lmao
fuknwastd can we just all agree we have hate bvb and asking shit?
Wish I couldve seen a review for Rotting Christs new album, I suppose this wouldve possibly been a bad time of the year for it though.. lol
Anaal Nathrakh total snub. The hell dude. Decent overviews though for these other noteworthy albums. I may not forgive you for giving the A7X album a higher rating than Atoma though.
No Metal Church, XI?
This needed to have Car Bomb - Meta
I wasn't thrilled with Avenged Sevenfolds new album,"The Stage." Nothing wrong with it, it just wasn't my cup of tea this time.
Simple: if you’ve never listened to a full Av7x album you just can’t speak on metal. Yes, they’re that good.
Listen to waking the fallen if you dare disagree.
He sure says “of course” a lot
you should really give the new Infant Anihilator album
on #1EDGE OF SANITY DID IT
CALLED CRIMSON. REMEMBER CRIMSON?!
despised icon- BEAST
Al Gonzalez Lol that album...
Beige production? That's a first.
No idea what he's talking about.
I can't listen to sevenfold, just can't but I didn't listen to this new album and won't :)
yeah, fuck that xD no Wormrot, Sumac or Revocation, wanted them over A7X
I love that dark throne album!!!
I don't feel the 4/5 for Devintownsend matches his face, looked like a 1/5
