Hi Rich , Having the right amp is where the magic is . I have been playing guitar for 14 years and have gone through the same thoughts process . I would bite the bullet and spend a bit and get a Fender Blues Junior . Simple to use and always a good sound. Have fun

Great vid, Rich, and great question too. I'm the wrong guy to ask this question about.... because I'm less concerned about the clean tones. Because I like them. I use them. But that's where it stops for me. Just as long as I can plug in a stomp box when I want to. But I don't do that often. And that's because I like modeling amps (such as the LT25 you talked about). And I like them with killer drive and gain. But what I call "clean gain." Not all fuzzy. And that is why I am in stone cold love with my Fender GTX50. The thing is just flat-out awesome. It can do whatever you want it to do. BUT.... still not probably the best to go pure clean... and plug in effects boxes. However... I have stumbled onto the Fender Champion 50XL. Now... with that one, you have a separate clean channel. So that would get it done for you on the stomp boxes. And personally, I love the gain channel too. Not nearly as much as the GTX50. But I still dig it. It's real "throaty" and got a real interesting classic rock tone. Lots of settings and selections..... and to your earlier point.... you can dial it right up easily - right on the face of the amp. No phone. No tablet. Not even any selector electronics menus on the amp. Just 2 or 3 dials. Dial up what you want... and bingo. And then back to the clean channel.... for just straight up clean. For your boxes, or for pure clean. And also... one of the things I like best about it.... it's got a 12" Celestion Midnight speaker that sounds killer in my opinion. A big, full-sounding speaker - at lower, or higher volumes, either way. I got one a few months ago for $150 - brand new!! I stole it. But you can find them for a couple hundred on sale. I would really recommend that amp. The Fender Champion 50XL. Check out some RUclips vids on it.

The Boss Katana as others have said is always a good shout, the 50w model is great and there's lots more options when it comes to the Tone Studio to access more effects. Line 6 Catalyst is okay as well but it definitely divides opinion. Orange Crush 20 is a great bit of kit and well worth a look in.

