This sounds like an absolute NIGHTMARE to take photos to different albums. The old tabs were useful, since I could search and then on albums tab I could quickly throw photos to many other albums switching back and forth between tabs,and I can’t do it with this one…if their whole idea is “customization”,at least let me customize it to make my experience the most efficient as possible.
I hate the new design of the photo app. Previous one was way much better. Now I take a screenshot and I’m searching it for a few seconds, before on iOS 17 was in front of me, the same issue with the screen recording, now I’m searching for my video before it was right there ! In my recent photos file!!!!! For me that’s a huge downgrade.
it’s frankly a nightmare trying to use this new app. the person leading this team should be fired. totally disconnected from reality of real users. trying to teach my parents how to use this is going to be A NIGHTMARE
Why in the Flippin heck did Apple spend any time changing the Photos app which was absolutely perfect as it was. All of the engineers working on changing that app should have been put on intelligence. That’s where Apple needs to put every spare person with the knowledge to work on it.
I only ever use Albums and Recently Deleted. I've never been interested in what some algorithm thinks I need to see. So removing the bottom tab bar is massively negative. Apple: add stuff, don't take it away.
I hate it. The select button in the upper right hand corner is way too small. I always miss it with my finger. Most of my photos interactions is that selecting the select button to delete a number of the temporary photos I just took. I don’t like how my photo gallery only goes to half of the screen. Also, don’t like how screenshot photos are zoomed out to show the entire thing and there’s a huge border.

I installed the iOS 18 beta on it and now I have headaches every time I enter the app, it just looks horrible, the removal of the bottom bar doesn’t make sense to me, and I hate that I know have to enter the top corner profile tab to check if the photos have already been synced.
New features are great, but put them into iOS17.x UI. The new iOS18 is a terrible user experience because it’s not intuitive or logical. The UX designers behind it should have to make a televised public apology and be demoted, their line managers fired, and senior execs lose all accumulated shares and bonuses, for letting this get released to the general public.
I am in an eternal search for a smartphone that does one simple thing: moves NOT COPIES photos from camera roll (or whatever main bucket is called) to an album so you can keep the main bucket clean. So far, every phone I've used, across Apple and Android, only copies into albums. Any suggestions?
The changes will be interesting! Hopefully it will make deleting pictures from the recent deleted album easier. Maybe it will make cleaning up duplicate photos easier as well.
Miss when iOS was simple to use. Got the beta on my old phone and absolutely hate it. I restored that back to iOS 17, and I will not be updating my main phone, and this will force me NOT to upgrade to the iPhone 16
I hate the redesign so much. They need to at least add tabs or something back, what I do in photos is mostly manage albums and categorize my own photos since I have over a hundred thousand in my library and it’s awkward to go through, and it’s very easy currently to have different spots in the timeline open at once across the library, recents, and search views, and return to your search from “show in all photos” by just clicking over to it and having nothing changed. Sure, I could get rid of other things, but I much prefer separate tabs with the bottom bar to scrolling endlessly. I might be able to get used to the new view but it would just be more inconvenient and harder to use, with more taps to get to anything I want to look at and a less intuitive design that doesn’t really feel like an apple app. It feels like it’s meant for purely a showcase and not actual use by people who find photos the best photo organizer app they can have, especially with having an icloud library locking you into it. Mac photos has been in need of a redesign for a while but the phone and iPad versions work perfectly fine as is.
It's so annoying. Soemeone would send me a picture that was taken years ago and it just wont show up because it gets mixed in with my other 15000 pictures. Before it would show under recents.
@@eraldway how are you counting the steps? It’s at least two steps in iOS 17: tap albums tab, make sure you’re on the top-level album page, tap recents
@@RosenblumStudios incorrect. It's one click on iOS 17. You clock the Albums tab and you are there on recents. Now, you have to first go into full gallery mode. Then click the up/down arrows, then click sort by recents. So three steps. Then if I want to go back to sort by date, you have to repeat those steps , while on iOS 17 you just end up click on the "Library" tab.

"We used to have 'Years, Months, DAYS, All', but now the days view is gone! 😡 That was the best way to browse photos !! "Recent days" seems to have replaced it, but it’s not the same: 1) I want to access the days view starting from Year, then Month, down to a specific day - not starting from today. 2) The vertical scrolling in the Days view was perfect. In Recent Days, the vertical scrolling is limited to just that day. You have to scroll horizontally to move to the previous or next day. I hate it.
Let’s hope once they allow you to customize it they don’t later do what is happening to my home screens it will not let me organize the icons the way I had them after they lost the view I had They lost it and I have spent hours trying to re organize them, but half the time trying to drag an app icon in front of another it drops on top and creates a folder and then I lose the app to try to add them back! It’s a fail now! I have to reset Home Screen and try again. I finally gave up. But if they do that again with this … LOSE!

