Salut! Hope you guys enjoyed the mix of my personal story getting to France and some tips for anyone thinking about making the big move. I didn't have a lot of money when I decided to move abroad, nor did i have a huge plan. But with a lot of determination and some planning, I made it happen and i know you guys can too! The benefits of living abroad are so worth struggle to make it happen! Keep dreaming big and subscribe to catch episode 2 of spilling the tea! Bisous
I am Canadian and 30 years ago following a break up l decided to go to France. I had 10,000 canadian dollars and no job waiting for me upon arrival. I had the benefit of knowing a few people which helped. I was already bilingual and took small babysitting jobs. I met someone, got married 4 months later and the marriage lasted 14 years. I am still here in Savoie on the ltalian border and never looked back.
I am an American educated hong konger, i met a french girl in china, i left my life behind got married, moved to France. The marriage lasted 5 years. I just want to be somewhere i am treated best. France is not the place. I don't look back, but I look forward. I will move back to Asia.
Wow! How did you get a residence permit without a job? I believe you can only stay 3 months then you need to apply for a longer stay which requires like a employer paper or something?
Wow, you're really lucky Leonardo, cause in the south of France the weather is much more pleasant (really, really more) than in Paris. In addition, Toulouse is a magnificent city (I live in Perpignan, which is 200 km south of Toulouse), very lively, with a gastronomy renowned throughout the world, a lot of animation, very cultural and with a lot of young people. The sea (Mediterranean), the mountains (Pyrenees), the Spanish border (where I live) are 200 km (124 miles) away. Which makes it the ideal city to discover France. People here in the south are much quieter than in Paris, much less stressed. It's therefore the ideal city to discover the "French way of life". I think if you don't know France at all but you're very curious and a little "adventurous", you'll be really out of place (in the good sense of the word) and will make fascinating discoveries. In any case, I wish you a very pleasant stay with us. You're welcome here. :)

I lived in France for 25 years. My 3 kids were born there. I’m back in the US now, with my kids and French husband! Roles are reversed! I wish I had seen this video 25 years ago! You have great humor and insight!
I would say the hardest thing for me when moving to France was how exhausted my brain felt trying to learn French and all I heard was French(obviously) and my mind is trying to grasp it and understand it. Living in Montpellier I never really heard ppl speaking English. It’s hard to not feel frustrated when trying to learn a language so you can fit into to the world you choose to live in. I will say that 95% of the ppl I had to interact with were very kind and understood that French does not come easy as a second language. Especially when your an adult trying to learn. Love your videos 👍🏼
I absolutely love it!!! The city is small. Well for me it is as I am from Toronto Canada. I found that as long as you make the effort to speak French majority of the ppl are patient with you and if they know any English they will switch to it. The amount of Apologies I would hear for their poor English. Which always shocks me seeing that France is a French speaking country and they are helping me out by speaking English. No apologies needed. In the city centre it’s very lively as there are so many university students so it’s a great vibe. I found it to be quite a relaxed city. The flow is great. There are a few expat pubs and great meetups as well. I always felt really safe bday and night. The tram system is great as well. You can really get everywhere in the city and outskirts with it. The temperature year round is perfect. The winters I found were not cold. I grew up with snow and ice for 5 months of the year. So 8 degree winter is great. Good luck with your move and hopefully you enjoy this beautiful city
Best video you’ve done! Well-edited, organized, great lighting, perfect talking speed, very natural, beautiful hair and outfit.....plus I learned a lot! Great job!
Being a jeune fille au pair, based off several experiences I have heard (and my own) is risky business likened to indentured servitude. I would not recommend it unless you have a financially solid plan B, it's so hard to make enough money to move out so you kinda are dependent on them and whatever home life stability (or not) they've created. Loving all the tea you spill !

Can you do a video on your time in Scotland and why you loved it? In 11 years when my youngest step child is 18 and we are free to move abroad, we want to move to the UK. I’m a dual citizen of the UK and US (grew up in the US my whole life and never left the country until last year when I was 28). We were initially thinking England, but because my husband and I have a blended family with 6 kids and want to get a huge house where our kids and grandkids can all come visit us, and we also want land, we’ll most likely need to buy in Scotland instead of England. We went to England and 8 other countries last year, and plan to go to Scotland and England next year when we no longer need to quarantine for 2 weeks before traveling.
I must have been really influenced by Americans when it comes to yoga pants. (sidenote, I don't do yoga, I don't do sports or workouts either.) I replaced tights with leggings and yoga pants, and sometimes I just wear them alone. Who cares. It's practical and comfortable, and if you decide it's stylish enough, it is. (sidenote 2, I don't have the figure to make yoga pants look good.) American people who want to come to France, pack your yoga pants if that's what you like to wear. Pack some jeans too, of course.

