- I installed a set of Hotchkis sway bars. Totally worth the money. Bring your BMW to the next level of suspension tuning. Includes track footage.

On the bigger front bar topic - it's going to help reduce push on corner entry. But you will get more push in trailing throttle situations. Getting the rear bar firmer will get you more rotation when trailing throttle instead. Given that you are getting back on the throttle so early in a corner, your front tire wear is from over driving :) You know this, as you know your way around a circuit - getting back on the gas that early is transitioning weight back to the rear tire. So naturally, the car is going to push in this situation. If you like the "fast in, get on gas early" type of driving style (i sure do), then I'd lean towards setting the car up to be looser on entry (whilst braking). That sort of setup works well at TMP.
+boro92 indeed my learning has led me to this conclusion as well. I think I'll be trying for a more aggressive set up for rotation next season. In a final day before I put the car away the car felt really good with the new coilovers but wasn't rotating enough. I'll be getting a proper set up and alignment before anything serious next year.
Sweet! Do you only go to TMP? Any SMP or CTMP?
Nice Video and cool mod. Also, keep in mind that the tires you are running on plays a huge role in the handling characteristics. Low profiles really help keep the stiffness around corners and better steering response due to reduced sidewall flex.
Wow! Never seen you like this fit. Anyway nice video I'm researching about anti roll bars and strut bar
I’d love to see a review of Hotchkis, Turner or CSL sway bars on a stock e46 M3 please 🙏🏻
RIP headphone users lol, good video man. Looking to upgrade my sway bars 👍🏻
if you just look at the e46spec rules you will see the e46 dont like stiff springs on the track they like soft springs huge sway bars and lots of neg camber and pos caster. on mine I just put the e46 m3 front and rear springs and gave me around 5.5-60 of pos caster and around 2.5-2.8 neg camber
The springs themselves gave you that camber? How, by the lowering effect?
neither, the tophat is offset. the ride height is tiny difference. (sadly the sachs strut shaft is incompatible between the m3 and non-m so you cant just swap the top hat out ou can get the whole shbang from an e46 m3 own switching to coilovers..) best mod for track/autox is this and any cheapo rear adjustable camber arms.
Ahh right I see. Thats a good idea. I think I might go all the way and do a coilover conversion for the adjustability later on.
Awesome video TH! Very informative. Love these cars. & at the track, did you drive with traction control on or off?
What setting did u end up leaving them at? Full stiff front and rear?
You mentioned you have the ZSP package. Are you still running the staggered wheel setup ? If yes, be aware that this also induces understeer. For a slightly unorthodox experiment, switch the wider wheels to the front, and the narrower ones to the rear. This will have pretty much the same effect as installing a stiffer/larger rear sway bar.
great video
great video as always, but 1 correction if I may. can u decrease volume of intro? it is really loud compare to your talking and I have to adjust my volume every time, on pc and on smartphone as well....and secondly, can we see videos of track days? that would be awesome...
+Gabriel Ghatchava I will have a whole series of trackday videos coming soon!
Were you intentionally inducing power oversteer in the first 2 corner clips on the track to test out the sway bar?
Pretty much. The car barely has enough power to power oversteer so it was a combo of that and going into the corner a bit hot. That set up that day felt very balanced.
What Exhaust do you have installed? Sounds Great!
+Brian Key just a magnaflow muffler
Should I get this with h&r sport speings
Is there a reason why on my 2003 bmw E46 325i the rear sway bar links brak soon after I replace the broken ones ?
Just a bit of constructive criticism; when you're filming with your GoPro on the track mount it to the side so you can see more than he rear view mirror it's much more immersive for the viewer. Don't know why everybody gets that wrong
Thanks
You live in guelph?
hi want to install 30mm sway bar on my coupe z4 but afraid about crack on subframe due to thicker sway bar
is there any risk ? please note i will not use it on track but sometime fast road driving around home
hotckis uses adapters plate on sway bar bracket to reinforce the subframe but don’t know how it could be reinforce just by putting a simple plate ?
thks
Reinforcement plates add an extra layer to the subframes “weak spots” or areas that are more prone to damage than others. Thicker subframe area = stronger subframe area, in the simplest terms. Check out Garagistic they have a couple different kits for the e46 chassis from front or rear setups to the whole car and at not a bad price either. You can also add strut tower plates that just bolt on and super inexpensive
What the hell is Zet SP? It's ZeeHP!!! Be manly!
Who are these weirdos commenting on your videos T.H? Can I call you T.H?
You're pretty cute for a BMW driver...
Jesus seriously?
