I cant get enough of hearing this song by The Smiths. Completely love it and also like Morrissey's charismatic showmanship singing Ask. Great Performance.
When Mike went to audition for the Smiths, he was high as hell on magic mushrooms. He said that Morrissey tripped the shit out of him -- the way he'd slink around the room in this long black overcoat, crooning mysteriously into the mic. LOL.

@Nicole no dell'italia lo so (vedi mia risposta ad altra utente più altrove) ma sull'estero ho qualche dubbio..so ad esempio di un'esibizione dei Queen, a Sanremo penso, in cui Freddie Mercury si "ribellò" facendo un gesto che sconfessava praticamente il playback stesso..e poi diciamolo, all'estero sono sempre stati piu "diretti"
I agree. "Ask" is surely not representative of The Smiths, except for the lyrics. But in 1987 there was also "Strangeways here we come" with a great song like "A rush and a push and the land is ours"...
Well the 'videoclips' are, but just search for example 'Rockpalast', 'Nottingham 21 Oct 86' or 'Madrid' in combination with 'Smiths' and you'll be amazed.
Terrible intro by the host. This song is so sweet, how could I forget about it, it's simple and kind like a blondie tune almost, and this instrumentation is nuts super unique
There's wee Johnny doin' his well honed "Keef" impressions..Ha ha! Good man. The only thing missing is the leg out & the slow kick, just like the "real" Keith Richards..C'mon & dig it!
Love how the song starts before Mike Joyce even takes the drums. And what about Kirsty MacColl singing back up? I don't see her. I hate these lip synching shows. They don't fool anyone.
@walkingphoenixx that's how that shit of festival worked in the 80's, i'd like to think that i heard this song from my tv screen when i was 1 year old, also with that ugly lipsync.
why, oh why did they have to do such meaningless puppet shows? I guess by this time they were starting to lose the plot (Ask is just a mediocre song compared to their best).
Nah, these people of this Italian show are just ridiciously bad informed (the band can get erven play live, they're miming to the studio version), and I'm sure Marr and the others were able to laugh at all this. The Smiths were big in England, that wasn't the reason. 'Musical differences' were.
I cant get enough of hearing this song by The Smiths. Completely love it and also like Morrissey's charismatic showmanship singing Ask. Great Performance.
Yeh, notice they are introduced as "Morrissey and the Smiths". I wonder if that intro helped Johnny decide to leave the band.
are you alive ?
2024
greatest band of the 80s, better than the pop metal crap. one of the best musical artists ever
I love this too much! Moz moves are just perfect, and when he shows a bit of his stomach, tease!!!
I love this video, Morrissey is dancing so much fun. His dances are always strange, but this one is the funniest

Are you serious? The Smiths are one of the greatest live bands ever.
But of course this one isn't live. The is simply the studio-sound.
"Ask me" by "Morrissey and The Smiths" ?! *mwuahaha* ohh gotta love San Remo...
Quanto sarebbe stata bella farla live...
Vabbè l’Italia 😂
la voce di Morrissey e' live, il resto no.
che bei tempi
haha they put the harmonica part in there but know body is playing one. Nice!
This whole this is the studio version

oh my, i usually dont get hot over comments but you have made one valid point like omg
I hate festival of Sanremo even if I am Italian.
The smiths are the best band I'ever listened!♥
Ci sono andati anche Depeche mode, Bowie e tanti altri purtroppo in quel posto di lecchini e venduti
che vergogna, gli smiths in playback 🤦♂️
@@mywordsmyhandle Purtroppo all'epoca era obbligatorio. Non erano i cantanti a decidere, bensì il festival stesso imponeva tutto ciò.
@@ItalianWanderluster no no ma infatti mi riferivo a sanremo! non immagino che oltraggio per i cantanti cantare a vuoto

Love how the leave the stage just after the very last note."That's all folks"
Morrissey is the coolest person ever
It's been 10 years since you wrote this comment. Now let's see if you can redeem yourself. Is Morrissey still the coolest person ever in your opinion?
@@MonkyMonk729 shut up!
@@hyosuke-karma-8778 I will not

0.23 the playback starts way before Mike Joyce has even made it to the Drumkit!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Sanremo is horrible ( I'm italian), but wow Smiths on it, I would have liked to watch this performance.
Morrissey sei un grande..
i wanted to write a comment on the exact same matter lol but then i read yours. totally agree
00:19 It was here that Johnny Marr said, " Fuck this, I'm out!"
I agree. "Ask" is surely not representative of The Smiths, except for the lyrics. But in 1987 there was also "Strangeways here we come" with a great song like "A rush and a push and the land is ours"...
Love this song A rush,a push and the land is ours.Only true Smiths fans feel the same.
omg too hot
simplemente morrissey!!!
@ghicaccatta grande Massarini alias Mister Fantasy!! :)
e poi ditemi che non erano belli i nostri anni ottanta....

Where are the amps and cables?
Was the last public "performance" of The Smiths?

I love the lip-syncing. Brilliant!
covering up your sexuality is quite the awesome thing to do.
Oh, I wasnt sure, it just seemed like all the live video's Ive seen are synched.
The music played before mike sit on the drum 😢😂
Great post. I bought this in Manchester as a bootleg in 1990, and it was shit quality.
Shiness is nice
temazo
The cheering and clapping were lip-synched (and hand-synched) as well.
Oh my god! Did the Smiths ever really play live, every vid Ive seen it synched. That takes away quite a couple points in my book.
If I'd been paid what I presume they were I'd fly to the end of the world if necessary, boy.
is that vanilla ice??

Because The Smiths are not available..that simple!

the smiths were holding moressey back fool!
is it playback or just an impression ?
not an impression. there's no wire
You’re right
No, it is
this is playback. right?
Yeah
playback
Looking back at then, I am so ashamed of this crappy playback Italy was reknown for
How could they stomach such lyp-synching? how fake!
lip synched???.. so lame
disgusting. so disappointed by this find.
I can't stand lip syncing
