omg you saved my life with the tip of using the colorless blender to help wipe up marks from other markers!! i was having such a hard time cleaning some the other day lol and i just tested it with some i missed... this is life changing lol ty!!
You're very welcome! I'm thrilled to have shared something that made a little difference for you. If you have any more questions or need more tips, feel free to ask anytime.
Imma draw some cottage core; 'proceeds to draw mermaid' I can so relate. My favourite parts: The tail of the mermaid: OMG that is so beautiful! I have to say I love the wonky trees in the middle one but I also have beef with green. It's like Dr pepper, some love it, some hate it 🤷♀ Third one is the shadows, I love how you make them nowadays, it's like evening sun
On costuming: a fitted garment, or fitted part of a garment, that covers the torso between the shoulders and the waist or hips is generally called a bodice. If it has bits going over the shoulders -- more than cords or spaghetti straps but not necessarily really *wide* -- you can also call it a vest. A garment meant for support, generally with boning vertically and/or on a diagonal but still mostly vertical, and often with hooks of some sort up the front and lacing down the back, is called a corset. A corset can stop just under the breasts, or cover the breasts. It might or might not have shoulder straps. The sturdy, fitted construction, with boning, and the fastenings are the defining characteristics of a corset. [Contrary to popular belief, the primary purpose of a corset, historically, was to support the back and the (often heavy) garments worn over the corset, rather than to squeeze inches off your waist. A properly fitted corset doesn't take more than two inches off your waist, and not necessarily even that. Re: supporting heavier garments, in the days before zippers and such, skirts were often tied on. A heavy skirt required a *tight* tie, and that tight tie on unsupported skin could get painful after a few hours. A corset provided a sturdy foundation over which you could tie stuff on as tight as you wanted without feeling like your skirts were cutting you in half six hours later. And for working women, a corset functioned as back support; I used to have a friend who did Civil War re-enactment, and the one day she didn't bother wearing her corset with her costume while camping out at an event, she found that chores like hauling armloads of firewood and fetching heavy pails of water and slinging cast iron pans on and off the cooking fire *hurt.* Back support, baby!] Anyway, more recently, there've been garments sold that look kind of like corsets -- fitted, often a pointed front, usually with hooks OR lacing but rarely both, but no boning -- called bustiers. I'd never heard of a bustier before like twenty or so years ago, so if you're going for something historical-ish, I'm not sure that'd work. If you're doing fantasy, though, you can use them if you want and not care if they're historical. :) Looking at your cottagecore girl, I'm not sure if the sleeves are meant to be attached to the bodice, or if she's wearing a thigh-length shirt with a bustier sort of thing over it, so the sleeves show on top and the bottom of the shirt forms a miniskirt. You can always call that general kind of garment a bodice, though, and that'll work.
Thank you for sharing such detailed insights, angiepen! I appreciate your comprehensive explanation of the different types of garments. It's fascinating to learn about the historical context and the practical purposes they served. Your expertise adds depth to the understanding of costume design. As for the cottagecore girl's attire, I aimed for a whimsical blend, but I can see how the interpretation might vary. Thank you again!
You should try and make your own sketchbooks. Its a bit difficult at first, but you can make sure that the binding is super secure and you can get the exact paper you want. I really love the Canson paper, but they don't make them in Moleskine-type sketchbooks so I made my own :3 Check out sealemon's tutorials shes amazing! Love your art you always inspire me want to use my markers more!
The new Ariel isn't as brown, witnessing my first truly brown mermaid! I don't care as much for I like this style and colors. Great contrasting and complimenting colors. Not bad for a first-time background design 🤗❤️👍🏽💯
I kinda liked the contrast between the mountains and the girl and the last one had some cottage vibes with that big bow. What sketchbook is it? Do I know what to avoid, lol,
Your art is so beautiful. I think you did a fantastic job with the background and making it cohesive with your figure. I am a big lurker, but I love your channel.
Thank you so much, Danielle! I really appreciate your kind words and support. I'm happy to hear that you're a fan of the channel, your encouragement means a lot to me!
Your drawings are so cute the mermaid is gorgeous i want to see more mermaids in your style 🫶🏻🤎🤎+ you ate the background with Layla (hope I wrote her name correctly ) it’s really beautiful fr try to draw more backgrounds I’m sure you will do a great work 🤎🤎✨
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the mermaid drawing, and I appreciate your feedback! Her name is actually Lila, but no worries, it's a common mistake. 😊 I'm glad that you liked the background! I'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind and work on incorporating more backgrounds into my future drawings. Stay tuned for more mermaids and other creations in my style!
You should definitely draw more mermaids. Mermay is coming up. Something cool that you could do is taking some of your favorite outfits or characters from previous drawings and turning them into mermaids.
