I was recently on Instagram...and this young lady that travels was in Bangladesh. Her pics were of a lush green paradise. She must have been outside of the city in a resort area. So, of course, I've been dreaming of Bangladesh... def not Dhaka. Is it hard to breathe with all that pollution? Looks really harsh.
I love travelling, I love seeing new cultures. There was nothing about this that made me want to go there. In general I prefer going outside cities. But you've got to see the cities while you are there. That did not look like a fun experience to me, walking those streets.
Hey Gabriel, this was truly a profound capture. I was on the edge of my seat, watching this in anticipation, for when I visit this nation. I’m happy that you made it here and I hope that you enjoy.
That's an intense city, great for vlogging as there's so many local characters willing to be on camera. My barber is from Bangladesh and keeps telling me I should visit, maybe one day. Look forward to part 2!
It's shocking how noisy, crowded, and filthy this place is. Equally disappointing that the people living there don't care enough to clean it up. And yet at the same time--it's a very interesting video. I trust Gabriel will also take us out to the rural areas, where it will be cleaner, and have some views of lovely countryside.
it's not so much that they "don't care", but rather that there are so many millions of people in one place, living in an incredibly impoverished city. there are simply not enough resources and infrastructure to handle it. the residents are certainly to blame, but the government is also not putting in enough effort to remedy the problems. there are over 22 million people living in dhaka and it's surrounding area. to manage such numbers of people takes immense effort. compare that to a city like tokyo where they have a similar population. the difference there, is that there is sufficient taxes and reinvestment in the city that keeps it in order. dhaka is still has a long way to go to improve, but they are trying. it would probably take a century or two to get dhaka to the state a cities ike tokyo, paris or NYC are - and the country as a whole. poverty and corruption is an extremely hard thing to fix

My dream used to be to travel to all 196 UN recognized countries but after experiencing some countries I was like eff that. Some countries are just not worth the hassle, risk of safety for the little cultural return the trip provides. Having a local handler will undoubtedly provide for a better experience but I’d rather spend that extra cash relaxing on the beaches on a Thai island.

It's one of the most amazing countries I've visited. Challenging, yes, but watching Gabe there is bringing back all these memories of my time there 30+ years ago when I was 20. Incredible experiences of paddle steamers on vast rivers; massive formations of fruit bats taking off at dusk; meeting a transgender woman with her friends who seemed to accept that "God put a woman in a man's body"; getting to the island of Sandwip through the awesome tides of the Bay of Bengal on a German-built ship that had to go full steam ahead just to stay still against the falling tide; disturbing memories of a domesticated monkey on a rope harassing a cat; eating at a restaurant where they asked us if we wanted beer and, when we said yes, waiting 25 minutes for a guy to show up with two cans of warm Oranjeboom... Many more.
Gabriel an observation not a negative judgement but that city has to be the dirtiest poorest city I’ve seen on RUclips or ever visited myself .. man it’s got a long way to go
@Kh F even your gulshan or banani or what so ever bangladesh so called modern area still looks 3rd world with very polluted and very dirty. i already saw youtube video a couple from romania called DoDo explorer and they already explored those modern bangladesh which it doesnt looks even modern though and they are still currently in the PHILIPPINES and it is far opposite from what they saw to bangladesh.
Great to see you in Dhaka, Gabe! This is travelin' Makes me think of the George Harrison song "Bangladesh" from 1971 about the war and famine. Hope you get out of the capital. The ferries are quite an experience but i think they've retired all the old 1900s "rocket" paddle steamers by now, or they have sunk. From what I see, there are much nicer ferries to travel on now. Waking up on the river is something you will never forget. For what it's worth, I crossed the land border from India and there's a train to/from the border to Calcutta, so you have other options besides your flight. I was going the other direction from you, but I took a bus from the border crossing to Khulna.
Bangladesh is really only recommended to experienced World travelers. Best for beginners to travel to India atleast 2-3 times before going to Bangladesh.
Once you arrive in Kolkata, do visit the new town area, it is spick and span. However, central Kolkata is a bit crowded . If possible do dig in some bengali food ; recently Kolkata has been chosen as one of the 11 food destinations in the world. Being the seat of British India and the first capital, our city boasts of several heritage buildings and structures like the Victoria Memorial, Marble Palace , Town Hall, Howrah Bridge, St.Paul's Cathedral, High Court area, National Library, Fort William , James Princep Ghat, Metcalfe Hall ,Governor's House and so on. Also try to visit Mother Teresa's House, Rabindranath Tagore's House, Shobhabazar Palace, Dakshineswar Temple and Belur Math. Have a wonderful time in Kolkata. If you have time do visit the hill stations of West Bengal including the world famous Darjeeling!
I visited Kolkata last year. Found central Kolkata very vibrant & full of activity. Took a long walk from Bhawanipur to Howrah Bridge via Burrabazar. Such is the city vibe that the distance didn't bother me
The "weird-looking" monument is the "Zero Point Square" of Dhaka or of Rather Bangladesh from where the road/straight-line distance of all the 64 districts of Bangladesh is measured
Small correction: Neither India nor Bangladesh are Hindu and Muslim countries respectively. Rather they're Hindu and Muslim-majority secular democracies.
Wow! I’m glad you’re there instead of me. It looks absolutely horrendous! I actually came away from watching your video feeling extremely depressed! Those poor people!
When you say hello, and they ask you your name-ask them about the a area like where to go perhaps…? You could take a selfie with them and then show the pictures at the end in a slide show style.
All the red-bearded men are interesting. I read that Bangladeshi men dye their beards with henna as a recent fashion trend b/c they feel it makes them look younger and because Muslim clerics have recently been teaching that Mohammed himself used to dye his beard the same way.
I just would like to point out something. The British people colonised us rather than conquering us. The whole subcontinent was already a unified nation under the mughal which even includes some part of Afghanistan. The Brits basically came here and took over the region that was controlled by the mughals using various nefarious ways for "business". But I do agree that the difference between the 2 words is somewhat blurry. We were conquered by various kingdoms from mughals to Turks to Persians but not the British. There is a difference between colonisation and conquering. Bengali people didn't just become Muslims due to conquering. Islam also doesn't spread by sword. We became majority muslims mainly due to Muslim preachers, Arab/Turks/Persian merchants who came to Bangladesh during the 1400s. Bengali is also a very different language compared to Hindu. The root of Bengali is not Sanskrit, it is Madhya prakrit. Madhya prakrit was a language spoken by people in the far East of South Asia. But yeah due to mixing between Hindi people, Urdu people, Arabic and etc etc people the original Bengali language has somewhat diluted. We Bengalis can understand Hindi people due to Bollywood but Hindi people cannot understand us. So the two languages are actually not so mutually intelligible. And the writing script is also very different.
Thanks for visiting our country. Next time if someone visits please use GPS it'll lead you to the right place they work properly here and use uber or pathau to get one place to another it'll be easier for you. If you don't want to bargaining.

