It's a shock to the senses when you first arrive. All the noise, smells, colors. Imagine going to work everyday in the west 9-6pm on your daily commute where everyone is suited & booted. Your town centre is shopping malls, clean and clinical. All of a sudden you to come to India, Bangladesh or Pakistan and this is how it is.
Thanks for all these videos. Put me down as one of the people who appreciate you showing us ordinary people living their lives and the beauty they live around. I think we all have seen enough malls, or fashionable places to eat in our own lives. Keep treating people with peace, respect and love and don't listen to the bots acting like or people who have their own agenda!
Those metal cage rickshaws are badass! We need them all over the world!!! Market energy can't be beat. Excellent work!!! Loved the village video the guide was helpful and nice.
One thing I enjoy about these videos is the little interactions you see between people. Example around 8:25 when the driver of a rickshaw taps a man as he's driving by, just to warn him about his back tire. Really interesting dynamics!
Another awesome vid by the traveler, really enjoy this run of vids. Sights that was never seen before by most people. You don't get any more real than this. Cheers
Speaking for myself, I appreciate the way Gabriel travels through the countries he visits. Sure, I'm always interested in the financial side of his wandering, but that isn't generally his primary focus. What keeps me coming back is the kinda Zen way he accepts and flows with the culture he encounters. I wouldn't be at all interested in seeing only the biggest and best of whichever country he travels through.
Gabe, you are my favourite you tube traveller, great film, info, I've learnt so much with your vlogs, I'm going to take the plunge and go to Thailand and Turkey. Stay safe and enjoy everyday.
the bangla spoken in BD 🇧🇩 is a very spl. dialect as it infuses a lot of emotion with the utterance of the worlds unlike the indian dialects the guy was agitated because of the maddening crowd and traffic, he was telling others to move aside quickly to make a passage for your easy movement while holding the camera as he noticed that you are not a local
Hi Gabriel, this was interesting at the end of the walk you met a couple of guys one of these guys is wearing a NY Yankee cap, and in NYC in the Bronx, New York there is a Bangladesh community that has moved from Queens NY because of the cost of rent and homes. They're a tight-knit community there changing the landscape of the community and being a part of the new immigrants to the area.
Sreemangal is a sub- district town. It may be noted that in Bangladesh, there are 8 divisional cities, 64 district cities, and almost 500 sub district cities like Sreemangal. But it's unique for mostly tea plantations.
you are part traveller, part sage, maybe a bit of hippie … and that's why we love to experience the journeys with you, how you are roving through life with a calm pace, in diff places, in diff times
11.04 actually in bangla that men said you can't take your cycle from here. As they have different accent and different type of bangla they some time sounds like English some times bangla sometimes something else you felt like he was talking about you.
Hey Gabriel, yeah I'm not gonna go to Bangladesh, too many people and the traffic is horrible. I'll just be content with watching you navigate between traffic. I have noticed one thing: when you stop to talk with someone there will be a crowd around you in no time at all. Imagine if you talked for more than 10 minutes you would probably be stopping traffic. LOL
Look what I found on Wikipedia: The Petrapole-Benapole border ceremony takes place every evening from 1630 to 1700. This joint retreat ceremony of 30 minutes resulting in lowering of national flags of India and Bangladesh is jointly conducted by BSF (Border Security Force) and BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh). The "Wagah of the East" as it is known, the Petrapole-Benapole border ceremony starts off with opening of gates on India and Bangladesh side. After a quick friendly handshake between the BSF and BGB infantrymen, the soldiers march into the "no man's land" in their respective ceremonial dresses and battle dress uniform. Ceremonial theatrics by the BSF and BGB are at the heart of the ceremony and is attended by Military officials of both countries. The ceremonial parade ends before sunset and the flags of either countries are lowered. The gates on either side of the border are closed for the day. Since the border retreat ceremony was initiated in 2013, not many tourists are aware of this event. The crowd at the ceremony consists mostly of locals and very few tourists. After the retreat ceremony, the BSF jawans pose for a photo shoot with civilians or tourists in their ceremonial dress.

