Thanks for taking the time to post this. I have a toshiba 50l3400u that has the lower section darker than the upper section. I am in process of taking everything apart right now. hopefully once i finally get to the LED's behind the screen I won't find a shitstorm of something I cannot try to fix. I don't know what the hell I am doing, but can't break what already seems to be broke...unless I crack the screen, then I will have broke something that wasn't broke.
Great video man! Based on what you showed me I'm sure I need to replace the bottom LED strip. Do you have a video or know of a video that details the disassembly of the TV to get to the LED strips?
Well I thought something was up it didn't look like a regular voltmeter. Now I have to read in your reply it makes a lot of sense great video by the way I believe that's what's wrong with my TV the bottom set of LEDs about 4 to 6 in high or out it's a 50 inch Toshiba maybe one day I'll take the time and fix it
Question for Diego. I was given this exact tv to fix and keep, or dump. Like you described, the top half or so of the screen is covered by a black veil. Before I proceed with changing the led lights, I read else where that it could be a T-con issue. It seems to be logged somewhere in the rim. I'm looking for schematics or indications where to find it and its number, to find a replacement online, if applicable. Thanks for your help Pierre
so what was the problem? The power supply? the LED ? a Diode? mine has that but in weird occasions, lets say my Tv is on at first WHEN IT WORKS. ill plug my laptop and ill resize the screen, the screen quickly turns off and back on , you know it makes a transition, after that transition my lower part of the screen is dark, and it stays like that, now if i resize it again my tv wont turn back on, so i gotta keep up like that, now recently , everytime i turn it on, i see Toshiba and then 5 seconds later the whole screen kinda fades out to black, as if it gets drown in water but the water is black you know what i mean? i can see the Backlight on and if i open the back i can see theyre on, sometimes i have to let it chill for 3-4 days and try it again for it to work, do you know what that could be ?
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question for you. Do i need to buy 2 strips for this tv or only 1 strip? I mean, one at the top and one at the bottom or it`s only one in the top? Thanks. I have the same problem, thinking about changin it by myself.
I noticed when you were measuring the voltage it looks like you were measuring it on the cable that went to the LEDs and not the circuit board itself. how are you getting the 40-some volts the end of the cable when it wasn't connected to the circuit board or was I missing something thank you
Lol Tom. I'm using a led tester. This device is a powered power supply that will output as much as the resistance allows.. it's a very neat device because this also measures capacitors. But u usually use it for LEDs.
Yeah I have the same tv and the bottom part of mine has become darker then the rest of the tv and as long as it doesn’t cost more to fix it then buying a new tv I can get it fixed.
I fixed mine with the over-heating issue of the chip. I modified a CPU aluminum heat-sink from my old computer and put some fans on it to keep it cool. It worked awesome for a few days and still works. The problem now is the 4 LED's on the side. 1-2-4 work, but now 3 stopped so now there is a black spot on the right-hand side. Is this the main board? Or is there another issue? If there are 2 zones and only 1 LED is not lit-up then it either burnt out, or came unplugged. Not sure if I need a new board and which one, or is the whole TV trash and I need to buy another. Please let me know THX.
Hmm. Just depends. Most likely an led in that circuit has burned out causing a short. Check voltages on all zones of the power supply and see if you have 4 zones. If you do get voltages on them, then it's gonna be the led array strip. If you don't then it could be the power supply. If it is the power supply, you could try to jump to the dead zone using the other zone and see it works. Good luck.
I got a 2007 model Toshiba Model Number 57HM167 manf June 2007 so its not above 2009 and has no HDTV capability and that is the only antenna I have which works fine on my VISIO TV. I do have a converter for converting older model TV's so they receive digital HDTV signals changing to analog but it will not work for the Toshiba. A problem I see comes up when turned on the screen itself has many white dots on it, looks like a space broadcast of the stars but none ever change position & stays stable the entire time I am working with the menu using the new GE UltraPro Universal Remote. I do a scan for channels and none are detected using this antenna, so I believe this Toshiba is mainly for cable TV use only, not HDTV usage. I am using channel 3 for the down conversion channel operational scan and nothing being detected seems illogical the Toshiba has a antenna reception menu choice. There is no images at all just that stary outer space look behind the menu where a channel should appear. I don't know if it is a tuner issue or some screen issue causing this problem on HDTV reception using my converter from the FCC I bought back then. Can anyone help please.
im not 100 percent sure on the star picture,, but i think that has to do with the DLP chip.as far as the tuner, the tv needs to be able to read digital signals.. the way you know if it works is that is you can use the "." or "-" on the remote. if you dont have that feature, then a converter is the way to go.
I believe this is my issue , my 55 went black but when I shine a torch in the screen I can see the picture , thats the back lights I believe , thinking if giving it ago my self aswell as I'm poor 😂
Hi, i´ve Toshiba 46tl966. Last year the inverter was defective and I have replaced it with a similar. (Original part: SSL460 3E1B; Replaced part: SSL460-3E2C). It worked wonderfully. When I months later switched mode in 3D, the backlight failed again. Then I get to see the original part and built up. But without success. Then I swapped out the LED Strip with a new, also without success. (PSU Board is also new). What me surprised, at all three inverter boards can be measured after the turn at the measuring point IS4 no voltage. (IS1 & IS3 have 36 volt and IS2 has 48 Volt for a short time). Also in the T-con may the error be? Or has the LED Strip damage? You have may have an idea what it could be? (Sorry for bad Translation)
i think too, cause after turn on, at the moment when the voltage is measurable, you can hear a "Bzzz" as if there is a short circuit. i´ll gonna check the Pins at the connector. it wasn´t easy to put the connectors together, maybe one pin is brocken or curved.. thx ;-)
Found the error. When installing the display I probably came with the inner Plexiglas disc on the LED strip and I have damaged 2 LEDs. So I could hear the sound of a short circuit. Unfortunately, the plug is also broken, which is why I have to order both anew. So wait another three weeks for the spare parts from China to arrive at my place. Next time I'm more careful when installing;-)
Here you can see that only 3 of 4 areas of the led-stripe works. i must record it with slowmotion to be able to see it, cause it flashes very short..(at the end of the clip) . ruclips.net/video/ud4hL-ZkLHk/видео.html
Brother I have the same problem with my tv, so what I understood is that the sections of the led strip that do not light is because they had a burned led? I need to replace the led strip but i can't get it i am from México
I have this tv and have a dark section about 6 inches wide on the bottom, do you think it is the led strip. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't?
I'm having the exact same issue with mine. It's about 6 inches on the bottom of the TV - I can still see a picture, it's just much darker than the rest of the screen. Have you replaced the led strips on the bottom yet?
@@TECHIELIFE I have removed the screws. Cover looks like it have some clips. Can I pry it open? I'm afraid to do any damage. I only want to take some pictures of the power supply to order one.
Rob Bidoux could be a bad power supply. But I would put your pins on the output and then turn on the TV. See if you have voltage coming in. It it does and goes away, it could be a fail safe and the LEDs might be bad.

Yeah it's a common issue with a lot of TVs.. word of advice... Just run the backlights about 20 % dimmer. It will make a huge difference.
