It's nice to have a nice, quiet video with just soft sewing sounds, and you can easily tell the instructions without a lot of unnecessary chatting or lecturing. Thanks so much for this!
@@themelodyofsewing6369 You are doing well with your quiet videos. 😊The important thing is to keep practicing. I learned a little bit of German in school, and while in Germany I felt that my language skills were very inadequate, but my friends appreciated that I tried to keep talking a little every day, and I would gradually improve. It would be good if everyone could speak more than one language. For sewing and quilting, the visual demonstrations are more important. Thanks again for your lovely videos and for showing us your finished quilts too. Best wishes from Texas, U.S.A. 🥰
I just happened upon your video this morning and I'm so happy I did! You've done a great job of showing what can be done with small scraps and some background fabric. You've given us so may variations I'll have to watch this again to soak it all in. Thank you so much for doing this video!!
I really love the idea of adding that little 1” strip on the sides of the scrappy unit before it’s put in the larger square! I’m definitely going to try this…thank you so much!
I can’t remember when I last enjoyed a video this much!! The presentation without long complicated instructions was wonderful-I will become a faithful sunbird🤓
This pattern really ticks the boxes on using up scraps + putting them in a visually pleasing arrangement. Some scrappy quilts are just too overwhelming to the eye. Using the contrasting colors (blue/white) really frames the scrappy strip. Just love it. Will do it!
Wow, I am so impressed with your creativity. All this is right in front of my face and I never thought of it. I've done square in a square, log cabins, 9 or 12 patches using scraps but that's about it. Thanks for the, new to me, ways to use up even smaller scraps.
Loved this so much!! ❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing your creativity. The blocks with the narrow blue edges along the piecing and white trangles reminded me of the old film reels. Which it could 'be' if using print fabrics. Beautiful and versatile ❤❤❤
Looks like a nice, stress free way of building up blocks. And I love both of those background fabrics, especially the dark blue, wish I had some. Great video!
Love your tutorial and the wonderful variety of block placements. As a teacher for beginner quilters, I’d love to list your site as a reference if that’s ok. But there’s one thing I will point out to beginners is to always cut away from the body. Seen too many cuts and injuries. Thanks loads.
I am a novice with the sewing machine, but I want to try to make a quilt. This one so reminds me of my mother. She was a quilter and absolutely loved using any fabric she could find. It used to infuriate me as she got a little confused near the end, and would cut up her good clothes to make scraps for quilts! Now I so miss those days! Anyway, I found her old wedding dress (from 1942) and I'm thinking I could make a slew of 6" squares out of that! The main feature of her wedding gown is the gazillion buttons that run down the back and on the sleeves. I really want to incorporate them somehow, but I lack the vision for it. Any ideas? There is also a lace veil, that I suppose I could lay over the 6" squares. Would that work? Or would it be too busy? Collecting scraps for the colorful strips won't be a problem. But any suggestions or tips you could throw my way with regard to quilting using both new and old fabrics of differing types and weights will be appreciated. I probably won't get started on this project until the weather turns cold again, so I have plenty of time to ponder and plan before I start chopping up my Mama's dress!
Yes, you're right, you need to think carefully before you get to work. If you want to use buttons, then perhaps it makes sense to think about sewing decorative pillows in the patchwork technique. You can also use a lace veil for them. Thank you for sharing your story!❤️
I love your tutorial ! The quilts are beautiful and the project is easy and stress free. And the music sound track is magical. Do you know the musician or the name of the music.
i love your blocks working as a trellis design, but i did wonder about one colour being left an "O" shape and the next as an "X" shape, like tic tac toe or knots and crosses as we in Scotland know it. I did like when you made the 1/2" shashing down the outside of the run of little cubes, and then putting the triangles on after that, it framed those little blocks in my mind. Thank you flower you sharing your ideas with us. Sending crafty hugs from Norah, Glenochil, Scotland
I'm guessing you had to put the disclaimer about using the rotary cutter because of too many PERSONS being JUDGEMENTAL? I really wish people would mind their own business 😂. If they don't like something, look away, stop watching and move on already. It works for you as long as you are safe ❤😊 Just like I learned to press my seams open 99% of the time feom Lori Holt, Kimberly Jolly, Crista Watson and Crista Moser. Yet, there are many that try to say that I am wrong and my quilts will fall apart. My quilts don't fall apart because I use a small stitch length and I don't use minimal quilting 😊😊😊 You do you and what works for you ❤
Isn't you deciding that people are being judgemental, making this your business, you could have just scrolled past. People care and when they see something that could cause a problem they want to help. You are right you do what's right for you but so can everyone else. Have a blessed day xx
I love this use of scraps. But I am surprised to see you pull the rotary cutter towards you. I've been told that you should cut away from yourself so as not to accidentally cut yourself?
For safety reasons, you should always roll the cutter away from yourself. I do it the other way around, and it’s wrong, but there are reasons for this. I hope you understand. So, please, don’t copy my cutting style, and remember, safety comes first. ❤️
That's exactly what I'm doing. The way I sew 2 strips is shown for example, so as not to tire the audience. If I show how I sew all the scraps, the video will be very long.

@@themelodyofsewing6369 I think that is so cool. Another weird thing about me, I love to hear the different sewing machine noises. They all have their different sounds. I love that you are using your scraps, but this is not recycling, this is reducing by using what you have rather than buying. Reducing our purchase of new fabrics is so important. I know this is semantics but recycling should be the last step in a fabrics life.
It’s possible to acquire more than enough fabric for quilt making without BUYING a single new piece of yardage or precuts. I’ve joined my local quilt guild and explained how I use only scraps and remnants. They can come from clothing construction too, which it is reasonable to make with new yardage. I want everyone to be responsible for using their own scraps but for now take whatever someone else wants to get rid of. I’ve been given more amazing fabric than I anticipated. I hope my projects will encourage others to buy less, or none, and use the scraps they generate.
It’s true that the word recycled means to reuse something or make another thing of the same kind, like new glass bottles. Upcycled refers to use the thing to make something new and different.