Fine scrubbing through videos is really clunky and poor now. Worst of all, you can’t see time stamps on the videos. That’s the primary use for my videos
hey i have a question , when i purchased my mac it was running on bigsur . and there was an option may be when i download any installer from safari after installing that installer file automatically moved to bin, but now its not happening can you please tell me which setting i am missing???
Wanted to find a photo that I knew I took on June 12. Use that as the search field. Instead of like the old app getting all the photos from June 12 I got every June photo ever and every 12th photo ever. It didn’t seem to distinguish. I have to figure out how to use the new search.
Because what? Apple gives Home Screen customization and a new Photos app? You don’t need to use tinting and a lot of people really like the new Photos app and see it as a huge upgrade
@@AppleInsider Apple used to be more consistent while Android was the one going crazy with the features and customizations. Now we're seeing the opposite. Apple should focus on actual useful features and bug fixes, I'm running the most recent stable version of iOS 17 and it still has bugs that are almost a year old. Android is now more consistent. Apple, in an attempt to innovate, seems to be creating more issues and confusion than solutions.
@@AppleInsider It's not a bad thing, but what made apple great what exactly that. Remember when MySpace was so customizable that it became an eyesore, so much so that it was the death of it? Nothing is going to happen, we'll all have to accept it, but the closer iOS becomes to Android, the easier it'll be to transition. The new photos app is just terrible. Look at the complaints not just of it's new GUI but the functionalities lost.
Now this would’ve been a Photos change that would have been useful. Alphabetizing the albums is something I have long wanted. Everything else is perfect as it is and did not need people working on it who could’ve been working on Apple intelligence. Things the iOS/iPad OS Photos App Needs To Add Filter by camera and lens, ie iPhone 14 Pro Max 48mm etc. Filter by file type, ie jpg, png, dng, heic, mov, mp4 etc. Filter by “My Photos” ie only photos I’ve taken only on my devices (tied to iCloud), no downloaded, imported, or shared image. The ability to add something to an album and remove it from All Photos. The ability to lock access to individual albums and create an album cover that is not based on what’s in the album.
People hate big change for apps they use the most and complicate their lives. I still hate apple for stopping their Aperture app. I realize they were not looking out for their customers. I hate the way the Photos apps works now. I forces me to create multiple Photo containers because I don't want all photos in the cloud because of space and content. But you buy into Apple and you have to adapt to whatever the liberal a-holes in SF believe is best for you. The cost of changing systems is just too great, so you have to go along. But it doesn't stop me from cussing these idiots.
Have a look at Nitro - works great for ex-Aperture devotees and allows me to shoot RAW formats that Apple won't recognise. Even better if you shoot Fujifilm or want LUT access to Fujifilm sims.

I love the new photos app. At first I didn’t like it and thought it was just a jumbled mess… then I realised you can customise and hide what you want to populate what you want under the photos. Next major major change I love! The media scrubbing bar and also having your videos loop. Goodbye Google photos…. One main reason for keeping Google photos was for this feature. Apple has it now 😊
How is it controversial?? Its just a simple 1 page design with loads of customization to be put the way you like it!! I personally LOVE it way more than the og its way simpler and i love being able to look at my albums while also looking through my library or whatever else i put in the carousel!!

I hate it because the camera roll disappeared. I can’t even customize it to show the camera roll as an album. There’s no option

I hate the way the Photos apps works now. I forces me to create multiple Photo containers because I don't want all photos in the cloud because of space and content. But you buy into Apple and you have to adapt to whatever the liberal a-holes in SF believe is best for you. The cost of changing systems is just too great, so you have to go along. But it doesn't stop me from cussing these idiots.
Have a look at Nitro - works great for ex-Aperture devotees and allows me to shoot RAW formats that Apple won't recognise. Even better if you shoot Fujifilm or want LUT access to Fujifilm sims.

I have iPhone 18 beta obv and I think it’s alright. I generally didn’t like how the photos app was cuz it was kinda weird for me

I love the new photos app. At first I didn’t like it and thought it was just a jumbled mess… then I realised you can customise and hide what you want to populate what you want under the photos. Next major major change I love! The media scrubbing bar and also having your videos loop. Goodbye Google photos…. One main reason for keeping Google photos was for this feature. Apple has it now 😊

How is it controversial?? Its just a simple 1 page design with loads of customization to be put the way you like it!! I personally LOVE it way more than the og its way simpler and i love being able to look at my albums while also looking through my library or whatever else i put in the carousel!!
