Thank you for this video. Wow I have had the exact same flaker for over 6 years and have only flaked Oat Groats. I had seen all sorts of info out there that one had to slightly hydrate all grains, but oatmeal, overnight. I saw your marvelous flaking and immediately flaked some Kamut and Soft White Wheat berries with my Ankarsrum creating absolutely perfect flakes. I always wanted to flake other grains but did not want to take the extra effort of the overnight hydration. Thanks again!

Thank you for sharing ... I will be getting the Ankarscrum. Knowing that the machine is capable of so much more with the attachments, is not only exciting, but more valuable.

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I've never before seen the flaking of different grains and may have to reconsider purchase of a flaker. Thank you!

Robyn, Sue Becker uses one of the grater drums that comes with the attachment to grate her frozen butter when making her pie crust dough. I think that Sue also uses one of the grater drums that comes with the attachment also for grating mozerella when making herb cheese dough balls to bake. There will most likely be other things that you will find them useful for like grating apples and carrots. I would love for you to do a video on the crispy hash browns that you mentioned making today. Love your sweet happy personality and so glad that I found your lovely teaching videos. I live in driving distance to the Beckers store. Love learning from Sue for the last year and a half. Wish that I had learned about her and the knowledge that she teaches years ago. It’s been a blessing my family. For the cheese they sticky you could try getting it colder or freezing it before shredding it and that should help it not be as sticky. Also, the lid to the metal round bowl fits perfectly under the attachments to catch the food.

Thank you for all the great advice!! I had the cheese on the counter for awhile, I bet it was too warm! I need to experiment with the other grater drums, thank you! I'd be happy to show the hash browns!

@@realfoodgoodfood Robyn, I forgot to tell you something else that you can use the grater drums that came with the attachment. I think I used the smaller of the two drums when I did this but you can chop nuts with them The fastest, most uniform and easiest way to chop nuts I have ever found. I used the smaller one for cookies but you could also use the bigger one for a bigger chop. Try it you will love using them just as much as you love the smaller ones.

Yay! Thanks for doing this!! Looking forward to that pasta video🩷
I was watching another Ank video and that person showed how the white top that covers the bowls fits perfectly under the shredder or flaker to catch whatever you are shredding/flaking…I thought that was cool!

Thank you, this was a great demonstration of the flaker and shredder attachments. I have a flaker, but have been worried about using it, but you've inspired me.
A couple of questions, if you don't mind?
    1) I was told that to use the flaker, the grains need to be shaken in a jar with a little water, then let sit overnight so they flake rather than shatter. Is that what you do?
    2) You mentioned putting flaked grains on green beans before serving, which sounds delicious. However, I've always heard that you shouldn't consume raw grains because they could give you salmonella . So that's not true.
Again, thank you for the great info, I may try the vanilla made with spiced rum, too.

I just put my grains right on through, I don't have any issues with it. Maybe the way you mentioned works better with certain grains? But I've never done it, I go for simple and fast. I have eaten raw grains for years and have never had any stomach problems with it, my girls even take some of whatever I'm milling and eat them. It's kind of funny- my kids walk by and take a handful of grain 😂 never thought I'd say that!

Thank you so much for this video! A flaker is on my list of things to buy -- after I save up for it! I own a Bosch mixer, but struggled with the Ank or Bosch decision for a couple weeks, so I was glad to see what I'm missing out on! *L*😂 In reality, your video did confirm my decision to go with a Bosch, and I'm quite happy with it. I have the shredding accessories for it, and I do like that the Bosch shreds right into the Bosch mixing bowl. But, to each his own! I'm certainly not trying to talk anyone out of being unhappy if they already have an Ank 😀. I think they are both fabulous machines.
I appreciate you showing the flakes of the different grains. Do you use the flaked grains raw in soups??? OR must they be cooked first before putting in soups? And I assume they can just be kneaded into bread dough raw-flaked? I don't know that Bosch has a flaker attachment (must research that), and I'm fighting with myself about yet another appliance to keep on the counter or get out/put away. But, I sure am wanting a flaker. 😅
Thanks again! You're doing a great job (as is your videographer)!

I went back and forth on a Bosch or an Ank too. They are both wonderful! You can put raw flakes into anything. Right after I finished filming my husband ate the oat and barley flakes right from the bowl!😂. They are a great dry snack, I also throw them in yogurt and smoothies raw. And you're right, just kneed the raw flakes into any dough! I value counter space too! I'm happy I have a little attachment basket I can hide away. Lol

I went to the only store near me, which is 2 hours away, to purchase them. I Love to touch things and see them before I buy them. I had to go on the Ankarsrum website to find a retailer that sold their products. I know Breadbeckers sells all their attachments. I wouldn't buy from a third party site like Amazon, Target, eBay because you forfeit the warranty on the attachment. Ank is very serious about making sure all of their products are sold above board and not damaged. Try their website, there might be a retailer close to you, then you can see all of the attachments and play lol 😁

Can you post a recipe for the homemade vanilla? Thank you! 🙏🏻

    • @realfoodgoodfood
      @realfoodgoodfood  2 месяца назад

      Sure. It is so simple.
      -10 vanilla pods (or beans)
-In 1.75 liter of cheap rum or vodka
-Let marinate for 6 months for best results but can be 3.
-Give a light swish or turn the bottle upsidedown a couple of times every few days.
I think rum makes for a much more flavorful vanilla but vodka is traditional.

    • @realfoodgoodfood

I'm so sorry it took me this long to respond! There are two cones that look like cheese graters, a finer one and normal size one. I used one of those, I think the finer one.