Listening to stories of how people moved to another country is like hearing people tell how they fell in love. Always interesting. Never repeatable. And if you listen carefully you can catch some tips that will be helpful. Thanks for the spilled beans Kate. Poitiers is a pretty cool place. But I suspect you'll get into some difficultés there. I often think France and Texas are opposites. I find Texans to be a fairly cool bunch. But Texas itself? I can't stand the heat and the land. And it is often said that France is a great country, except for the presence of the French. And as you know the French can be charming and infuriating all at once. I can't wait to hear more. And it sounds like that jerque Pierre left a scar and an addiction for France itself. Strange how that goes. (Did you have much of French thing before meeting the French thing?)
I moved with 19 to Berlin . If it wasn't for University of Arts and my career would be truly hard. Shoking at first, now I even like the rude and direct German way of communication.
I am ready to go, but I want to find a job as an aupair. Is there a way to find a job before I leave? and you spoke about $2500, but if I don't yet have income, how much do you think I could get by on?
Hi ! Any info on a "reverse tapif" ? I am a French speaker, native language, but i spent 2 years in Australia and almost 3 in New-Zealand so my English is pretty good. I would love to go to Ireland but quit Hospitality for a bit and maybe teach French
Hey! I know that in the US that have similar exchanges to teach French. I think you can find more information at aefe.fr/ and www.mlfmonde.org/recrutement/. I'm not sure if the requirements are the same as they are TAPIF, but hopefully that helps you!
Some of private and public universities have a quota for foreign students, but I think the rights has been multiply by 2 or 3 for some countries. The best is to seek informations on the website of universities.

How large a role has dating played into your situation? Do you think it is important to have a romantic relationship to stay? I'm really nervous about dating in france o.o
Good question! I met my husband 5 years after I was in France and I was already super attached to living here. I think dating someone local always creates a stronger foundation because you have a good support system when thinks get rough and you tend to integrate faster. BUT, I have lots of friends who aren't married or dating anyone seriously and have been in France for 10 plus years too. I think everyone's situation is different. Don't put pressure on yourself to date someone local, but it's definitely fun if it happens ;)

Latin + Arabic, at least.
Pronunciation--- French +Portuguese both use nasal vowels.