Hi Gabriel, that was an adventure just walking across the city, but I bet it was faster than taking a rickshaw. I just can't get over the traffic in India and Bangladesh it's very unnerving. I just saw a Harry Jaggard video in Bangladesh interesting if you're looking to buy shoes or shirts the marketplace may be a place you want to go.
What an amazing place to visit! The culture is of another world I do agree with many other commenters that I would never want to live there but what a place! The pollution is awful unfortunately that’s really too bad.
I can see why Bangladesh beat the other destinations you were considering. It's hassel free, clean and quite. Just how I like it! You're lucky to meet the fanous Tiger. He's a legend.
Ha Ha, very funny. I would prefer the mentality of the people of Dhaka to the vibe of any US red state red neck capital every time. These people might not have money but they have soul and a sense of hospitality and respect. I prefer filth in the streets to filth in the hearts if the choice is on me.

Gabriel, great to see you in my earlier home city, Dhaka. I didn’t know who told you about royals or pink palace in Dhaka. There are none. That’s why everyone was surprised that you were looking for that. The raw street view is absolutely trademark of Dhaka's chaotic ambience. Initial background music is a wonderful choice. Hope you enjoy Dhaka, and other parts of Bangladesh. Wish you a safe enjoyable tour de force in Dhaka.

@@keangwooichoo6138 This area is too much populated. Road is narrow.although Bangladesh 35th largest GDP In the word but its per capita income it is not much because of higher population. Government try to solve this problem to build metro rail.