Fascinating walk through a huge market in this medium sized city. I am glad that I am watching this through video instead of actually being there!! While watching, I was thinking to myself: I really appreciated the development through the past 4 decades in my own country: China. So not easy to pull a poor country out of poverty!
Hey Gabriel, nice video. Just wanted to clarify, actually, he did not tell you to shut off the camera, he just got confused about which gesture to do on the camera.
You are a brave, brave man. Thank you for the glimpse into a part of the world I will now never visit. These videos made me sad. Such poverty and filth.😫
This is what he wants his viewers to watch and feel about the country “how chaos and dirty” without editing. Not sure this place which is small sub town I think, even gives the whole picture of the country, because I’ve seen much amazing videos about the country which was filmed by the westerner😢
I find vids of Bangladesh so interesting. Yes the cities can be dirty and filthy but to me that is expected. What you are seeing is mass urbanization of a formerly rural population. This is what industrialization looks like - its ugly and brutal. I don't see much social disorder - what I do see is people BUSY working, going to school, travelling, etc. Cities in China looked the same in the 80's. Many people want to project India on to Bangladesh. There is cultural influence of India in Bangladesh but it is very much a different country to India. The population of Bangladesh is homogenous, 98% identify as the same ethnic group and speak the same language. It allows for high social cohesion. No other country in South Asia is like this.
One of these days I'll catch up you travel alot bro me travel the world five times so far plan on seeing Asia again soon having true friends and family seeing the world these days there is nothing else good luck take care 🤠💪👍🌴
The lack of women in these Bangladesh videos (don't think I've seen many walking alone?) is... Interesting. As a woman who loves to wander solo, I enjoy watching Gabe aimlessly stroll through places I'd never feel comfortable on my own. Thanks for doing what you do! 🙏
Hi, I won't feel comfortable to travel solo there either. I've done solo travel but won't do it in this country or neighbouring countries. With a guy friend or a group, it would be OK.
It's a Muslim backward country, that's why. Compare a secular sparsely populated country such as Norway to a country with many mosques such as Bangladesh.
So enjoy these videos of your time here. People seem very kind and not pushy kind and respectful to you and your videoing. I wonder if they have nursing homes ? I imagine the elderly are well taken care of by family. I do not see any handicapped people like you would see in usa like people in scooters etc. Is there a garbage system at all? The streets seem fairly clean. Is the air thick ? Is there an odor in the air of the spices?. Why some men wear the dress or skirt like cover and others mostly in blue jeans? The younger boys seem most interested in you and feel cool to meet you from USA. Great job as always.
Yes, Gopro 10, set at wide angle to capture more of the scene. How do you think it looks, better or worse than the other one? Normally I film with a DJI Osmo Action 1.
Sorry to say that but in some parts this town looks even worse than old Dhaka. Much waste and dirt there on the street, it should smell very bad. And it looks like life didn't move much from 1950s or 1960s there, except for more use of plastics.
Curious to know, how many men are debt collectors, how many are involved in gangs and criminal organizations, what those are in Bangladesh, so much of the workforce is women, what are the able young men engaged in doing exactly? I understand there is a massive military, but aside that?
I could half tolerate the traffic it seems to work for them I guess. However, the heeps and heeps of trash is disgusting and what's worse is they don't seen to care or notice. There are people in the comments accusing Gabriel wanting to make the country look bad because he didnt edit out the chaos and filth. Even though the country is chaotic and filthy.
This place is another world to the eyes of a westerner like me. Thank you so much Gabriel .
Like Africa?

Yes he is filming this himself.
Yep, traveling solo.

Another authentic view of BD. Fish market, crowded and rickshaws. You should try out the river fish delicacies, they are delicious.

Amazing journalism Gabriel......
"not seen a single foreigner all the time here ...." .LOL. I can't think why. " .....to boldly go where no man has gone before "
Fantastic! Loved this, thank you!
The first three minutes is the definition of the term "organized chaos"
16:47 Trying to navigate a huge bus through crazy street. Hats off to the driver !

Loving your Bangladesh series, Gabriel. Wish you'd been here for one month at least. Love from Bangladesh. 🇧🇩

Love seeing the world. Sad they slow for their world to get so dirty and garbage. What a beautiful place if they cleaned it up.

It doesnt really matter where you go in Bangladesh, it is crowded everywhere :-) The population density is amazing.
Hey Gabriel, nice video. Just wanted to clarify, actually, he did not tell you to shut off the camera, he just got confused about which gesture to do on the camera.
I appreciate this video. A chance to see a place that I would never get a chance to set foot on. Thank you.

its pretty funny bc bengal was one of the richest places in the world some time ago, yk before the british came.
Cool. Thanks Gabe. Watch out for all that traffic.
Wow the old jeeps everywhere. Very cool. Bet they are cheap as chips. Be worth a bundle in the west.
You can film man! Don’t be scared the one that shouted is probably a weirdo. The locals and police will back you up 100 percent
Everything looks dirty, thanks for the video, I never wanted to visit countries and cities like this one
Gabriel when the EMR strikes this will be our mode of transport. No electric models.
Hmmmm....what's up with all the garbage in the streets??? Is it that difficult to take your trash and put it in a bag or bin???
Amazing scenes!
I was wondering when someone would comment on your camera..
Love all your tripes/ series, but Bangladesh might be my favorite so far.

nice vlog and editing .....but i am deeply disappointed at the low level of cleanness in Bangladesh .
6:34 did he just spit blood on the ground right next to the fish for sale? wtf
It was probably paan, similar to chewing tobacco. But yeah, super gross.
Nice video❤❤❤
Great video love it love it
11:25 bumped crashed his cycle into the back of the other cycle. Surprised they don't quickly sue each other like we do n the states.
Love these videos of Bengladesh!
Sylhet to Shilong is just 79 miles, is this r u looking for, will you take a taxi?
I'm not sure yet, first I need to get a better idea about whether I can actually cross the land border at Dawki.
There must be a lot of farmers growing all the vegetables..where would that be
He didn’t visit any of those farmers living in villages so far
Far away from this town

Indians and pakistanis are more or less the same people it's bangladeshis who are different
Do you ever get overwhelmed by the exhaust fumes?
Hi Gabriel. When you go to these countries. Do you need to inform the US Embassy of your travel plans in that country.
No, you don't. I've never done that.
Wow what a place x😍👍
now who the hell would want to walk around a mall when yea could experience the absolute chaos of Sreemangal it's like the wild west
Exactly.
Even wild west was cleaner back then in the 19th century. :D
