So happy to see you got around to this video. This is such a hoot seeing the boys up there surrounded by so much glitz and glamour. I just read Lotta's comments below and I think what she said about some of the audience and critics comments tells a lot about why DL videos get a few million views as opposed to tens of millions. Even holding back a bit as they are here. It's just too much for some people. Many people just want something they can just sing along with in the car (not that there's anything wrong with that) and other people just thrill to the deeper dive of a Dirty Loops! Thank goodness for Dirty Loops...and a new album on the way. Hallelujah!

Thank you so much for all these Dirty Loops reaction videos! It really made my week! Even though this particular song / performance was not your favorite of theirs, your comments were, as always, tasteful and respectful. I admire that.😊

This was part of the mid time show of Swedish Melodifestivalen, where the winner goes on to represent Sweden in the Eurovision. Every year an artist is asked to do a cover of the song representing Sweden the year before, and this is what they did that year. Sanna Nielsen was competing for Sweden with the ballad "Undo" the year before. She was also the one hosting Melodifestivalen when Dirty Loops did that cover, and she said she liked it very much. Some music critics didn't though, and if you read the caption of the video on Dirty Loops' channel, they even added a translation of that rather nasty review, as they found it hilarious. Aron said, in a Swedish interview (I think it was either the one Jazzradion did when they released "Rock You", or in a podcast by Skiss) that they were utterly bewildered when they were asked to do this, and left the meetings with the Swedish Melodifestivalen committee more confused than ever. The audience didn't quite know what to make of it, I think, and it was weird seeing it, as they completely blew all the real contestants out of the water, even if they seemed to hold back a bit. Aron also included that review in one of his Instagram posts, when they released the Phoenix EP, and wondered what that critic would think of it (and even tagged her 🤣🤣🤣).

And as for them being so serious on stage, I think this was the show Henrik said he was so nervous before they went on stage, that he threw up. I might have mixed it up with some other show, but I really do think it was in an interview regarding this he said that. It's a huge audience and a big event in Sweden. ☺

@@steveogreact It truly is. How, HOW, can you say that and in good conscience call yourself a music critic??? I mean, even if it's not your cup of tea, there's absolutely no denying that these dudes are off the charts brilliant at what they're doing. That woman lost all my respect (if I ever had any to begin with, I don't really remember) with that review. Sheesh!

Lotta: best comments as usual! I would just like to say that this was the moment when I heard them for the first time and it almost made me fall of the coach. They did “Hit me” at the same show including Jonah’s super difficult runs at the end (which he didn’t on the live video you have looked at). When they had stopped playing I ran to the computer and googled like a maniac and ever since then I’ve been hooked. For me they are just The Best and I’m sure I will be listening to them when my hair turns grey, teeth yellow and I’ve grown hair in my ears.

Nailed the breakdown Steve. My thoughts exactly. I did enjoy some of the kick work Aaron used along with his typical snappy snare fills. Henrik is just a freak though. Effortlessly moving up and down the neck with his accents. I read almost all of the comments below and learned the back story and am curious if the last version had this much chord diversity as DL's version. The chord choices on this version are insane.

Hi @allieandbo, from what I know the original version of this song, sung by Sanna Nilsen, is unusually bland and poor in terms of chords, harmonies and other things. Made it big tho in all the competitions and festivals and was a real hit with many people, not the least because of Sanna’s voice and delivery. Check out the original version in some of the other comments here.
Dirty Loops come and put that tune well and truly through the wringer 🔥🤣🔥

    Booping 👍.
Prime time, commercial tv. Very tasteful, but maybe not as loopified as other covers they've made. I guess it would fry one to many Swedish brains in the mainstream audience.
I'm especially impressed with Jonah's vocals in this one. The agility and ability to perform such good quality vocals live are impressing.
Thanks, Steve. I love to listen to DL through you

One of the most amazing songs ever arranged and then performed. Pure magic for the afterworld.(And performed live, which is totally unique, when “everybody” has lost their centre of position.)

It was jarring to see Dirty Loops performing in such a 'Vegas-y' manner (I cannot stand dancers and/or lasers!). This tune's melody was odd and seemed strained; and even though the musicianship was stellar as always, it just didn't do it for me. I can't believe that I am saying that about a DL song because I adore everything they do. All that being said, I did enjoy your reaction to this one, and thank you for dedicating a week to Dirty Loops on your channel.

    • @lottawiklund8606
      @lottawiklund8606 Год назад +3

The lasers and dancers were the same as with the performance of the original (by Sanna Nielsen), at the Melodifestivalen and Eurovision contest the year before, and I don't think they had much say in that part of the show, to be honest. As you said, it's really not their thing, and I have a hard time thinking that's something they would have added voluntarily. They were asked to write and perform a cover of the winner of the year before, and the rest was most likely orchestrated by the Melodifestivalen committee. ☺

Listening to the original version of this song, a creation by a Dutch artist (?) in gacha video game and anime style, as well as listening to the first winning entry of this song in the Swedish Melodifestivalen, one can begin to appreciate what Dirty Loops again have done here, and how twisted and tongue-in-cheek their version is. Here’s the link to the original:

@@gudagaava of course, the anime version is a cover of the original song which Sanna Nilsen sang (written by Kempe, Krueger and K-One). I never doubted that but it comes across very differently in my comment - thanks for pointing it out.

I suggest taking a look at what is covered, and you might agree that they still managed to make quite a dramatic contrast to the original, even if not reaching the usual level of complexity: ruclips.net/video/5PQJI-3LW-8/видео.html
