- Adam Kinzinger is a U.S. representative (R-Ill). He is one of two Republicans to serve on the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. Kinzinger served in the Air Force and continues to serve as a pilot in the Air National Guard.
This interview was conducted by the Kirk Documentary Group’s Mike Wiser for FRONTLINE on May 18, 2022. It was filmed for a forthcoming documentary, "Lies, Politics and Democracy."

and they're gonna be on their way out. they can't keep their seats because they're too old; and secondly, they still support trump. that is a losing combination. trump will think that 1 republican victory versus 5 or 6 new democratic seats in the senate will be a win. but it wont. it will be his coffin. senate will then be majority democratic ; and trump will be thrown in jail.

@@jodief9970 I don't agree with his political policies, but he did the right thing. He and Cheney. It really says more about you, than it does about him that you consider him a grandstander. He was very honest in this interview, especially about the first impeachment hearing. He gave his reasoning, and I don't agree with him. It shouldn't matter how quickly it happened. But he's a good, moral, democracy minded representative and I'll be sad to see him go. Too bad you can't separate the party from the person. He was a big enough individual that he could separate party from country, and we should all be glad he did.

All we needed to do was see Trump’s tweets and television speeches. When people are saying now that Trump had nothing to do with Jan 6. A blind person could see it.

He lies in the first two minutes about Charlottesville and claims Trump didn't denounce white nationalists. "the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally" -direct quote from President Donald Trump during the Charlottesville speech.
@@slipperysnot If you actually care about truth, you have to admit that Trump sent decidedly mixed messages after Charlottesville, and also refused to condemn the Proud Boys (“stand back and stand by” - obvious code for “I’ll give you marching orders soon”) during the first debate of 2020. Anyway, Kinzinger is telling the truth about Trump’s lies about the election, and that’s more than can be said about 90% of Republicans these days

The non-partisan way he approached this interview with blunt honesty regardless of which party he was talking about really impressed me! I may not agree with all of his political views but I can't help respect him for his integrity. The US needs more people like Adam Kinzinger on both sides of the aisle! Having the courage and the desire to do the right thing no matter the cost to oneself are highly admirable characteristics and should be applauded by all, no matter party affiliation.
Yes, this country needs more Representatives like Congressman Adam Kinzinger.
We raise our children this way and it’s the foundation on which I built my business with great success, to always do the right thing regardless of the outcome because I believe in the longterm it will always benefit you. When I look at todays political environment I often wonder am I the only person left that feels this way ? We need more folks in our country and in Washington like Kinzinger and Cheney that put morals and values over political gain and short term victory. I still believe in the end doing the right thing wil prevail. God bless our country and may they find the courage to do the right thing.
And at the age of 44 Kinsinger holds the current rank of Lt. Colonel as a pilot in the Airforce National Guard after two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Representative Rigell, I have a quick question for you that I've been wanting someone with your experience to answer. Within your own party, when there is so much cowardice or lack of integrity dominating the political landscape, why does shame not have a stronger impact on elected individuals? Is it because you're constantly surrounded by colleagues whose presence supports bad behavior for political survival? I'm thinking about the 30 or so Senators today who turned their back on supporting Vets on the PACT Act vote. The cognitive dissonance between the rhetoric and the action is just so hard to wrap my head around. Any inside opinion would be interesting and valuable. Having known more than a few military pilots, I admire Adam Kinzinger but he does not surprise me. They are almost invariably intelligent, principled souls intolerant of magical thinking because what they do is so thoroughly rooted in reality. They went to the moon after all. The citizens, election board "re-drew" the area he was representing after his vote to impeach trump. He stood by the oath he took both as a member of Congress and military personnel to uphold the law of the coutry.
Hopefully, we will see him as a special commentator on a news program. Whatever his choices are he will do well..

I never saw myself becoming an ardent fan of any politician but this man is brilliant. Definition of a patriot, and to see his passion listening to the officers testimony moved me. I cried on 1/6/21. I think because it was everything I feared for four years, and what it really meant for us all still breaks my heart. To know our government is losing some of the only individuals willing to fight for our country instead of their positions is seriously scary though, and also disheartening. People like Liz and Adam are so desperately needed and im anxious to think what might happen without them there to be the voices of reason that they have been...

I cried so much on that day, and numerous times since. It is disheartening that this happened, and I hope that some good can come from the efforts of those who have tried to make a difference. It looks at times that they stand alone. I hope they know how appreciated they are.

As a member of congress, regardless of party, I can't comprehend how anyone could choose not to have tremendous respect for Adam Kinzinger. Within his own party, his decisions, his actions and his words, unfortunately, have required courage beyond measure. Adam and I may not share every political perspective, but I continue to find the ability to have faith in American democracy, in large part, because of Republicans like himself, who refused to stay silent.

Let’s not forget Liz Chaney. I most definitely am on opposite side but they both have my admiration. I am so disappointed with the rest of them. Romney even. There was a windows of opportunity to speak up to their constituents. Romney and alike have gravely missed it. It was Crucial then. But now 😡 I spoke to a coworker who is so blinded by the lies. We admire each other bc up till now, we can work quite well under the circumstances. But today we touched the surface (she believes Election loss) and I explained the 60+ lawsuits they lost due to no proof. We maintained civility. But she believes nonsense. I just said I am disgusted with the dishonesty & misinformation affecting us. She agreed.

It feels like such a disappointment to not be able to see eye to eye on something as important as this. It feels puzzling to me to be divided on a matter as important as this one.
He did his job, nothing more. Even as he sits here talking about denouncing white nationalism, he voted against the voting rights act, he voted against police reform, he voted against many civil rights issues...the main one to focus on would be the voting rights act that would ensure that our democracy would be upheld by ensuring that every citizen had access to the ballot box, and that gerrymandering would no longer be an issue in states.
He voted with Trump enough times to show that he agreed with his "policies" more than he didn't.
While I vehemently am in opposition to Mr. Kinzinger's political philosophy, I applaud his allegiance to his oath and commitment to preserving our democracy.
Just imagine a world where every politician was as articulate and honest as this ❤️👍

I wasn't a fan before watching this interview, but I certainly am afterwards. I admire his candor and courage to literally stand on his principles for how he believes this country should be governed; even though I do not agree with him politically. But if he were to run, I'd be satisfied that if elected, then this country would be in good hands.

I am glad to hear him talk about his regrets. I think that is the problem. People are afraid to admit they were wrong. Also, when he talked about social groups. I have had to live this because I never supported Trump and it has affected my relationships with long time friends and with family. I am just afraid that we were all too late.

I like this Frontline Interview and sadly expect this episode to be banned because Donald Trump, Lauren Boebert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene calls this interview "Indoctrination". Wait for the Qanon wing of the RNC call for the censorship of PBS Frontline, PBS News hour and your affiliate because there are some Ex-Republicans, and current RNC Members like Adam Kinzinger + Liz Cheney who are either blowing the whistle on the Qanon Wing or investigating the January 6th, Insurrection and most likely future Insurrections in November due to congressional and Governor's elections.
