  • You can find St Govan’s Chapel in a gap in the cliffs on the rugged South Pembrokeshire coast. Another old mysterious place in Wales.
Located near the village of Bosherton, St Govan’s is a medieval pilgrimage chapel in a dramatic setting looking out to the Atlantic, it is approached down a flight of worn stone steps.
The location of St Govan’s Chapel is marked on google maps.
The chapel itself is thought to date to the 13th to 14th centuries and is constructed of limestone but parts of it may date back further to the sixth century.
About 25 m south of St Govan's church is a well, reached by a flight of rough steps. It was fed by a spring but this has long since dried up.
The chapel and its holy well gained a reputation for the miraculous cure of lameness and eye disease.
You can also reach St Govan’s head along the Pembrokeshire coast path although check the schedule of neighbouring Castlemartin Firing Range which conducts regular military exercises which close the path and access to the chapel.
To the east of St Govans Chapel are some remains of some World War II firing ranges including blockhouses and a circular aerial bombing target utilised by RAF Brawdy.
The South Pembrokeshire coast is a beautiful area and is perfect for walking. (When the firing range is closed!)

Love your channel. You do Wales so much justice! I've been to everywhere on your channel so I know how beautiful these places are. I have stopped going abroad for about 3 years now and decided to see what I have on my doorstep and I never realised how lucky we are to call this beautiful nation home!

There is a story attached to this chapel which says that if you count the steps down and up you will not reach the same total. My wife and my two children did just that and came up with 8 different totals.

My abiding memory of visiting St. Govan’s Chapel two summers ago is when I thought it would be a great idea to make the short (I thought) walk to see Green Bridge to the west. Three hours later, on the hottest day of the year, we still hadn’t reached it. Suffice to say, Chloe’s not come on a long distance walk with me since!

I was intending to walk there but the path was closed due to the firing. Quite glad it was!

And greetings on this Father's Day.
Always glad to see old friends and new.
Never been to St Govan's, though it was just outside my mapping area back in my uni days.
This week, we're closer to home.
    Nice place.
The hot tub has a view of Harlech Castle and a place next to the castle has crab cakes.
    Love this place.

Govern or Gawain was originally a Welsh demigod, when the Christians were unable to stop the locals from revering him they re-cast him as a saint. When Malory wrote Le mort d'Arthur he would have heard of the exploits of this demigod and hero, and naturally included him in his story.

Wow the chapel is amazing! Thank you for showing us. At a beach in Christchurch , NZ, called Taylors Mistake, there are caves which people built small houses around and lived in. I wonder, just because of placement, if thats how the chapel became. The cave might of had a special meaning. Just a thought. :)

Sorry, but I’m not a fan of them or their supposed works. Like many conspiracy theorists, they have views I strongly don’t agree with and they associate with people and groups I don’t particularly like.

Sorry to hear that, if you read the old Welsh history books that the British tried to burn the you would know the truth. Read for your self.
