முதலில் இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி ஒரு தவறுக்கு உறுதுணையாக இருக்கிறது போல் தெரிகிறது. ஏனெனில் எப்பொழுதும் திரு.கோபிநாத் தனது பேச்சுத்திறமையால் நியாயத்தையும் உண்மைகளையும் எடுத்துச்சொல்வார். சிலநேரங்களில் கண்டிக்கவும் செய்வார். நடுநிலையை கடைப்பிடிப்பார். ஆனால் இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியில் நடுநிலையை கடைப்பிடிக்கவில்லை போல் தெரிகிறது.உதாரணம்1. ஒரு பெண்பிள்ளை கேக் எடுத்து முகத்தில் அடித்து விளையாடலாம் என்று சொல்கிறா. அதற்கு எதிர்தரப்பில் அப்படி செய்யக்கூடாது என தகுந்த காரணங்களை சொல்லி ஒர் ஆண்மகன் வாதாடுகிறார். திரும்பத்திரும்ப அந்த பெண்பிள்ளை வாதாட; திரு.கோபிநாத் பார்த்துக்கொண்டு இருந்தது அழகல்ல. 2.யார் இந்த சிறிதர்? இவரை போய் ஏன் திரு.கோபிநாத் தூக்கிப்பிடிக்கிறார் என்று விளங்கவில்லை. அதற்கு மேல் அவருக்கு பரிசு வேறே. சிறிதர் லண்டன் (யு.கே) பற்றி சொன்ன சில தகவல்கள் பிழையானவை. இவற்றை விரிவாக சொல்ல இங்கு முடியாது. சிறிதர் லண்டனில் படித்து விட்டு தமிழ்நாட்டுக்காரர்களை ஏமாற்றப் பார்க்கிறார். எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் மேலாக இவரை ஒரு காப்ரேட் கொம்பனி பிரதிநிதி என சந்தேகிக்க தோன்றுகிறது. மோகன் பேசியது ஒன்றும் பொருத்தமில்லை. திரு.ராசகோபாலன் ; திரு.முத்து இருவரினதும் வாதம் அருமை. மக்களுக்கு பயனுள்ளவை. திரு.ராசகோபாலன் சொன்ன குடிநீர் பற்றிய விடயம். இன்று குடிநீர் பிரச்சினை. நாளை உணவுப்பிரச்சினை.சிந்திக்கவேண்டும். இறுதியில் எப்பொழுதும் போல் மக்களிடம் தீர்ப்பை விட்டதால்தான் இந்த விமர்சனத்தை எழுதினேன். குறைகள் இருந்தால் மன்னிக்கவும்:நன்றி.

These morons don't even know how famines (which were actually man made famines) were created in India. This is what happens when one does not have wisdom. To attain wisdom, one needs to know true history (not the distorted history created by British looters and propagated by their Indian stooges like Amartya sen), philosophy, science, economy, religion and politics. British east India company (then owned by Rothschild or Jewish bankers) grew opium on farmlands across India for its export to China, between 1750 to 1947 which led to 20 large man made famines and deaths of 85 million Indians or 8 crore Indians in 200 yrs. Amartya sen white washed history in his book by saying his white masters were not responsible for famines across India. Last I checked Amartya sen's third wife is from Rothschild family or Jewish bankers.
I like the view of Rajagopal. Respect the women who make food for you, its more than food. No one understands the effort behind making them. One should think of the peoples and kids who are dying in india due to hunger before wasting the food.
I am very disappointed by this show. Sorry I am posting again because I feel very strongly about this subject. My disappointment is heightened by the fact that there was NO constructive message or even a discussion about how NOT to waste food and how the excess food that goes unconsumed and can get potentially wasted can be shared effectively among the people without the means.
I too agree with u, Sridhar is talking more based on facts and figures he read in books. None of them discuss about how not to waste. Sometime back many hotels in the world (few in Malaysia too) impose food fine on foods wasted by their customers especially during hi-tea or buffets. No doubt customers pay all they can eat for a certain cost but they have no rights to waste. This creates awareness among customers not to waste the food. In Weddings, how can they donate the balance food to charitable homes. My ex-neighbor sent the balance briyani from his daughter's wedding to an orphanage. Not only the bride and groom got blessings from relatives and friends but from the less fortunate from these orphanages too. In conclusion there is no constructive ideas in reducing the wastage

