Yes that is one of the episodes where Johnny tells Jay Leno he is really funny. Where he is explaining the warranty card where his father returns a toilet seat 2 months before the 20 year warranty expired in the toilet seat.
If you watch an episode of The Tonight Show with Carson there is a 1989 Video where Jay is on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Leno is cracking him up and Johnny Carson tells him he is a really funny guy. I believe Johnny did have respect for Jay Leno he guest hosted the show a ton of times.
Jay Leno was so handsome when he was young, still is, but he sure resembles Elvis when Jay was young!! Wow❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I watched jay Leno late night, great host, down to earth. When he left, I quit watching late night shows - I didn’t care for Letterman at all, rather obnoxious
Johnny likes Jay a lot,, and Johnny finds Jay funny.. I find Jay very funny, I like all his comedy they are practical and funny too at the same time.. I met one female cashier like that in Sears in 87,, she was funny, I thought she was cranky.
Leno was a very funny standup. He changed once he got the Tonight Show....maybe a little bit before that (when he started guest hosting?) to become much more middle of the road.
The whole Conan Leno thing was NBCs fault. They should have let Leno go until he retired or his ratings started to fall. Then Conan could have went to ABC or Fox and would probably still be on today.
Jay Leno was born in 1950. He had a brother born 10 years earlier (died in 2000). His father was born in 1909 (died in 1993) his mother was born in 1910 (died in 1992).
@Ken Henderson There are a lot of miserable jerks on here, don't pay them any mind. Check out the video here on yt where Jay talks about his father, it's a nice story about his relationship with his dad.
You know I have to keep doing a doubletake everytime I see clips of him like this because I swear from a distance he looks like Al Pacino in his 'Scarface' era or Chris Sarandon.
Talking about his parents here, makes you a little sad to remember his farewell speech when he was choking up talking about life after he started the Tonight Show gig: "The first year I lost my Mom. The second year I lost my Dad, and then my brother died. After that, I was pretty much out of family."
Leno had a much funnier monologue than Carson. But Carson could get much more funny stuff from guests than Leno could. Both were because Jay was a comedy club veteran while Johnny was a product of television.
@@clarktferrill Anything east of New York State and west of New Brunswick. (i.e. Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine).
Leno when he was younger here seems to me to be brilliant. A great comedian, fast and funny. I am from the UK and have never seen these clips before, what a shame Jay became tired and old fashioned in his later years. The unpleasant business of the 2010 conflict ruined his reputation for good.
Carson was the king of late night comedy and Leno is in second place. They were both great! Respected all of their guests and could discuss a variety of topics. Fallon, Kimmel and Colbert are not even in the conversation. The three have all decided to have one theme to their act and that is to slam Trump. I don't watch any of them.
What Bob Newhart did is an act it's prepared material. What Jay Leno does as anyone can is just repeat funny things that happened in other people's lives like his parents. Keep it tight and pertinent but it's not an act it's just telling funny things that happened two other people.
Jay Leno reminds me of that creep that was on that Seinfeld goes back to stand up comedy documentary. The guy who constantly is practicing and hounding people to tell him how well he’s doing. I don’t even feel like looking his name up but it was a weird name.
Actually if you bothered to watched his show you would have discovered he never gave his political leanings when on air. He also had politicians from both parties and equally made fun of both parties. However, the same can't be said with current late night hosts. That's what made Carson and Leno the best by not stating their plotical leanings and being fair to every guest.
You can tell there is no chemistry with Leno and Carson. Carson didn't really respect Leno as a comedien, but still tolerated him as Leno was super hot during this time. You could tell Leno didn't know how to act around Carson.

SMH at you Gabriel J. The Euro didn't exist back then. French money back then was called the Franc. Jay knows how to communicate in a highly effective and humorous way. 'French money' is a more accessible and easily understood reference to the wider American audience.
No one i repeat no one was is or will be better than Johnny Carson as a late night show host
I loved stopping by, Mr. Leno :) .
I never saw Jay on the Tonight show but I have seen every episode of Jay Lenos Garage. The guy is brilliant.
I loved Jay Leno's jokes, the warranty card one still breaks me up.

Not only does he do a great monolog, he continues one somewhat from the chair. I miss him.
I will always miss Johnny Carson & Jay leno.I certainly agree Kathleen.

Jokes usually above average. .. Delivery and facials Fantastic..
Interesting in Carson’s introduction for Leno he mentions how Jay will be hosting a show with Paul Shaffer of all people
"Colon tartare". THIS is why Leno is the best comic of his generation.

HE DID PICK JAY TO DO THE GUEST-HOSTING SPOTS..THAT SHOULD SPEAK FOR ITSELF..IF JOHNNY DIDN'T LIKE YOU, YOU JUST DISAPPEARED, LOL..
Wow it's so weird seeing Jay hear after just knowing him from Jay Leno garage CRAZY 🤣👌❤️
Jay Leno: an American original.

@MADAME BUTTERFLY..SAME HERE..I NEVER LIKED LETTERMAN, UNLESS JAY WAS A GUEST..I HAVE VARIOUS CLIPS OF JAY BEING ON LETTERMAN, 1984-'92..
Leno is awesome
Always loved Jay Leno. I could not wait till Johnny went on vacation so I could see Jay filling in for Johnny. I also love Conan O'Brien.
I feel the same way. Winning Fantasy 5 numbers winning Fantasy 5 numbers
You didn't say thank you !!! It's on the receipt sir ..too funny

Since Leno left I quit watching late night
Folks, that´s because Timothy is 82 years old, and goes to sleep at 7pm.
Timothy Hartsook - me too!!! I can’t stand any of the late nite hosts, all a bunch of political blubbering, left wing idiots!!!’
Same here. Late night tv is all garage now and to political.
Same here. I cant watch today's crap.
@@richardspikman7116 Hahahah LMFAO
Jay Leno is a genius, he was the most qualified person to take over for Johnny. Letterman has never made me laugh.
Your comment is proof you have no idea what funny is!
Jay says funny things. Dave IS funny.
Letterman isn't that funny. I've watched many episodes... pretty lame for the most part
Leno was a very funny standup. He changed once he got the Tonight Show....maybe a little bit before that (when he started guest hosting?) to become much more middle of the road.
He was the most qualified. The problem with Conan is he just didn't cut it. Jay was the last good host of the Tonight Show.
"It's on the receipt." 🙂
Jay is awesome. All that Conan nonsense tarnished him. He didn't do anything wrong.
Conan sucks
The whole Conan Leno thing was NBCs fault. They should have let Leno go until he retired or his ratings started to fall. Then Conan could have went to ABC or Fox and would probably still be on today.

Okay..Leno is from New England....Where the hell is New England..No really, exactly where is New England??
Agreed. Carson had less of an ego, was more of a vessel for others.

Good replacement for Johnny. I remember him defending the Bible one of guests was deriding. Jay said `that`s the bible you know`.

He was number one in the ratings, but I am sure his image was tarnished.
Boneheadism. I had to stop the vid to finish my laugh so I wouldn't miss anything. That's saying something of a comedian.
So Jays dad was a yelp reviewer before yelp was a thing.
He told the same VCR and receipt jokes on the Tonight Show tonight.
If only there was a way to go back in time. The future sucks!
ON JOHNNY CARSON'S SHOW..
Notice they garbled up something about his accountant at around 7:50

Jay's not in the least bit funny. Those who like him do so because of his political standing (conservative Republicans).