@@EnjoyRUclips thank you for the advice 🙏🏼 ☺️
I love travelling, I love seeing new cultures.
There was nothing about this that made me want to go there.
In general I prefer going outside cities.
But you've got to see the cities while you are there.
That did not look like a fun experience to me, walking those streets.
outside Dhaka is much better. like saint martin island for sea, sajek valley for mountains and for natural side-viewing the villages
What a trip we're having. Thank you, Gabriel.
This is the first travel vlog I’ve seen where the vlogger actually did basic historical research of the country he/she’s traveling. Well done.
I love that you talk to local Bangladeshis. Enjoy brother!
This is going to be a great series from Gabriel, Bangladesh looks amazing 👍👍 greetings from 🇬🇧
So cool to watch Gabe, I especially like it when people take an interest in you and exchange a conversation 😉
Welcome to South Asia bro..🤣
it's not so much that they "don't care", but rather that there are so many millions of people in one place, living in an incredibly impoverished city. there are simply not enough resources and infrastructure to handle it. the residents are certainly to blame, but the government is also not putting in enough effort to remedy the problems. there are over 22 million people living in dhaka and it's surrounding area. to manage such numbers of people takes immense effort. compare that to a city like tokyo where they have a similar population. the difference there, is that there is sufficient taxes and reinvestment in the city that keeps it in order. dhaka is still has a long way to go to improve, but they are trying. it would probably take a century or two to get dhaka to the state a cities ike tokyo, paris or NYC are - and the country as a whole. poverty and corruption is an extremely hard thing to fix
Chaos. I won't go there to Dhaka, but it is interesting to see a travel vlog from there, in order to comprehend how chaotic there it really is.
Too much chaos! I wouldn't be able to cope. Take care Gabriel, may the Lord watch over you!
Hello sir,
It's an awesome feeling to see you in Bangladesh. I'm from Bangladesh as well but currently living in Hungary. I'm a regular viewers of your channel since 2019. I saw hundreds of places on your eyes (by your channel). I wish I could meet you in Bangladesh. I hope one day the dream will come true and I will see you somewhere in Europe. If you have any plan to visit Hungary (Budapest), then please let me know. I would love to be with you. I don't know how much you like Bangladesh. But try to enjoy as much as you can 😉
Definitely alot happening Gabriel! 😎☀️stay safe! 😊❤
Truly amazing to see you arrive and drop right into that intensity! Dramatic.
Stay in Bangladesh for at least one month, Gabriel. Visit places outside Dhaka city specially in different villages of the country. Bangladesh is a different experience but it will grow on you for sure if you take it slow and explore various parts of country. Wishing you a wonderful time in Bangladesh!
His visa is for 12 days
He has spent long stretches of time there though in the past. Seems like he likes all the countries that used to make up colonial India.
I went there 25 years ago. Loved it.
Kolkata your next destination is very similar to Dhaka. especially North Kolkata can be as chaotic as old Dhaka. there are places in Kolkata where the Bangladeshi immigrants are the majority. south kolkata is less chaotic and more developed. East Kolkata is most developed and for posh people.
I'd be perfectly happy walking those street taking it all in but it's the technicalities that would give me severe anxiety. Thank you for taken me here Gabriel.
Thanks for this video..... marking Bangladesh OFF my list of countries I want to visit someday!
Wow what an experience, classic Gabriel Traveler
This is a nightmare! Suddenly living in Bulgaria seems like paradise.
I couldn't agree more.
Why nightmares?
Once this was one of the richest cities in the world. But then Brits came.
Living in Bulgaria? I don’t know how do u compare? I don’t have the problems in Bulgaria. If i want to earn more that 2k euro i go to UK and return to Bulgaria and live very well 🖐🏻 U can travel and work anywere but only in Bulgaria the great nature, cheap prices and very well food. And tax also very less
Yes, it is. But the 'paradises' on earth come in various shapes and forms. And much of that is quite incompatible to each other.
People in the chat are suggesting to visit the villages of Bangladesh, maybe it's worth the trip Gabriel
If a migraine was a place it would be here. Pure chaos.
100% appreciate it all but my mind can’t wrap my head around the intensity. Props Gabriel.
I so enjoyed your history lesson this morning!!! And I was happy you survived the streets of Dhaka while teaching!!! 😮
Wow. Feel overwhelmed watching this. The noise, the sea of humanity, the honking is intense. Very curious to see what it's like outside of Dhaka. You're not in Thailand anymore!
Very much Χάος(Chaos) in this city but on the other hand a very authentic and sympathetic city! Gabriel a real traveler!
Good job on imparting all that history and contextual info while navigating the streets, filming and interacting with the locals, quite a skill!
Such an intense human interaction in just a few minutes. So different experience from the snobby western world. Would love to visit this city one day and explore the country side of Bangladesh. Keep up the good work. Content from not well-known countries are always welcome.
Looks like a really interesting country. My wife was almost having an anxiety attack at the intensity of everything 😊
Amazing. Proper travelling. Reminds me of when I first went to Delhi in 1998. Looking forward to seeing more of Bangladesh. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for your dedication and showing the other side of the world. We've met some absolutely wonderful people from there and they are friendly and helpful.