I was shocked when I heard Mr. Shridhar say almost with a smirk something on the lines that one has to hunt for orphanages at the middle of the night. So, in this country, with its rich history of egalitarianism and philosophies, sharing is smirked at!
Also, I am very distraught that the panel is not representative - participants are mostly upper middle class as far as I can judge. Perhaps, they should have brought in people who are not so well-off and heard their side of opinions. What about the attitude to food wastage in small towns and villages - that aspect was merely mentioned. I feel that the discussion would have been so much more fruitful had some of these aspects been included instead of the meaningless statistics pointed out and random references taken out of context by Mr. Sridhar.

First I thought the show will be good becoz the topic is good. Actually -I/ we all think The show was made to make the people to waste food. And Sridhar was brought to counter every good view by Mr. Rajagopalan and the person next to him. And Gopi acknowledges his every view, and asks Sridhar to counter Mr.Rajagopalan. It was so obvious.(But poor Gopi, he can only do what he was told to do by his superior- I know Gopi didn't do this show with his heart and not happy also, he is a good guy) Sridhar doesn't even have the courtesy to let the educated experienced Mr. Rajagopalan talk. Just countering every view. First of all cake is a poison to our body- and the cream on top of it too. (FYI, I have been attending tons of parties abroad for past 25+ years- where cake is available- but never touched a piece- During the Christmas gala party by office- in a 5 star hotel- we have a buffet of cream, maida based products some 200 yard stretch in tables- anything you can have- but we don't eat at all. Girls, CAKE-Cream-It will spoil your face, eyes, your dress etc. So if u want fun, play some games, dance, etc, if you want to apply something on face- apply turmeric paste, sandal wood paste, (It will beautify you, disinfect the room etc). Why do u think that is out of fashion. Then why does other countries want the copyright for turmeric, neem leaves etc. Next time- make a garland, strings out of neem leaves, turmeric leaves, mango leaves etc. it will beautify the location and a good disinfectant. During wedding you can reduce the food and give a big amount to a charity, you can ask the representative from Charity and donate a cheque, or before marriage -the family can go to the orphanage and offer food to them- and take a video and show it during marriage- if you want publicity. or just donate food. God has the account for all what we are doing. Don't have to show off as well. And costly food is that does good to our body. Not the cake, noodles, pizza, biscuit maida based products are not expensive food-they are cheap food-which won't spoil at all(long shelf life) but it will spoil our health. And same way Tea also. And no one in US or other western or any countries visited so far waste food for status/knowingly, except Indians. Learn good value from westerners, not the imposed value. Just take in Office- westerners take only needed amount of coffee/sugar/creamer. But Indians(youngsters) working abroad- pour half cup of sugar in a cup then immediately throw the remaining sugar into trash, then pour lot of coffee into cup and pour in sink etc.
This whole debate proved waste of time for the viewers as there was no final say. Either the show should have said avoid wastage or wastage is not at alarming level or atleast a message to public with statistics. Instead it just mentioned the points that are already available. 1. This Sridar was called to this show, only to give him a gift or did he demand for the special gift to be awarded to him if he comes to the show. Being an Oxford grad doesnt mean he deserve the prize. 2. Mixing food waste with politics is diverting the basic aspect of the show. Other prize recipient was mixing corporate politics with food wastage which was not in the scope of the debate. 3. The main point that need to be stressed was increase in price because of wood wastage. How price rise has an impact of food wastage. 4. It is absurd to say that food wastage is making a win-win situation as both producers, everyone is benefiting because of sale.
The people supporting the food waste are so damn foolish. They are neither knowledgeable, nor do they know food economy and the ecological effects of food waste. Its a sad show! Especially the Oxford loser knows nothing.. Food wastage is happening in our country on a large scale (foods wasted in Govt. reservoirs in the name of food security) but not everyone can afford to buy food. Instead of throwing out ur party waste, distribute it to poor. Use local foods of India, avoid the sodas, pizzas, burgers, chips marketed by corporates

