Your grandad is a legend. Ive owned a 303 and they are not a light rifle. Do you any juggling with one is impressive.
A lee Enfield I assume? Props to your granddad
Your grandfather sounds awesome..
Right and the Marines at that time were sporting M14's which weighed a tad over the 303, both weapons were not light. However the efficacy of both the British 303 & the American M14 were so powerful and accurate, that most soldiers never complained all that much about lugging them around battlefields. Love the short bud!!
However I can tell you from my own experiences in the middle east, that lugging around a .50 cal sniper rifle on top of battle rattle, my .45, and my M4A1 with 7 assault rifle mags, 4 handgun mags, and several types of .50 rounds. My favorite of which were the A.P.I. rounds. I liked to think of them as a little bit of HELL packaged for a great delivery system. Can take out light to medium tanks with 1 or 2 well placed shots down range. Eventually even heavy tanks won't be able to shrug it off...
I am always in awe when I watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Solemn. Professional. Respectful.

Our district takes middle schoolers to Washington DC every spring. When I was younger and went it was DRILLED into us that we MUST be respectful in DC and anywhere we went. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was even more so. We had a small hiccup when we were there for the changing of the guard. A friend of mine was standing by me and a bird POOPED on him!! Do you know how difficult it was for 9th graders (we were still in junior high then) not too lose it when something like that happens?
Also when we went we were not allowed to wear anything with logos or words on it.

It’s not just the tomb that is any honor guard inspection. It’s an awesome thing to see and to see the little bits of flair that individual soldiers put into it as a show of strength, pride, etc. is one of the best things about this that I love seeing! Obviously there is a certain way it’s preformed to drill properly but there’s subtle differences that I can see (others that didn’t serve probably can’t see them) that make each individual ceremony unique! It’s similar to the way you can add to cadences in some units as long as you sound off and it sounds good when you’re doing it (it helps if you’re not the only one doing it but you can still get away with it if you are loud enough and it sounds good)
I love the tomb of the unknown soldier ritual. It's an awesome thing to watch.

That is straight muscle memory. Years of doing the same movements again and again. He has perfected the man who has practiced a kick 10,000 times. It is a true pleasure to see someone who has perfected a skill perform it.
That's not what muscle memory is.
Muscle memory is remembering the shape it was through both repetitive isometric and isotonic exercises. It actually goes away after about 5-7 yrs if you don't repeat it.
His regular memory is what is reminding him of his movements but his muscle memory is why he isn't dropping the rifle. The fact he can catch it but he's clearly still in shape so his muscle memory is in tact. But his minds memory is what completed this task.
Interesting fact: if you work out properly for many years and stop for about 6-12 months. Go off diet etc you can go back and it would only take about 1-2 months of your same training program to get back to where you where. Even if you cause yourself entropy.

Congratulações forças armadas e suas excelências
Our tomb guards are sick
Retired Army veteran here, there is something about precision and discipline that gets my blood flowing. Thank you for posting this. It makes me want to be 18 again so I can do it again!
@Osteo Striga then be one.
I'm going, "Dnc the funk outta that rifle bro!"
I seriously cant fathom how someone can be so precise and memorize that whole thing. It makes me anxious just imagining being in their spot. These peoples genes are something else.
They’re humans…relax
@Rusiate Vuetibau no disrespect intended, but if you've never served, then you can't really understand. I have no issue with individuals who choose not to serve, it's not for everyone.
The way he snatched it from her is so funny she said "oh, I like that"