The place looks like living somewhere around 20 years back at the beginning of the video. but nice weather though. Thanks for sharing. 😍😍😍
Very Interestin looking forward too these vlogs, my birthday today 17th, -3 degrees today here in Scotland. Enjoy 👍
I've been to India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Myanmar and have considered visiting Bangladesh but it becomes less likely as the years pass. It's as I expected it would be, Dhaka is a dirty mess but I'm sure there are some other areas that would be more pleasant and magical.
There are plenty of other areas. Sylhet, Chittagong, Coxs Bazar.
If you watched vlogs by sunkissed Bucket List. Outside Dhaka is not so bad surprisingly. Dhaka also has a new township. Looked like American cities similar to philippines' BGC.

Gabe be sure to travel to Sylhet, city in the north eastern part of Bangladesh. You'll enjoy getting away from the hustle & bustle of Dhaka

Yes I agree, I have been to 129 countries, 70 still to go, I have ruled out definitely 20 countries which leaves another 50! I haven't totally ruled out Bangladesh but let's say it will be in the last half of the list!

Thanks for the awesome adventure love this channel!!!!
Been to quite a lot of places throughout the world. It's nice to see different countries and cultures. But I don't think I would ever visit Bangladesh. You deserve a medal for staying there for 6 days.
This is travelin'
Makes me think of the George Harrison song "Bangladesh" from 1971 about the war and famine.
Good to know, I wasn't sure if I would be allowed to cross that border, but I guess it's possible. It must be a long line.
Bangladesh is really only recommended to experienced World travelers. Best for beginners to travel to India atleast 2-3 times before going to Bangladesh.
lol
It would be cool to take a non traveler out of middle American and land them right in the middle of Dhaka.
I think Gabriel qualifies as a world traveler. lol

Kolkata is the London of the East, with palm trees and chaos.
Wow, fascinating.
Gabe you gotta love T-Mobile!!!! Also I loved the geography lesson you taught the young guys in the middle of the street! Lol 😂😂 that was priceless!
Hello Gabriel, here watching and supporting you from Katy, Texas (near Houston). 😊
Please go outside of dhaka and exploring the village life of Bangladesh.
You will be fall in love with Bangladeshi village life.
You can also say 'KI OBOSTHA' or 'KEMON ACHEN' , Its a casual thing we use in daily basis, basically it means 'Whats Up' Or 'How ya doing'
When you say hello, and they ask you your name-ask them about the a area like where to go perhaps…? You could take a selfie with them and then show the pictures at the end in a slide show style.
Hello sir..Welcome to my country Bangladesh. Have a nice tour.
All the red-bearded men are interesting. I read that Bangladeshi men dye their beards with henna as a recent fashion trend b/c they feel it makes them look younger and because Muslim clerics have recently been teaching that Mohammed himself used to dye his beard the same way.
Great video Gabe!
Not sure it's whet my appetite 🙄 but great video 👍
Thanks for the info.

I took a rickshaw back and it was definitely slower.
What an amazing place to visit! The culture is of another world I do agree with many other commenters that I would never want to live there but what a place! The pollution is awful unfortunately that’s really too bad.
DHAKA CITY VERY BUSY TOWN IN BANGLADESH . TRAFFIC JAM BIG PROBLEM HERE .
@@kaes7041 yes, yes all very good. They also hack people to death in public. Americans prefer to use guns, same, same. Maybe better you stay in Bangladesh.
Incredible Video Gabriel! i will be staying in india for 6 months then going to explore Bangladesh for a few months as well, also Gabriel have you checked those fake onward ticket sites? i have used one that has helped me out a ton without booking expensive onward flights. i used it for a few countries that required an onward ticket and it worked and i only paid $5 for the fake onward ticket.
Yikes! The opening video looked like you were in a landfill. We take our sanitation/garbage service for granted.
The roads are free of trash. It looks so good. I hope to get there someday.
Bangladesh won it’s Independence through a bloody war. So, people are very sentimental about their language, history, culture and customs and identity. Hope you enjoy Dhaka, and other parts of Bangladesh. Wish you a safe enjoyable tour de force in Dhaka.
Looks like absolute hell on earth compared 16:04 to Thailand where you just came from.
Isn't Thailand worse?
you can have beef Curry in India. in Kerala that is the staple food. you are traveling to Kolkata next. if you visit Park Circus or Park Street area of Kolkata you will find lots of restaurants selling beef items including beef curry. I suggest you UP Bihar restaurant in Dharmatala for beef biryani and Shaikhs Beck Bagan, wah Janaab in Mirza Galib Street For beef items.
My god, I was getting dizzy watching the streets and whatever was happening there - and I thought India was bad.