The topic is GREAT,but the moderator did not know how to keep the topic focused. But those on the "OK TO waste food" did not consider 1) Food is not an entertainment and cannot be compared to watching a movie. Its fundamental to human life 2) In countries like India, why don't you step out of a fancy restaurant and see a woman with a young baby come and beg you for food - restaurants MUST start providing a container to take home the food you can't finish eating or provide "small, medium, large portions for ala-carte".

All waste is bad. Not just food. Beyond all economics and politics, wastage is a bad thing that needs to be minimised at all levels - individual to family to community to country. No waste is unavoidable. Of course it takes planning and vigilence. There still can be some wastage despite close control, but that is no justification for not excsing any control. Not being wasteful is an attitide, and is important in retention of wealth. Old money knows conserving wealth is more difficult than creating it, so they practice austerity and waste-avoidance, one of the pillars of their class. "what is wrong with wasting food ?'" is typical attitude of the pakki new money ! Wasting food is dharidharam - a family that treats its food so callously is surely a wasteful family in general and will go down at some point ! Wasting my food is not about feeding the poor. it is all about wasting my money, period. Just as charity begins at home, waste avoidance begins with food !

Oxford guy has lost the point. The per person told wastage is averaged over 1.2 billion population in India vs 30 million in USA. This is under the assumption that both get the same quantum's of supply. As the opponent right my pointed out the supply is less in India and many don't get food and as the oxford guy added it is far lesser in African countries. That does not justify the wastage by the affordable ones. I am surprised an oxford economist can be so myopic in his views. #facepalm

I am really sorry. The views of all people who support wasting food/dont care about wasting food is pathetic. I just saw the height of indifference and apathy and cruelty in these people - inhuman! I am very disappointed that Neeya Naana did not take a strong stance on objecting to this apathy towards wasting food. I am very disappointed by this show. Sorry I am posting again because I feel very strongly about this subject. My disappointment is heightened by the fact that there was NO constructive message or even a discussion about how NOT to waste food and how the excess food that goes unconsumed and can get potentially wasted can be shared effectively among the people without the means.
I too agree with u, Sridhar is talking more based on facts and figures he read in books. None of them discuss about how not to waste. Sometime back many hotels in the world (few in Malaysia too) impose food fine on foods wasted by their customers especially during hi-tea or buffets. No doubt customers pay all they can eat for a certain cost but they have no rights to waste. This creates awareness among customers not to waste the food.
In Weddings, how can they donate the balance food to charitable homes. My ex-neighbor sent the balance briyani from his daughter's wedding to an orphanage. Not only the bride and groom got blessings from relatives and friends but from the less fortunate from these orphanages too.

I was shocked when I heard Mr. Shridhar say almost with a smirk something on the lines that one has to hunt for orphanages at the middle of the night. So, in this country, with its rich history of egalitarianism and philosophies, sharing is smirked at!
Also, I am very distraught that the panel is not representative - participants are mostly upper middle class as far as I can judge. Perhaps, they should have brought in people who are not so well-off and heard their side of opinions. What about the attitude to food wastage in small towns and villages - that aspect was merely mentioned. I feel that the discussion would have been so much more fruitful had some of these aspects been included instead of the meaningless statistics pointed out and random references taken out of context by Mr. Sridhar.