Give the Marshall MG10CD a look. You can find these on ebay for about 40 quid or so, but you might get lucky and find one for less (I paid 20 quid for mine, which was a real bargain, and if you can find one for that price, it'd be a no brainer to give it a try of course), but even new you would only pay about 60-odd quid for one of these things from somewhere such as Bax Music (that's a really great online music store incidentally).
Although specs-wise the MG10 is a mere ten watt amp, which would tend to make you suppose it wouldn't be any use for gigs, you can actually get it up to the kind of volume levels where you'd be able to use it for a small pub gig/open mike night and still just about cut through some drums, which for something so small and portable not to mention very robustly-built, this is remarkable. But since it has twin volume controls and a gain control too, in a bedroom setting, you can actually take it down to the kind of volume which won't have your neighbours banging on the wall without it dropping off and sounding weedy, and in any case it has a headphone out which gets a surprisingly good sound, as well as having a line out jack, so it's fairly decent for doing home-studio stuff if you don't want to use a DI box or a mixer.
The controls on the MG are relatively minimal, but they offer a wide range of sound options, from clean to overdriven and despite only having a six-inch speaker, you could be fooled into thinking it has something bigger in there. Of course it also has quite a bit of 'street cred' for having that Marshall logo on it if that kind of thing bothers you, and its small size means it is good if space is limited. If you do prefer to use headphones for those late-night jams and want to keep your neighbours happy, I would recommend using a pair of monitor/DJ headphones (Sony ones are inexpensive and decent), since the flat monitor response of monitor headphones means they will give you a true representation of the sound you amp is throwing out.
You should bear in mind that, as with any amp, you'll get more out of one by throwing some pedals into the mix, where if you add things such as an EQ and a compressor, you'll gain a lot more in the way of available tones and control and expand the sounds you can go for, in addition to being able to get rid of any electrical hum you may encounter. If you are not gigging, you don't have to go to the trouble of having a pedal board, but in fairness, I don't know any guitarist who doesn't like having one of these, even in a bedroom setting, because it keeps things tidy in terms of cables and allows you to put everything away and not upset you partner for having a house which looks like the Stones are setting up for a gig. So if you are looking at throwing some pedals into the mix, I can recommend the Harley-Benton (I know you are a fan of the brand) Spaceship 40 (www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_spaceship_40_w_hardcase.htm). You can get ten pedals on that thing and the flight case it comes in is very swanky and useful if you do want to take things to a gig, but even if you don't, it's great for keeping things tidy. For powering it, I'd recommend this thing, which for 30-odd quid is an amazingly good power bank which will handle ten pedals: (www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371274945390).
When it comes to pedals themselves, if you don't want to break the bank, then you should definitely take a look at Behringer and Donner stuff, which offer an amazing amount of bang for your bucks. Behringer pedals come in for a bit of stick sometimes for having ABS plastic housings rather than the more typical metal casings of most pedals, but in practice I've never had any problems with them in this respect, and if you are not some lead-footed clumsy oaf, you won't break them even if you gig with them. Donner pedals, particularly things such as their Water Echo and Tap Delay will really get you some nice sounds for not a lot of cash, from short slap echoes, to all those U2 Edge and Dave Gilmour Floyd sounds typical of a WEM Copycat tape delay, but without all the hassle and expense. I'd really recommend getting hold of one of those Donner Delay pedals.
Consider pedals such as a delays, reverbs, distortions etc to offer more in the way of sounds, but as noted, don't forget that an EQ and a compressor in that pedal line up will make these fancier effects pedals far more usable. You might also want to consider throwing a looper pedal in there so you can layer sounds and get more creative in your bedroom gigging adventures. The amp is important of course, so you are right to be looking for something to get the kind of sounds you want as a starting point, but once you have that stepping off point sorted, it's the pedals you go through which will let you get something unique to you in terms of your own sound. While you are at it, you may also want to consider adding a pedal which can give you some drums, which will also add some beef to your tunes.
As someone else pointed out, you might also want to consider swapping out the pickups on your guitar for something other than the ones they come with, which is usually never a bad thing on less expensive guitars such as Harley Bentons, Fazleys, Donners etc, although to be fair, the ones they come with are not actually terrible these days. I did this on my own Harley Benton TE52 Telecaster (great guitar, but it does weigh a ton), changing the bridge pick up for a Warman Humbucker, which did require a bit of routing surgery on the body and the scratchplate, but it's now a far more versatile guitar, and it's built like a tank too. I kept the stock bridge pickup, because it's actually fairly decent. Likewise, I swapped out the P90 on my Fazley FDC 418 (another very good guitar for the price, even without the pickup swap), for a Warman Dogs of War P90, and this transformed it into a real firestarter of a guitar, ideal for a bit of punk/glam rock Johnny Thunders-style playing, which is amazing for a guitar that you can find for about a ton (definitely take a look at some of those Fazley guitars, you'll be pleasantly surprised how good they are, especially their Midas knock off copy of a LP Gold Top, which is only 130 quid!). So if you are tempted to start swapping pickups around, I strongly recommend giving Warman a look, because these are remarkably inexpensive pickups and I've never been disappointed with any of their stuff.
With most cheaper guitars, such as Fazleys, Harley Bentons etc, I tend to change the tuners for better ones such as Klusons or some such, which is another strongly improvement for budget guitars along with sometimes sticking a better bridge and nut on them. Anyway, keep up the good work. Your youtube channel is always interesting to view.

Ive been on this journey. Can't knock the Katana but you can spend more time fidling than playing. For value and ease of use I'd recommend the Blackstar ID Core v3 or one of the TVPs. Be warned, out of the box they sound pretty horrible but download some of the patches from the app that have been made by the blackstar sales rep and you'll be in as much tone heaven as you can be for under £120. Or... get a second hand Marshall origin 20, pair it with a 12" celestial v type or creamback and forget about amps for as long as you're a bedroom player(IMO). Also if you room is a bit short on soft furnishings as modern homes can be try pointing your amp towards a sofa or some curtains. This might help the "mush" you are hearing, it's surprising what positioning can do for tone. Enjoy the search Rich.
