Interesting. Almost everyone list the GT Air/GT Air 2 as Shoei's touring/sports touring helmet. Shoei's own website describes the GT Air 2 as "SHOEI’s premiere full-face touring helmet". Most of the bikes designed for touring have tall fairings and wind screens. What you’re saying kind of contradicts what everyone else is saying about this helmet.

Very thorough review. I have had two originals, and just bought a second gen. Can’t wait to compare the two. Only helmet that ever fit my head just right. 👍👍🇨🇦

Same for me. Tried the Neotec and I am not comfortable. GT Air is the only one that fits as if molded on my head.

Great review. I purchased it this past March 2021. I was expecting a much quieter sound a highway speed. I can really hear the wind coming through the vents. Overall build quality is great. I use it when riding a Gen 1 Busa. The windscreen doesn't effect me, even in high speed truck. But everything is louder in full tuck. Thanks, very detailed review. Stay safe.

My experience with GT AIR II is very good, i have no complaints. I have windscreen on my bike and even so my GT AIR II is very quiet. Anyone who is complaining about noise coming in by the upper air intake, confirm that it is not leaking air, you have to try spraying it with water to see if it enters the helmet. I had a Neotec II with this problem. Greetings to all.

Just placed an order for one of these.. hoping they'll be a lot more quiet than my current helmet. Riding a naked bike without a windscreen.. cant wait 👌🏼

Ha! Very interesting observation about the windscreens. I just saw another review where the reviewer had a windscreen and said the vent at the top caused extra buffeting.
Another thing I've learned is, if the helmet doesn't fit properly, i.e. very snug, it can also be loud. If you put the helmet on, it should be fairly hard to get on. If it isn't. you have a size too big and you are losing out on the design to keep it quiet.

Avila beach... I ride down to the SLO area once or twice a month, from Humboldt County. (No, I'm not involved in THAT industry. lol)
You hit some important features, nice review.
I used to be a Shoei only guy. I ran a RF900 or 1000, 1st nice helmet years ago. I then ran a Shoei Multitech, modular helmet for over a decade. Yes, longer than I should have. Loved them. I started branching into other helmets HJC, Schuberth, Bell, recently a Simpson Mod Bandit, and I have a Ruroc Berserker heading my way. I've never ran an Arai but heard great things about them. The Schuberth E-1 gave me a cone head because of the shape of the interior. The HJC RPHA 70 st is a good helmet my only faults with it are that the ear cutouts for speakers seem a bit shallow, and I don't like where the inner shield's lever is located. (That is another positive for the Shoei GT Air 2) I had a couple HJC modular helmets but the inner shield's lever always went bad with them otherwise great helmets for a bargain price. I bought a retro Bell, so I can't compare it to the modern styled helmets, no visor, etc... I ran the Simpson Mod Bandit on my last trip to SLO and it is comfy and light. The visor flexes like that review said about the GT Air 2. lol The inner shield comes down on my nose and I have to fidget with it at times but the last couple of times I wore it locally it seems like it might have been my donning of the helmet because it hasn't happened. Jury is still out on that one. The Ruroc, I ordered in L because that is what their figment chart said to go with and it is my usual size. It arrived and was way too large. I'm awaiting a Medium replacement after I sent it back on my own dime at $113 .
My opinion, if a Shoei fits someone's head shape then buy one, you'll love it. They are top quality. (I know, long way to say that.)

Wow you have had a lot of helmets for sure! I had a bell before and I did not like it at all but it could have been just that model. It was particularly loud and uncomfortable. Very cool that you are familiar with this area, I did a ride to the beach video of Avila here if you haven't seen it yet ruclips.net/video/Wax5PP7dNSI/видео.html
I'm very new to motovlogging as is even more evident in my older videos but I am constantly working to improve the quality. I just got a new mic and am trying to get the video looking better on youtube with a few new tricks I learned so stay tuned for more central coast action!

Good video but you forgot to talk about the sun screen ;-) You can switch it with the button on the left side of the helmet.

Very loud wind noise in helmet coming from the sides where the SENA is installed. The v shape at bottom middle causes it. My ancient RF1000 is way more quiet. Everything else is great.

So I was thinking I would get the GT Air 2, but now....... I'm expecting delivery of the new Indian Super Chief Limited. It comes with a wind screen. I definitely want a BT com system on my new helmet. Recommendations for a quite helmet adaptable for a BT device? I'm not sure an open face helmet would be right, but then again I do have a fairly large windscreen on that bike. Still researching........

Just ordered one but ride an Africa twin with windscreen so now I’m a little nervous. Maybe I should have waited for rf 1400 to come out?

Depending on the size of your windscreen and your riding height your experience can vary greatly. I hope you have a positive experience with it, if not hopefully you have a good return policy from the place you purchased. Whatever you do find out we would love to hear how it ends up for you!

  • @bruno84

Bought mine a few days ago. Really disappointed though.
Helmet's the right size, but not only it isn't that quiet (always a bit subjective) but it also makes this weird noise as if someone's blowing air over and open bottle of coke. That weird noise disappears if I force the chin protection against my chin or if I cover the back of my head. Maybe it's not appropriate for my type of head (oval) but I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it would be like this.

GT AIR & GT AIR II... Sena integration is not the only difference. There are many improvements.

@@digitalmotorhead5323 just commenting where you said there is no difference between gt air 1 and 2 but the sena integration where in fact there is a bigger sunvisor, more aerodynamic, more air flow and more...👍

@@digitalmotorhead5323 I ordered one 2 days ago from champion helmets in the Netherlands. Best price online. After trying it in store... comfort and features... had to get one. Currently have the nxr/rf1200 and think this will be much better on a naked bike with my current brick of a cardo bold on the side. I liked your video. Cheers

    Hello sir....
HJC RPHA 70 ST or SHOEI GT AIR 2 which would u suggest for touring???

    • @digitalmotorhead5323
      @digitalmotorhead5323  3 года назад +1

I'm sure they both would work well but I would give a slight advantage to the HJC. It is designed to be a hybrid sport/touring helmet and although I can't speak from personal experience, if you read the reviews, a lot of people say it is very comfortable. It's also a better price. Having a windshield on a touring bike takes away the benefit of the gt air 2 and can even make that helmet noisier depending on the height of it. Hope that helps!