First I thought the show will be good becoz the topic is good. Actually -I/ we all think The show was made to make the people to waste food. And Sridhar was brought to counter every good view by Mr. Rajagopalan and the person next to him. And Gopi acknowledges his every view, and asks Sridhar to counter Mr.Rajagopalan. It was so obvious.(But poor Gopi, he can only do what he was told to do by his superior- I know Gopi didn't do this show with his heart and not happy also, he is a good guy)
Sridhar doesn't even have the courtesy to let the educated experienced Mr. Rajagopalan talk. Just countering every view. First of all cake is a poison to our body- and the cream on top of it too. (FYI, I have been attending tons of parties abroad for past 25+ years- where cake is available- but never touched a piece- During the Christmas gala party by office- in a 5 star hotel- we have a buffet of cream, maida based products some 200 yard stretch in tables- anything you can have- but we don't eat at all.
Girls, CAKE-Cream-It will spoil your face, eyes, your dress etc. So if u want fun, play some games, dance, etc, if you want to apply something on face- apply turmeric paste, sandal wood paste, (It will beautify you, disinfect the room etc). Why do u think that is out of fashion. Then why does other countries want the copyright for turmeric, neem leaves etc. Next time- make a garland, strings out of neem leaves, turmeric leaves, mango leaves etc. it will beautify the location and a good disinfectant. During wedding you can reduce the food and give a big amount to a charity, you can ask the representative from Charity and donate a cheque, or before marriage -the family can go to the orphanage and offer food to them- and take a video and show it during marriage- if you want publicity. or just donate food. God has the account for all what we are doing. Don't have to show off as well. And costly food is that does good to our body. Not the cake, noodles, pizza, biscuit maida based products are not expensive food-they are cheap food-which won't spoil at all(long shelf life) but it will spoil our health. And same way Tea also.
And no one in US or other western or any countries visited so far waste food for status/knowingly, except Indians. Learn good value from westerners, not the imposed value. Just take in Office- westerners take only needed amount of coffee/sugar/creamer. But Indians(youngsters) working abroad- pour half cup of sugar in a cup then immediately throw the remaining sugar into trash, then pour lot of coffee into cup and pour in sink etc.
It was a good show, Sridhar is through management quota I think. He does not have any stuff.
This whole debate proved waste of time for the viewers as there was no final say. Either the show should have said avoid wastage or wastage is not at alarming level or atleast a message to public with statistics. Instead it just mentioned the points that are already available.
1. This Sridar was called to this show, only to give him a gift or did he demand for the special gift to be awarded to him if he comes to the show. Being an Oxford grad doesnt mean he deserve the prize.
2. Mixing food waste with politics is diverting the basic aspect of the show. Other prize recipient was mixing corporate politics with food wastage which was not in the scope of the debate.
3. The main point that need to be stressed was increase in price because of wood wastage. How price rise has an impact of food wastage.
4. It is absurd to say that food wastage is making a win-win situation as both producers, everyone is benefiting because of sale.

But those on the "OK TO waste food" did not consider 1) Food is not an entertainment and cannot be compared to watching a movie. All waste is bad. Not just food. Beyond all economics and politics, wastage is a bad thing that needs to be minimised at all levels - individual to family to community to country. No waste is unavoidable. Of course it takes planning and vigilence. There still can be some wastage despite close control, but that is no justification for not excsing any control. Not being wasteful is an attitide, and is important in retention of wealth. Old money knows conserving wealth is more difficult than creating it, so they practice austerity and waste-avoidance, one of the pillars of their class. "what is wrong with wasting food ?'" is typical attitude of the pakki new money ! Wasting food is dharidharam - a family that treats its food so callously is surely a wasteful family in general and will go down at some point ! Wasting my food is not about feeding the poor. it is all about wasting my money, period. Just as charity begins at home, waste avoidance begins with food !

