    I have them since last saturday and have colored ab it with them and I LOVE them!! I've put them in a pencilcase and sorted them out on color, because they aren't in order in the box. But they are marvelous, slide over the paper very smoothly, similar to Prismacolor, but less grainy. I am really amazed by these for the price. Even though I had to pay some import fees, the extra money is well worth the quality. The other thing I'm really pleased with is more light colored purple shades, you don't see that much in other brands.Now if they only would sell them seperate.........

    • @coloringqueen
      @coloringqueen  6 лет назад

      If only they had open stock :( For people though in the US they could buy the smaller pack options if the pencil they wanted was in there but for us overseas, it would probably work out cheaper to buy a whole box again. They really are very impressive for the price! Glad you are enjoying yours! Happy coloring x

    Amazon Au now carries these pencils but the cheap cardboard one with a name I couldn’t see shows up. What I got was the plastic Guanghui box. To find them for Australians search 160 pencils and they’ll come up, no postage.

    I agree with you 100% regarding the Marco Renoir.The MR pencils are a waste of money,they break so much when Sharpening . The quality control is a disgrace, to be frank.Any set of colour pencil set is preferable to the Marco Renoir.Kind regards from the UK.

    I have these pencils. I find that they do okay, but I also hold both types of pencils in the same manner. In the video, you're holding the Polychromos pencils close to the tip. You hold the Guang Hui pencils halfway down the barrel. I would suggest holding them the same way to get a true comparison.
    Some things to remember : the Polychromos set is only 120 BUT open stock allows one to replace a pencil when necessary. I find that I don't have to sharpen these too often either.
    Guang Hui comes with metallic pencils BUT they do not sell open stock. This is a difficult problem. These also tend to have to be sharpened a lot. The pencils are scratchy, but if you can live with this-they can be a cheaper alternative.
    The fact that the Polychromos are quite a bit more expensive is a consideration. However, being able to use a good quality oil pencil that can be individually replaced by open stock sales at Dick Blick s for a reasonable price weighs in more favorably than the cheaper 160 pencil set. I'll continue using both, along with my Prismacolor pencils to create beautiful pages in my adultcoloring books.

    • @mchobbit2951
      @mchobbit2951 4 года назад

      Only 120? I think that 120 is plenty and once you go beyond that, you often end up with extremely similar shades. Completely agree on buying singles though. I started with the 12 set of Polys (because they ARE pricey) and am now adding singles. Haven't had to replace one so far. As you said, Polys don't need to be sharpened that often and when you do sharpen them, they sharpen well, unlike other pencils that constantly break. I hate sharpening (I use a hand sharpener because every electric or hand sharpener takes up a ton of room and/or makes ugly marks on your pencils) so that's really what makes me not want to get these.

    Great review! I feel guilty that I asked my husband for the Polychromos for my birthday, now I think I want these. I’m so confused. I would love to know how the watercolor pencils activated. I have a 36 set of Koh-hi-noor Mondeluz, that I love, but who wouldn’t want all those colors?

      I have to upload that video but tbh they are just as good value as these ones. For the price, if you live in the US both products are very good value. If you are international like me then the shipping and exchange rate takes its toll but still I couldn't buy that quality or amount here for that price. I wouldn't feel bad about the polys ..these are supplemental colors :) Happy coloring x

      If y ou are enrolled in art school generally your teachers will have products they recommend. If not, you might like to visit your local art shop and test some open stock to see what you are comfortable coloring with and what suits your budget and the skills you would like to develop. If you are not going to art school you might like to watch some colorists you admire on you tube that you want to follow their style eg, manga artists tend to use a lot of alcohol based markers, whereas colorists on coloring pages like Chris Cheng use pencils, often prismacolor. I’ve bought two sets of prismas to give to my patients whom I click with. (I can’t say “favorites”. Lol) And I want to get a few more sets as treats for patients going through a rough time, and at least a couple of sets for the floor-for all patients to use, but I can’t afford prismacolor sets for everyone. I appreciate any help and opinions you can offer.🙂

    These pencils aren't oilbased, they are water soluble! You should try it and you'll see!
    At least mine are and I'm NOT talking about the watercolor pencils from Guang Hui in the 150set, I'm talking about the 160 set of the colored pencils that are described as oilbased and waterresistant!
    They lay down the colour really nice and for the price absolute great (30€ for the set of 160 here in germany)!
    But they aren't what they claim to be and therefore useless for me

      Thank you for your answer!
      It seems a bit strange, in the meantime, I have noticed that some people have water soluble ones and some not. But it is nearly 50:50, I don't know if there are different manufacturer for this pencils or if there are many fakes on the market and wich one the originals are. Also there is a set of watercolor pencils, that's very irritating too in this case

    • @Sharon-pb7so
      @Sharon-pb7so 6 лет назад

      Jeanne d'Arc Mine are water soluble also. These are truly lousy pencils. They break over and over when sharpening. I just sent mine back to Amazon and I have never sent anything back until these. They look pretty but they're really awful.