Bonne, chance!!!
I’m from Los Angeles but grew up in Germany with the Army!
I miss Europe and I love Paris!
Any tips for families doing an extended stay (6 mo) in Paris?
I have 3 kids 15, 13, 2. Merci!
I really want to visit Paris thanks to yep u guessed it emily in paris. I actually had a trip to Paris booked but corona cancelled that, we were going back in April but didn't get there but I will visit for sure. When I get more organised and start saving for a house I'm really interested in restarting my life in another country, I grew up with a great family but I just don't feel like I fit in here and if given the option I would move to out of the UK and I really want to visit Paris
Hi Kaaate !
Ive been watching your videos and i looove the spirit ! I am currently in Bordeaux and wanted to be able to find whatever job this year, im very flexible like if ill have to study, i will. I got a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy in my home country. Im wondering if during your Master 2 , you had to do a master’s thesis ? And was it in english ?
Xptdrrrrrrr i cant i almost choked on my couscous. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
1:22 into the video and she resumed my whole life in France : "nan c est pas possible" "vous voyez des fraises derrière moi, mais on en vend pas" xptdrrrrr
I lived in the US, when i came back in France, it was slap on the face.
This intro has me dying of laughter. LOVE IT.
Thanks Dorian!! 😍
That’s a amazing video ! Thank you :)
Glad you liked it!
Hello ! I want to follow your steps too ! Where to find the English jobs in families that you explain ? Thank you !
You should have way more subscribers for your great content!!
I feel ya, it's so comfortable to wear Yoga pants everywhere!
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified Yoga pants and leggings should be forbiden in France and girls wearing these horrors fined 10 000€. C'est une atteinte sérieuse au bon goût
Hi! Weird question, but where are your jeans from? They're so cute 😍
When I read "why I moved to France at 22" I automatically translated the "at 22" by 10 pm ;-))
:-D
🤣
Only English language courses taught universities in Turkey are Bosphorus Univ., METU Ankara, Bilkent American Univ., Hacettepe Univ., Koc Univ., Sabanci Univ., Yeditepe Univ., Bahcesehir Univ., Ozyegin Istanbul University where after 1 or 2 years of prep english all courses are taught in english language. Galatasaray Univ. is only in French language. We are all from highest society, diligent, dexterious which those above alumnis lenient only to western culture.
❤️❤️ Recently watching EMILY IN PARIS
I can't wait to watch this! Heard it just came out!
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified Please let us know what you think of it! As a Canadian who did an internship in Paris, I could relate to some of her struggles. However, the French/Parisian stereotypes were majorly blown out of proportion! But I did watch the whole show in one day haha
Me too!
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified You never talk about the difference to drive a car in France, or about French cinema, french music, French tv, and all of this kind of cultural things about France. I think it could be a good subject for an upcoming video. :)
Best intro ever 😂
Thank you!!
Love it! I’m determined to move to France 😍🥰
Why Am I relating to this? Hahahaha I’m in that saving moment right now! Like hell I’m not eating anything anymore saving all that penny! 😂😂😂😂
spill the tea sis 😌🍵
That's the plan!! :)
Unintentionally Frenchified 😌😌😙😙
You are giving me LIFE
I am looking to venture , here but maritime Alps
Are there any programs you’ve heard about for building trades exchange (fellow Iowan looking abroad). I am an experienced electrician.
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified Thank you very much for that
What was the name of that teaching program?
My goodness the "we don't sell strawberries here" part hit WAY too close to home. Paris is good like that hey...
Is it hard to enroll for Americans at the Sorbonne?
Some of private and public universities have a quota for foreign students, but I think the rights has been multiply by 2 or 3 for some countries. The best is to seek informations on the website of universities.
Love it
Bachelor degree in France is 400 euro a year, is that same for non EU resident like American?
Hello Friend, I started watching you because of Emily in Paris. I have no plan of moving to France. I am disable and on Social Security. I am not going to learn France. I am 63 years old. That is too much work for me.
Une jolie blonde américaine... Je ne pense pas que ca a été terriblement difficile de trouver un autre frenchie!
Signé: un frenchie qui a trouvé sa propre jolie blonde américaine au Wisconsin (il y a déjà 20 ans)! 😉
At 44, an I too old to emigrate to France? Or to be a student? I'm bilingual (spanish/english) I don't know if that would help a little bit
Maybe you could do some master program or even studies ...check if there are scholarships ... studing language is always a possibility
Its probably the best time to go - don't get me wrong, but at that age you will soon need to visit doctors more often and enjoy life at a slower pace, and as such you will love living in France: Peace of mind.
This was soo interesting!! But when you say Frenchie, I think of a french bulldog 😂
Ok so she settled in Scotland to live with her french lover and got dumped a few months later (which is really sad actually) then she decided to settle in France for... humm... a reason. No, it still doesn't make any sense. It would have been just as easy to stay in Scotland (an honorable option, far better than going back to the U.S. and admit the failure)
She could have stayed in Scotland indeed. Maybe she just preferred France.
I thought she meant she had moved to France with him.
Of course it makes sense? It’s called living your life and she maybe wanted to learn French? Live in France? Any more silly assumptions Lol
You obviously haven't been to Scotland nor France ...
Be careful of the fashion police in France :)
They can be quite harsh right!
Hello I love your channel! I’m French and lived in LA and California for 20 years...I’m still a resident and I can’t still so many years ago make up my mind about staying in France please help I feel desperate :(
lol I moved to france at 22 too XD
BTW how can someone dump you ??!! Wtf
Go hawks!
We tend not to give value to what we got free/easy ;)
You seemed a little more "animated" in this video than you normally do. What did you mix into your tea? ;-)
😃😃
Wasn't a tea for me but a beer... Seems that my erasmus in Flanders got me more than I through
hahaha i think a beer was a good choice. I'm really inclusive when it comes to drinking but nothing hits the spot like a beer after a rough day!

Girl, you've got some gusto! No cry baby snowflake in you.
I wonder whats drawn on your husband's cup 😂
How dangerous is it because I heard that they have a horrible refugee crisis and that is really really dangerous?
That's not true.