Mr.Rajagopal had lot of good points and put out his thoughts clearly, well done sir. Mohan as usual blabbering and wasting time, always talking about tribalism at irrelevant context. Oxford guy has lost the point. The per person told wastage is averaged over 1.2 billion population in India vs 30 million in USA. This is under the assumption that both get the same quantum's of supply. As the opponent right my pointed out the supply is less in India and many don't get food and as the oxford guy added it is far lesser in African countries. நாம் எந்த உணவையோ அல்லது பொருளையோ பயன்படுத்தும் போது அதன் மெய்பொருளை இயன்றவரை அறிந்து பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும்.நாம் பயன்படுத்தும் ஒவ்வொன்றும் ஒரு மூலப்பொருளை அழித்து இன்னொன்றாக பயன்படுத்துகிறோம் என்பதை அறிய வேண்டும்.நாம் பயன்படுத்தும் ஒவ்வொரு உணவும் ஒன்றின் மூலப்போருளிலிருந்து பெறப்படுகிறது.தண்ணியையும் உரத்தையும் ஒருவனுடைய உழைப்பையும் பயன்படுத்திதான் நமக்கு சாப்பாடு கிடைக்கிறது.ஆதலால் நாம் வீணாக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு பொருளையும் கட்டுபடுத்துவதன் மூலம் பிற்கால சந்ததிகள் வாழ வழிவகுக்கிகிறோம் என்பதை உணர வேண்டும்.
எடுத்துக்காட்டாக கடையில் போய் தக்காளி வாங்கிகிறோம் என்று வைத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள் நமக்கு தேவையான அளவு வாங்கி பயன்படுத்தினால் நல்லது.ஆனால் காசு இருக்குன்னு நிறைய வாங்கி பயன்படுத்தாமல் இருந்து அதை கீழே கொட்டினால் அது வீணாகும்.அதை தகுந்த அளவு வாங்கினால் மீதமுள்ளவற்றை அது கெடும் நிலையில் உள்ளபோது அதை குறைந்த விலையில் பொருளாதாரத்தில் பின்தங்கி உள்ளவர்கள் குறைந்த விலைக்கு வாங்குவார்கள் அல்லது அந்த வியாபாரி அடுத்த தடைவை வாங்கும்போது குறைத்துகொள்வான்.இதனால் தக்காளியை உற்பத்தி செய்வோர்களும் அதனுடைய அளவை குறைத்து கொள்வார்கள்.இதனால் மூலப்பொருளை பயன்படுத்தும் வீதமும் குறையும்.இந்த இடத்தில் வியாபாரியோ அல்லது விவசாயியோ பெறும் பணத்தை மட்டும் பார்க்க கூடாது.
நாம் பணத்திற்கும் அர்த்தமற்ற உணர்வுகளுக்கும் மதிப்பு கொடுத்து நாம் இந்த உலகத்தை அழித்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றோம் என்பதை உணர வேண்டும்.

இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியில் மோகன் அய்யா ஒரு குழந்தை ஒரு மிட்டாயை வீணாக்குவதை பற்றி பேசினார்.அந்த குழந்தைக்கு அதை வீணாக்குவது பற்றி புரியாதுதான்.அந்த குழந்தை சீக்கிரமாக புரிந்துகொள்வதற்கு நாம் முயற்சி எடுக்க வேண்டும்.இல்லையென்றால் இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியில் பங்கெடுத்த கேக்கை வீணாக்கும் பெரிய குழந்தைபோல் வீணாகுவதை பற்றி யோசிக்காமல் போய்விடும்.

I watched 'Wonders of the monsoon' aired around same time on BBC, I wish you could see it too.I hope that the participants and programme makers understand the meaningful need of consumerism. Food is not a commodity & shouldn't be compared with anything. Because if a person can have excess number of shoes, dress, or any other luxury items. If a person doesn't get any of these commodity he will not die but many are dying because of lack of food. Many said if I save this food it will not reach the needy. Of course it will not reach the needy but our intention of saving food itself will motivate others to save food

Mr.Sridhar is totally wrong. Once upon a time bread and rusk is referred for fever. Now it became a mandatory food here and cost wise also very high. I am living with my family in Canada. here the cost of living including food also very expensive.

It is an eye opener show to realize ourselves where we are in terms of wasting the food & food products. The so called availability and affordability reasons are not at all acceptable to justify the food wastage even though you are a producer. After all those who talked so are only consumers and do not know the real pain in producing food are not supposed to talk in such irresponsible manner.