    This set reminds me of a set that I bought called "Feela", 152 piece set, oil based and a beautiful pencil to use. I have been wanting to get a couple more of the "budget friendly" 120 piece sets or higher. I think that many of these sets are coming out of the same factories in China. This doesn't bother me in the least. I love the Feela set. They aren't super soft like Prisma's, but they are perhaps closer to Polychromos. I think that Prisma's are too soft and smeary. I LOVE the way that oil based pencils lay down.
    You have gotten me even more excited about adding the Guanghui pencil sets to my colored pencil stash.
    Thank you. This review answered many questions that I had.

      Thanks Mindy! I suspect that Feela is another PLR name for these pencils but when I checked online I couldn't be 100% certain so I didn't state that in my review. The pencils I use most often are not my fancy ones but the budget ones like Colleens and I'll be using these a lot as well even though I have all the fancy ones. It's wonderful that there are so many choices for colorists for all different budget levels. Happy coloring x

      I think that I agree wholeheartedly that these types of pencils are really good quality. Especially when you consider that nearly anyone can afford. I have a Dollar Tree set that is the hardest lead I've ever worked with. My point is that this giant set is actually cheaper than that one, and the pencils are FAR better.
      Thank you for replying. I really appreciate that you took the time to do that.
      Yeah. I'll be adding that set as well as an additional set of the Feela pencils. I LOVE the colors. Who knows, I may LOVE all of the sets of this type.

    Very nice review! (you can totally tell what's coming) I like how many colors it has ( trying to show I'm being fair about it ) and the packaging is really lovely ( but we both know I'm not ). And the side by side comparison with the Polys was really Great ( buttering you up before I say it) and the Hero's did remarkably well ( here it comes ) but I think I'll stick with my Polys. I like open stock and I love how the Polys have names on them and how substantial they feel in my hand but most of all I'm a Pencil Elitist. 😐 I can't deny it anymore. I should like these pencils. But because of those reasons I just listed not how they color .... it's a Nope! I'm more lenient with wax pencils because their not going up against my Polys. But the review was great! And I'm glad there is a really great set of oil based pencils out there for those that Polys are a No-Go because tradestock paper colors best with oil based pencils I think. Thanks for the Great Review!

    Thank you for a wonderful review. I live in Georgia, in the states, and your accent is mesmerizing. I have Aussie friends here who always say they love to hear me speak, but I believe the Australian accent is the loveliest on the planet. It's so soft and refined. Have you used a sharpener that compares with the Bruynzeel? I can't find it anywhere here in the states and none of my local supply shops will order it for me. It's my DREAM to live in Australia one day. Thanks again.

      Hi Chelle thank you x It's funny I think you either love or hate the Aussie accent. Another sharpener I like that is the same sort of price is the M&R (you can get it from Amazon). There are a lot of other good sharpeners like the Carl but they are super expensive! Happy coloring x

    The pens make a good impression. Too bad that I do not get them here in Germany, at least I can not find them. Nevertheless, thanks for the presentation of these pens. :)

      Well luckily in Germany you have Faber Castell and I presume they are a bit cheaper there than here. I couldn't get these in Australia either and had to buy them from Wish but you can also get them from Ebay. Happy coloring x

      Of course you can buy them here in germany.
      Na klar bekommst du die auch hier in Deutschland. Auf Amazon gibt es mindestens 3 verschiedene Anbieter dafür, vermutlich deutlich mehr. Ich habe für das 160er Set knapp 30€ bezahlt wenn ich mich recht erinnere.
      *Edit
      Ja, 30€. Hier der Link

    Just wait until you have to sharpen a pencil. You'll be tearing your hair out. The leads were broken the ENTIRE length of the pencil. Save your money and buy some decent pencils. I sent mine back to Amazon.
    Edited to add... They say they're oil based and that's why I wanted them. They are NOT oil. They smear with water.

      They do so they are oil based and I was really surprised when mine dissolved with water. I wrote to them and asked for an explanation and was told that I hadn't purchased the genuine "Hero" brand ...not sure :) . I haven't had any trouble with sharpening mine though. Hope . you have found something that like to use. Happy coloring x
